I Don't Agree to the Terms-Chapter 1081 - 568: Elf Clan—Survivors Traversing Worlds via Dual-star Celestial Body
"Rest, did you feel anything unusual on the Dual-star recently?"
A pointy-eared elf, fully encased in power armor, wore a hint of confusion on his face. Just now, as he was crossing worlds through his bloodline ability, he sensed something a bit different.
The elf named Rest was relatively tall and looked somewhat puzzled as well: "No, did you notice something, Sim?"
"Just now, it felt like something was watching us, and I fear it's no illusion." The elf named Sim had a grave expression.
Illusion? Deception?
That's simply impossible. The Elf Clan, pursued by what they termed the dual stars of Hunt and Frost, had long since evolved abilities such as keen intuition and transcendent perception, making illusions non-existent.
If an illusion truly did occur, it must indicate a greater issue.
"Where? In the world we arrived at?" Rest also seemed surprised. The world they reached had been corroded by frost, everything frozen within it, and only through their specially designed power armor and their self-evolved extreme cold resistance abilities could they survive in the minus one hundred degree temperature.
In this world, even the stars were frozen, eternal night prevailed.
The reason they came to this world was simple: to gather resources and then bring them back.
"Not here, it was during the transmission, that vague feeling was undoubtedly the gaze of an ancient presence." Sim pondered for a moment before saying.
"But I still have a question: why were you able to sense it?"
"On your last mission, did you attract the attention of this ancient presence in a certain world?"
Rest knew one thing: these kinds of beings wouldn't randomly gaze at Sim. The region inhabited by the Elf Clan was under the radiation of the dual stars, and even ancient presences dared not easily venture there.
The Frost could freeze everything, including worlds.
Yet this was not the most dangerous of the dual stars. At most, the Frost could freeze worlds and civilizations, but those powerful and transcendent beings could still survive.
The real danger was the Hunt, a group of ghost-like hunters, preying on the strong of many worlds, whose souls are forced to join these entities after death.
The leading Hunter King was especially formidable, riding an eight-legged horse with two hound-like soul hunters. Once targeted, their prey has no way to escape, these ancient beings included, or more bluntly, the Ghost Hunters become more excited when confronting these presences.
Hence, after the dual stars have passed, such beings are usually doomed as well.
"No, I did not take any extra actions." Sim recalled and became even more confused.
"Then we can only wait to get back and have the Elder take a look at you." Rest knew Sim must have inadvertently gotten himself into big trouble.
Fortunately, the Elf Clan didn't were concerned about such a big problem.
The Elf Clan within the dual star radiation zone feared no trouble coming their way. Over the long years, they evolved and researched abilities and technologies to resist the dual stars, which didn't mean those ancient presences could do the same. Once they enter the dual-star radiation zone, Destructive Frost and Ghost Hunters are not to be trifled with.
"Alright, we must gather sufficient resources and relevant civilizational data quickly and leave. Although this is the dual-star radiation zone, it is, after all, the fringe area." Sim also wore urgency in his expression.
The radiation zone brought by the dual stars naturally spread outwards gradually from the dual stars themselves.
They could only scavenge in this fringe area, they dared not approach too close to the core area of the dual stars, where the temperature was even lower, the evolved cold resistance could not withstand it, not to mention the existence of Ghost Hunters, once they set foot, they easily become hunting targets.
The two elves advanced in the cold wind, using the high-intelligent radar on their power armor to scan each designated area.
With the existence of power armor, they didn't expend much physical energy, flying at sub-light speed.
The overall difficulty was not very high, if not for the need for special bloodlines in the elves to traverse worlds, they actually had no need to come in person, they could just remotely control machines.
"The civilization of this world has already perished in the cold, it seems to be a halfling civilization, what a pity." Sim sighed.
He felt it was a pity not because of the halfling civilization's extinction, but because the civilization's development was too low, likely also a magic civilization, with low mastery of Magic Power.
In this case, they could only scavenge resources, obtaining civilizational technology was pointless.
"Not so much like halflings, more like goblins, halflings mostly pass on culinary skills, here there are unstable mechanical constructs, which is more goblin style."
"There is, however, a very serious problem, where are the bodies?"
Rest had a grave expression. From the civilization's constructions and artifacts, having traversed so many worlds, they could roughly discern some distinctions, but the absence of bodies puzzled them.
"Could it be that they've mutated into a corpse-eating civilization?" Sim abruptly asked.
A corpse-eating civilization refers to a massive act of depravity following the advent of Destructive Frost due to the scarcity of food.
