I Can See Health Bars in Real Life-Chapter 369 - 23: What Was It All For? (Part 2)
The example in the Nioh World often relies on the power of a large amount of Spirit Stones, turning ordinary humans into Great Demons in an instant. However, Gu Mo relies on his own power and the Four Souls Jade Fragment... so naturally, the demonized form isn’t impossible to undo. As long as he cannot continue to pay the enormous costs, all perpetually activated abilities must cease.
But once most instances enter a demonized state, they have either lost their mind due to some conspiracy or have become completely deranged, failing to make clear-thinking and rational choices from their own true will. Hence, this process tends to appear irreversible.
Until it’s forcibly interrupted by external forces—
When the end of life is reached, unable to maintain the fusion with the Guardian Spirit, the demonization will naturally unravel.
However, Gu Mo himself has not reached that point, and the Nine-tailed will not pull him into the abyss, but simply choose to support, safeguard his spiritual existence—otherwise, it wouldn’t be a Guardian Spirit, but a demon possession. Often, it is the host dragging the Guardian Spirit into madness together, not the Guardian Spirit influencing the host to become evil.
And under such circumstances, the only thing that could allure him is the shards of the Four Souls Jade, but fortunately, he has only two shards in his hand. They can rival a massive amount of Spirit Stones for complete demonization, yet they aren’t sufficient to resist the evil side effects brought by the Jade, especially since his highest attribute is Spirit. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
So he can consciously break free from demonization... even if the state is locked, it doesn’t matter. Given his previous similar experience, he can directly remove the Four Souls Jade from the "equipment" state through the system panel, forcibly severing the channel of Demonic Power transmission, and forcefully exiting this state.
However, complete demonization doesn’t signify the ultimate form, simply put, it’s like the difference between Sesshomaru and his father. Sesshomaru is indeed a complete demon, but even revealing his original form and transforming into the gigantic demon dog, his size is far inferior to that of his father, who is much larger than a kilometer-tall mountain.
And Gu Mo’s first display of the Nine-tailed form is merely the culmination of his own power and the two shards, along with the leverage of the Power of the Guardian Spirit. If he had more shards, or rather the complete Four Souls Jade... Kaguya probably wouldn’t even understand what’s happening before she’s simply gone.
The restored Gu Mo looked down at his own palm, calmly answering Himura Kagome’s question:
"It’s not because of us, but rather a demon that was sealed five hundred years ago and happened to unseal today, in this era... we initially intended to stop her."
"So it was you after all..."
Himura Kagome’s tone was inexplicable, although she had her suspicions before, because that Demon Qi was somewhat familiar, and seeing Kikyo naturally reminded her of a certain malevolent presence.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down: "What kind of demon is it?"
"Kaguya... Hmm, it’s hard to explain to you. Go back and ask that lecherous mage; it’s a powerful demon sealed by his grandfather, sealed until this era to awaken." Gu Mo replied frankly, "When we came over, we just happened to encounter her revival, so naturally, we had to make a move to stop her."
"But... but why is the outside world in such disarray? And why did you happen to encounter it at the same time? What was your reason for coming to this era?"
Himura Kagome remained strongly skeptical; the other’s explanation seemed legitimate, but to her, there were many doubts, the simplest being why these two would come to her era for no reason, and coincidentally encounter such an event?
This kind of "coincidence"... doesn’t it seem too deliberate?
"Isn’t this very normal? We had our concerns, but the other side wasn’t afraid at all and didn’t cooperate with us, so naturally, things escalated..." Gu Mo shrugged his shoulders, "And Tokyo Bay is just nearby, so the military base’s fighter jets didn’t take long to arrive, and they directly bombed the place. We couldn’t do anything about that either."
He wasn’t that heartless; even if he only cared about the priestess’s views, he naturally needed to show restraint. Even after complete demonization, he didn’t cause rampant destruction... However, the giant Demon Fox he transformed into did little damage while moving and battling in the city, but the US Army arrived and started bombing directly, absolutely monstrous in their might.
But thinking about it, it made sense; they didn’t even consider their own people’s lives as lives, experimenting with viruses on humans wasn’t limited to movies, so how could we expect them to value the human rights of another country?
"As for why we came to this era... it was for this, I just wanted to come for this sword."
He explained leisurely; this was his original intention, and why they coincidentally encountered Kaguya’s event afterwards was indeed an accident... perhaps it was the Celestial Mandate at work, like in the original storyline, five hundred years ago Kaguya activated the Time Stop, halting time across the entire land.
Yet the protagonist group was blessed with the Celestial Mandate; they either came from a time outside the current world’s era or carried something not belonging to the current world...
