I Can Extract Divine Power-Chapter 158 - 108: Corpse Driver, Incident
I’m short. Really, really short!
The Quality Transformation Primordial Array-Breaking Technique had used up one wisp of Evil Qi, and now he only had four left.
If he wanted to undergo a second quality transformation, he would need a full ten wisps.
And so, Shen Bai found himself in a bind—he was out of Evil Qi.
’Other people’s bottleneck is not knowing how to break through, but mine is just a lack of Evil Qi. What a headache.’
After thinking for a moment, Shen Bai looked out the window at the bright day, stretched, and decided not to dwell on it for now.
It was time for Dianmao, so Shen Bai didn’t waste any time. He turned and left.
’He had a problem, but he couldn’t let it disrupt his daily routine.’
He was very self-disciplined.
After leaving his home, Shen Bai grabbed breakfast at a stall and then headed for the Observatory.
...
Upon arriving at the Observatory, he followed his usual routine: Dianmao in the registration room, which involved some good-natured back-and-forth with Landlord Long.
Instead of heading to the Ding Thirty-Second Division, Shen Bai went to Elder Mu’s resource room.
At that moment, Elder Mu was dozing in his room.
Ever since Shen Bai had gotten to know him, Elder Mu always seemed to be sleeping in his room. It was rare to see him looking alert.
As if hearing Shen Bai’s footsteps, Elder Mu looked up and stretched. A sharp glint, invisible to the ordinary eye, flashed in his gaze.
"You brat, you’ve gotten stronger again," Elder Mu said, surprised. "It’s like you’re taking some kind of miracle pill."
Shen Bai chuckled. "If I really had some Spiritual Medicine, I’m afraid every Cultivator in the world would be lining up at my door for their share of Miraculous Elixirs."
Elder Mu shrugged. He just teased him a bit about his vague answer and didn’t take it seriously. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
In fact, Elder Mu found it perfectly normal for someone to have secrets.
For someone so young and powerful, it would be stranger if he *didn’t* have any secrets.
Elder Mu poured Shen Bai a cup of tea. After Shen Bai took a sip, he asked, "Here today to spend another whole day at the Martial Arts Arena?"
Everyone at the Observatory knew about Shen Bai and the Martial Arts Arena.
They all knew he was obsessed with spending his days there.
And they admired him for it.
How could you not admire someone who was both talented and hardworking?
Shen Bai nodded. "There haven’t been many missions lately, so all I can do is focus on my Cultivation Technique. There’s not much else to do."
Elder Mu chuckled. "Most members can’t wait for fewer missions and a bit of downtime. You’re the only one, you brat, who comes by every other day asking me why no missions have been assigned."
"It is strange, now that you mention it," Shen Bai said, curious. "Ever since I came to Fenglin State, the number of missions has actually dropped. I’m not sure what’s going on."
Elder Mu poured himself some tea, took a drink, and smacked his lips. "Fewer missions is actually a good thing for the common folk."
Shen Bai mulled over Elder Mu’s words and nodded in deep agreement. "That’s very true."
Perhaps other departments measure their success by the number of missions they complete.
But for the Observatory, the fewer missions, the better.
"But the current situation is anything but normal." Elder Mu set down his cup, a complex look in his eyes. "The dynasty is in turmoil, the Dukes are on the rise. I hear His Majesty has been swamped with all sorts of matters, especially concerning that one in the north. He seems to have treasonous intentions, but we can’t find any concrete evidence."
Shen Bai had been visiting Elder Mu frequently of late, so he had learned a great deal about the Great Zhou Country.
He already knew that the Great Zhou Country was in a period of upheaval, but most of the Dukes had yet to reveal any concrete rebellious intentions. They were simply biding their time.
The one in the north, however, was a different story.
A Marquis Fengjiang was stationed in a Capital City in the north.
The title of Marquis Fengjiang had existed since the founding of the Great Zhou Country. The current Marquis ruled over a Capital City, possessed unfathomable power, and came from an immensely wealthy and influential family.
In such turbulent times, every Duke had their own agenda.
’Lying low and not making a move is the smart play,’ Shen Bai thought.
But he hadn’t expected that the Marquis Fengjiang of the north would actually start making moves.
"What kind of moves? Don’t tell me he’s actually preparing to raise an army and rebel?" Shen Bai asked.
’If that were the case,’ he thought, ’it would be an incredibly foolish thing to do.’
’Of course, everyone thinks differently. That was just his opinion.’
Elder Mu shook his head. "Who can say for sure? I’ve only heard rumors, just something to talk about over tea. But the Observatory over there is having a real headache because of it."
Shen Bai placed his empty cup before Elder Mu, then picked up the teapot to pour himself a fresh cup, watching the steam rise. "Elder Mu, what about Zhou Qing, the man I asked you to find information on?"
Ever since he and Zhou Qing had parted ways, Zhou Qing had joined the army. Shen Bai hadn’t heard from him since, so he’d asked Elder Mu to look into it.
Elder Mu smiled. "That brother of yours has real guts. He’s performed one meritorious deed after another since joining the army. It seems he’s already reached the Three Treasures Realm. It’s just that the army is very strict, and he’s incredibly busy, which is probably why you haven’t exchanged any letters."
"I’ve already had someone take your letter to him. I expect he’ll write back soon."
"Then I must thank you, Elder Mu," Shen Bai said, cupping his hands in a salute.
Having chatted about what he needed to and asked what he wanted to know, he was about to head back to the Martial Arts Arena to grind his Skill Level.
But just then, the sound of light footsteps rang out.
Shen Bai turned his head to see Qin Shuang peeking into the room, slowly approaching.
"Shen Bai! I finally found you! A mission’s come in. We have to go, quickly!"
The moment she entered, Qin Shuang spotted Shen Bai and rushed over, grabbing his arm.
Qin Shuang’s Bing Division had been getting quite a few missions recently.
