Chapter 422: Death’s Shop Part 2

"Lightning," Rhys said quietly. "I want lightning."

"Excellent choice!" Death spun on his heel and started walking toward a different section of the shop. "Lightning weapons are some of my bestsellers. Follow me!"

They moved through the impossible space, passing sections dedicated to fire, ice, poison, and elements Rhys couldn’t even identify.

The lightning section crackled with barely contained energy, each weapon radiating power that made his hair stand on end.

Sylph retreated partially back into Rhys, though her tiny voice still whispered from inside him.

’This place makes my wings tingle. Not in a good way.’

"Now," Death said, stopping before a display case filled with various bladed weapons. "Jackie boy mentioned you favor daggers when he dropped off your rather generous budget. Speed and precision over raw power, yes?"

Rhys nodded, surprised that Jack had thought to mention his fighting style.

"Perfect!" Death’s skeletal grin widened as he gestured at the case. "Daggers are excellent for someone with your particular combination of magic. Keep enemies at mid-range with your wind and water, then close in fast with lightning-enhanced strikes when they’re vulnerable."

He pulled a pair of daggers from the rack, each blade seeming to be forged from crystallized lightning. Blue electricity crawled along their edges in mesmerizing patterns.

"Stormfang Daggers," Death announced. "Rare-quality, amplifies lightning magic by 30%, grants minor shock damage on every strike, and they’re perfectly balanced for dual-wielding. Only 12,000 death tokens for the pair!"

Pho barely glanced at them. "He can do better."

"Of course, he can do better! But I’m starting with the affordable options to establish a baseline." Death’s glowing eyes fixed on Rhys with amusement.

"Besides, our young prince here has quite the budget to work with. Quarter million tokens are nothing to sneeze at. Well, if I had a nose to sneeze with."

He set the rare-quality daggers aside and moved deeper into the lightning section, toward cases that were protected by significantly more powerful wards.

"With 250,000 tokens," Death continued, his voice taking on the tone of a merchant who’d found a customer with deep pockets, "we can get you something truly special. Something that will grow with you, adapt to your style, become extensions of your will."

He stopped before a case that Rhys hadn’t noticed earlier, its contents protected by wards so powerful they made reality shimmer around the edges.

"Behold," Death said with theatrical reverence. "Unique-quality weapons. These aren’t just tools, they’re companions."

The case held three sets of daggers, each pair radiating enough power to make Rhys’s wind magic respond involuntarily. Even Sylph emerged slightly, her green aura flickering as she studied the weapons.

The first pair appeared to be forged from captured storm clouds, blue-white lightning frozen mid-strike along their edges. The blades were slightly curved, designed for slashing rather than stabbing.

The second pair looked like they’d been carved from a single piece of crystallized thunder, their edges so sharp they seemed to cut the air itself just by existing.

Straight blades, perfectly symmetrical, built for precision strikes.

The third pair was simpler in appearance but somehow more intimidating.

Blades of pure black metal with edges that crackled with purple electricity. Sleek, deadly, and radiating an aura of controlled violence.

"Tempest’s Edge," Death said, pointing to the storm cloud daggers. "Grants the ability to summon localized lightning strikes, amplifies lightning magic by 55%, and has a special skill that lets you channel lightning through your wind magic. Creates electrical currents in the air that you can manipulate. 50,000 tokens for the pair."

"Those," Sylph whispered, her voice echoing from inside Rhys. "I can feel the wind essence in them. They would work with both of us."

"Thunder’s Kiss," Death continued, gesturing to the crystallized thunder daggers. "Every strike releases a micro-shockwave that disrupts magical barriers, amplifies lightning magic by 50%, and grants partial immunity to electrical damage. Perfect for fighting mages. 48,000 tokens."

"And these beauties," Death said, his voice dropping to something approaching genuine respect as he indicated the black daggers.

"Void’s Whisper. Unique-quality, but with properties that border on legendary. They don’t just channel lightning. They create void-aspected electricity that can damage things immune to normal lightning. Amplifies lightning magic by 60%, incredibly fast attack speed, and a special skill called Silent Strike that makes your attacks completely soundless. 70,000 tokens, and worth every single one."

Rhys stared at the weapons, his mind overwhelmed by the choices. They were all incredible, each pair representing more power than he’d ever wielded in his life.

His old daggers had been good steel, well-balanced, reliable. These were something else entirely.

"The first pair," Pho said suddenly. "Tempest’s Edge."

Death raised a skeletal eyebrow. "Not Void’s Whisper? Those are clearly the most powerful..."

"The prince needs to learn fundamentals before experimenting with void-aspected magic," Pho interrupted. "Tempest’s Edge synergizes with his wind affinity through that spirit of his, gives him tactical flexibility, and won’t accidentally erase himself if he channels too much power through them."

"Valid points," Death admitted. "Though significantly less exciting than watching him try to wield void lightning and possibly explode."

"I’d rather not explode," Rhys said quickly.

Sylph’s green aura pulsed in agreement from within him. "Definitely no exploding. I live inside you. Your explosion is my explosion."

"Nobody ever wants the fun options," Death sighed. "Fine. Tempest’s Edge it is. 50,000 tokens, and I’ll even throw in a basic maintenance kit so you don’t accidentally damage them in the first week. Lightning-aspected weapons require specific care, you know."

The daggers materialized in his hands, and Rhys immediately felt the difference. Where his old daggers had been simple steel, these weapons were alive with power. Lightning crawled along their edges, responding to his magic, eager to be used.

The weight was perfect. Slightly lighter than his old blades, which would make them faster. The balance was impeccable, designed for someone who fought with speed and precision rather than raw strength.

And more than that. He could feel Sylph’s presence resonating with the weapons.

The wind essence woven into the storm cloud blades recognized her, creating a connection that would let them work together more effectively.

"They feel right," Sylph whispered, her voice carrying satisfaction. "Like they were made for us."

Rhys spun them experimentally, the blades moving through forms he’d practiced thousands of times. The lightning responded to each movement, leaving trails of blue electricity in the air.

"Beautiful technique," Death observed. "You’ve trained extensively with daggers, I see. Good. These will reward that experience. The more skilled you are, the more power they’ll channel."
