I Faked My Death—Now I Have to Tame the Crazy Men I Left Behind-Chapter 30 - 28: His Leg is Crippled
The subordinate had no idea what on earth his boss was thinking.
Out of the blue, he’d called in the middle of the night to have a phone number traced, then immediately followed up by asking for the whereabouts of Silas Grant and Kian Keller.
And he’d insisted on getting the results before dawn.
He originally thought that would be the end of it.
But then at five in the morning, the boss had another one of his crazy impulses and called again. The first words out of his mouth were: "Find me a crew of people who know how to dig up graves."
"???" He thought the exhaustion was making him hear things. "Are you planning to... rob a grave?"
"Is that a problem?"
"It’s a crime, alright. I’m just not sure if there are any artisans with those skills left these days."
"The commission is negotiable. Just get the job done right."
"And the location?"
"Jynsia."
"What?!" It was no wonder he’d raised his voice. Anyone would find that ridiculous.
Grave robbing. In Jynsia.
That wasn’t just illegal; it was practically begging to be arrested.
They’d probably never even make it to their destination. The moment they stepped outside with a Luoyang Shovel, they’d likely be swarmed by a dozen plainclothes officers and taken down with a single move.
The officers would probably remark on how long it’s been since such an easy commendation just landed in their laps.
"What are you thinking about? I’m having them dig up Mia Grant’s grave."
"Oh, oh, so it’s to dig up Miss Grant’s... What?!"
"If you’re sick, go get treatment. I’ll cover it as a work-related injury." Even the boss sounded exasperated.
’I’m the one who should be exasperated, okay?!’
"May I ask why?"
"On what grounds is my fiancée’s grave buried with the Grant Family?" the boss retorted, full of self-righteous confidence.
"Because she’s a member of the Grant Family," he said, unable to stop himself from rolling his eyes over the phone.
"Besides having the Grant surname, what does she have to do with the Grant Family?"
"..."
’Boss, what does this have to do with you?’
’You’re just a fiancé—and an ex-fiancé at that!’
But thinking of his boss’s... delicate mental state, he didn’t dare say those words out loud.
And so, resigned to his fate, he went to find people capable of carrying out such a depraved task.
Unfortunately, people these days had too strong of a moral compass.
At first, some people had called to inquire, but the moment they heard it involved the Grant Family, they immediately hung up.
Who would dare to take that job?!!!
’How many reckless, insane people like his boss could there possibly be in this world?!’
"Forget it." The man waved his hand, deciding not to make things difficult for a mere employee.
The subordinate breathed a sigh of relief. ’His boss was finally being reasonable.’
The man said leisurely, "When I get back to the country, I’ll find some time to go dig it up myself."
The subordinate: "?"
When Mia Grant woke up, it was already afternoon.
A lot had happened while she was asleep.
The System started rattling off information as fast as a machine gun, its voice nearly turning into an electronic beat as it spewed out a rapid-fire summary.
When she heard that Kian Keller had come storming over to fight with Silas Grant, Mia Grant choked on a sip of water. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"He didn’t get hurt, did he?!"
Mia Grant pictured the scene in her mind. HISSS.
’With Kian Keller’s frail constitution, if Silas Grant landed a few punches, he’d probably be seriously injured.’
[Yes.] The System replied. [His leg is badly injured.]
"Was he crippled?!"
Mia Grant’s hand trembled.
Setting down her water glass, her mind flashed with countless scenarios. "Th-Then, did Silas Grant go that far? He won’t go to jail, will he?"
[He won’t.]
"Ah, right, with his background..."
[Silas Grant didn’t injure Kian Keller’s leg.]
"Huh?" Mia Grant froze.
[He left here and was followed by his enemies. The accident happened when their two cars collided. It shouldn’t result in a permanent disability; after all, it’s just a fracture.]
"..."
"Next time, just say everything at once. You’re making me worry for nothing."
[Host, don’t sympathize with the male lead! Remember who forced you to jump into the sea!]
Mia Grant leaned against the headboard and said faintly, "I’m worried about myself."
According to the original novel’s plot, Kian Keller’s leg was also injured later on while competing with the other male leads for the heroine, forcing him to rely on a wheelchair for a time.
To see the golden boy fall from grace was truly a somber thought.
If it weren’t for his male lead halo, he might have ended up with the tragic fate of a lifelong disability.
So, Mia Grant felt that the plot really did have an ability to self-correct at random times, just as the System had said...
She was a little worried about her own fate.
[Host, you still have me!]
Mia Grant opened her eyes. "Oh, right. I almost forgot about you."
’With the System here, what did she have to be afraid of?’
"You’re usually useless when it comes to anything important. I almost forgot you were good for something."
[...Okay, I’ll reflect on my actions.]
Mia Grant pretended she didn’t know about Kian Keller’s visit. When Silas Grant came to see her, he didn’t mention it either.
The man sat on the edge of the bed, leaning down to press his forehead against hers, feeling her temperature up close.
Mia Grant blinked. From this angle, she was reminded of the scene in the car yesterday when he had grabbed her and kissed her.
Thankfully, Silas Grant wasn’t so deranged as to forget she was still a patient. He pulled back slightly and smiled in relief. "The fever’s gone down."
The girl still looked listless, the sickness not yet faded from her. Her watery eyes blinked gently, a silent response to his words.
Her gaze fell to the back of Silas Grant’s hand, where a distinct red mark was visible.
"Brother, how did you get hurt?"
Mia Grant asked, knowing full well what the answer was.
"It’s nothing. I just got scratched by a folder while looking over some documents."
’What a great excuse,’ Mia Grant thought, almost failing to hold back a laugh.
Silas Grant didn’t want to elaborate on the injury. He couldn’t very well admit that he’d been cut by something Kian Keller had thrown at him.
It wasn’t that he minded playing the victim in front of Mia Grant to gain her sympathy. It was just that being injured by Kian Keller sounded somewhat absurd, even foolish.
He switched hands and tucked a stray lock of hair from her temple behind her ear. "I’ve already called you out of school. We’ll keep you under observation for one more day. If you’re better tomorrow, you can go back."
Silas Grant fed her something to eat and waited for her to fall asleep before he left.
The moment he was out the door, Mia Grant opened her eyes.
She had been pretending to be asleep.
It was mainly because she was sick. She didn’t have the energy, nor did she want any direct interaction with Silas Grant.
Taking the opportunity to pull out her phone and reply to a message from Felix Sinclair, she noticed that she seemed to have made a call last night.
Not only that, but the owner of that number had searched for her via her phone number and added her on WeChat at five o’clock this morning...
Mia Grant hesitated for a moment, then accepted the request and sent a message: "You are?"
Several minutes passed with no reply.
Mia Grant tapped on the person’s Moments, but before it could load, she heard the System call out to her:
[Host, the female lead is here.]
The moment she heard it was Serena Grant, Mia Grant was instantly energized. Tossing her phone aside, she sat up. "What is she doing here?"
[The Keller and Grant Families have decided to proceed with the marriage alliance. Serena Grant is worried that delays could cause complications, so she’s here to ask Silas Grant to step in and arrange the engagement banquet for this month.]
’What? That can’t be allowed to happen!’
Without a second thought, Mia Grant threw off her covers and went downstairs.
Downstairs, in the living room.
"Brother, can you go talk to Ethan? Please?"
"Settling this sooner is better for everyone, isn’t it? That way, you can also bring Miss..."
"Miss Grant?" a maid’s voice suddenly cut in.
Serena Grant and Silas Grant looked up in unison.
On the spiral staircase, a girl in milky-white pajamas was rubbing her eyes. "Brother... Huh, do we have a guest?"
