I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 75: How to Accidentally Rewrite Your Entire Identity
Well, well, well. Who would have thought Roxanna could actually come up with such a convincing story?
[No, Host. Your story sounds like one of those cheap, overly–dramatic soap operas,] the system commented dryly. [But luckily, the beastkins have never watched any of that trash.]
Roxanna frowned a little, feeling slightly offended. But in the end, she only let out a sigh. Honestly, the real reason they believed her so quickly was probably because strange things were already normal in this world.
"We really never knew he had another daughter!"
"YEAH! AND WE WERE THE ONES WHO SUFFERED BECAUSE OF THAT EVIL ONE!"
"But if you’re not the Roxanna we knew... then what’s your real name?"
Before Roxanna could answer, Zeir calmly spoke first. "I guess Loba didn’t want to call the wrong daughter one day, so he gave them both the same name—Roxanna."
That simple statement only made the warriors even angrier. Even Lilo, the fat cat in Roxanna’s arms, began hissing loudly, as if he, too, wanted to tear Loba apart.
Ah. If she had known they would accept such a story this easily, Roxanna would’ve used it from the very beginning.
"Lea—Impostor Leader? No, that sounds weird. Let’s just keep calling you Leader!" one warrior said firmly. "Anyway, we need to tell everyone in the settlement that you’re a different person now!"
"Yes! Right now people still think you’re a mimic. They haven’t had any problems with you lately, but... it’s dangerous to let them keep thinking you’re a demon mimic."
"True! True! True! Your behavior changed way too drastically! If you don’t want people to be suspicious of you, you should have at least tortured one of your husbands the moment you arrived!"
Zeir immediately glared at the warrior, making him jump in fear. He quickly tried to correct himself. "I—I mean... if your behavior hadn’t changed so drastically, people wouldn’t have become suspicious."
Roxanna pressed her lips together and lowered her head, staring at the ground. "That’s true. Even my husbands said that to me," she replied softly, adding a tiny bit of extra lie. "But I’ve been abused ever since I was little. The last thing I want is to become an abuser too. That’s why—"
She lifted her head again so she could face them, but what she saw instead was a group of large, muscular warrior men crying. Their tears streamed down like rivers with no dam to stop them.
Skiv was even worse. He sniffled loudly as tears poured down his face, realizing that he had once shouted terrible things at the wrong person.
"Leader, I’m so sorry!" Skiv cried between sobs. "I was so mean to you!"
"How dare that old man abuse you?!" one of the warriors shouted. "He spoiled his evil daughter, yet he chose to mistreat his good one! How is that fair at all?!"
Roxanna did feel a little guilty for throwing Loba under the wagon like that, but in the end, he still had to take responsibility for everything the evil Roxanna had done to these poor beastkins.
He had allowed the evil Roxanna to hurt so many people. He watched it happen, again and again, and still did nothing. He never even admitted that what she did was wrong.
So even if he never laid a hand on these people himself, he was still just as bad as his daughter.
"It’s alright, really. Calm down," Roxanna said gently, trying to soothe them. But their loud voices had already drawn the attention of the settlement. One by one, people stepped out of their huts.
"Hey, what’s going on over there? Why are they crying like little kids?"
"Oh no... don’t tell me our real leader came back and started bullying her husbands and the warriors again!"
"Damn it! I knew these peaceful days were too good to be true!"
"I thought the mimic had gotten rid of the real one!"
Roxanna twitched the corner of her eye. People were openly calling her a demon mimic now. Strangely enough, it seemed like they actually preferred the mimic over the real Roxanna.
Still, if they believed she was a mimic, some of them might try to run away, or even kill her, thinking their ties to the Vixelle family were already broken.
So yes, she really did need to explain everything tonight, thanks to these weeping warriors.
[Alright... I guess I should prepare myself to shout for a while.]
There were a lot of people here, probably around four hundred. Roxanna didn’t even know the exact number, since Loba and the evil Roxanna had never bothered to count properly.
"How about we just talk to the important people first?" Zeir whispered near her ear. "I can ask Calen and Azul to gather them. Once they understand, they can pass the news to everyone else."
In other words, Roxanna wouldn’t need to shout at four hundred people or explain everything one by one.
Even in another world, gossip this hot would still spread as fast as lightning.
"Alright, that sounds good," Roxanna said to Zeir. "Let’s do that."
Zeir was about to go find Azul and Calen, but both of them had already rushed over after hearing the noise.
"What’s wrong? What happened?" Azul reached Roxanna first. He gently turned her body, and checked her from head to toe. "Did someone hurt you? You... you’re still our Roxanna, right?"
For a moment, Azul was terrified that their kind Roxanna’s soul had been shoved out—and that the evil one had returned—because along the way, everyone kept shouting that the real Roxanna was back and bullying the warriors again.
"I’m still your Roxanna," she said softly, using the same gentle tone she always used, the tone that proved she wasn’t the one who once wanted to throw him into the muddy lake.
"That’s good. That’s good." Azul let out a breath of relief and hugged her tightly, holding her as if he was afraid she might vanish. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
When Calen finally reached them, Zeir said, "Let’s gather everyone we need to talk to. Azul, Calen, please bring one representative from each hut."
