Chapter 44: The Real One (1)

Crash!

The sound of the glass bottle shattering destroyed the silence in the dimly lit room. Schwartz got up, unable to balance himself. The scent of whiskey radiated around him as he barely kept himself straight. His assistant rushed to support him, only to be kicked down.

"DO NOT TOUCH ME!" Schwartz yelled, stepping on the broken glass. "How dare she? That bitch... I turned her into a star and she went to spread her legs for a masked bastard?"

Everything had been fine moments ago, but then images of Cindy and Jack’s intimate encounter appeared on his phone and all hell broke loose. The bartender’s head was split open, his blood mixing with the spilled alcohol on the floor.

The assistant shook his head before gesturing at the guards to dispose of the guy. They didn’t bother checking the man’s vitals and dragged him outside, probably to end him for good.

But the tension didn’t ease inside the room. Schwartz was still furious and throwing things around.

Upon sensing that his boss had no intention of calming down, the assistant ordered everyone to step outside, leaving Schwartz alone with the man huddled in the dark corner.

No one knew who he was, but the man was the only one Schwartz respected, hence everyone respected him too.

"If I knew who that bastard was, I would cut him open and feed his innards to my dogs!" Schwartz growled, pointing at Jack’s photo in his phone. "How dare he touch her face!"

"You’re pathetic."

Finally, the man spoke, silencing Schwartz.

"You’d cut him open?" he scoffed. "You should thank the stars you’re even here. If it hadn’t been for me, your disciplinarians would have taken you in, forcing you to rot in a dungeon."

Schwartz frowned, scratching his head. This was the problem with the guy before him. He had incredible wealth, but Schwartz couldn’t understand what he said half the time.

It was as if the man didn’t belong to their world, and to be honest, Schwartz had no idea who the old man was. He just appeared one day, offering Schwartz everything a man could dream of.

Money, women, and a lot of illegal drugs.

In return, Schwartz did a few odd jobs for the old man, like excavating ancient sites and buying old artifacts. He assumed the old man was a collector, but didn’t dare to confirm it.

Flap!

Before Schwartz knew it, a folder landed on his feet, along with a strange black card he had never seen before. It was eerily similar to the card Fortuna had given to Jack.

He picked the folder first and got sober real quick. Inside was information about Jack. Everything he needed to deal with him was right there.

Schwartz couldn’t help but raise his eyebrow because even after using all his connections, he only found Jack’s name, nothing else. Yet the old man found every single thing about him.

Just who is he...

"Do not waste your time wondering about things beyond your comprehension," the old man commented, sipping his tea. "Do your job well, and that card will be yours."

After saying his piece, the old man got up and left without looking back.

Schwartz stayed behind, clutching the folder before he broke out laughing like a maniac.

The mansion was shrouded in silence, so Jack hurried, thinking he should get into bed before Anna saw him. But to his dismay, his plan had already flopped.

"Did you have fun?"

Anna’s voice echoed in the dark. Only then did Jack register her presence on the sofa. Lights flickered on, showing her lying there. Her long white legs peeked out of the nightgown she had draped over herself.

The sex appeal was high, but Jack wasn’t bothered by it. Instead, he turned towards the gate where Barco and Takeshi stood, their backs turned towards them.

So they did tell her. Well, it’s not a big deal.

Just as Jack was wondering how to answer her, Anna said something that left him confused.

"If you liked burgers so much, you could have told me," she chuckled. "I would’ve told the chefs to prepare it for you. Why visit a burger joint in the middle of the night like this?"

Burger joint?

Jack thought Barco and Takeshi had lied to cover for him, but only for a moment. They weren’t loyal to him. Whatever loyalty they had towards him was because of Anna. There was no way they would lie to her.

Anna was just toying with him. Perhaps it was her way of asserting dominance in their relationship, or maybe she was giving him a way out.

Jack almost wanted to go along with it, but decided against it. He sighed, running his hand through his hair like he was tired.

The experiences of his past life had made him overcautious. That’s why he didn’t want to stir things up too much and live a decent life. It turns out he wasn’t cut out for it. Being timid didn’t suit him, especially when he was used to being assertive.

It was time to set things straight but in a docile manner.

No matter how he thought, Anna wasn’t under his spell yet. She could take drastic actions if he said something he shouldn’t have.

"I didn’t go to any burger joint. I was with Cindy," Jack said. "I wanted to drop her off, and then we got to talking and lost track of time."

Well... it wasn’t the entire truth, but how would she know better? It wasn’t like Barco and Takeshi had slipped inside and saw what they were doing.

"I see," Anna said, smiling before turning to the guards. "You two can go now."

Barco and Takeshi didn’t turn to greet her, they just walked away. As they disappeared, Anna sat up and patted the seat beside her.

"Come sit," she said. "There’s something I want to talk about."

Jack nodded and sat down, planning to raise her affection. But the moment he did, Anna climbed onto his lap, straddling him. Her nightgown got dragged up, revealing her smooth thighs as she wrapped her hands around his shoulders.

"At least you had the decency to not lie," she whispered, nibbling on his ear. "But you weren’t entirely honest." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Jack opened his mouth to speak, but Anna pressed her finger against them. It was her turn to talk, and even he wasn’t allowed to interrupt.

"You said you talked with her," she continued, her lips inching closer to his. "But that wasn’t all you did, did you?"

Jack frowned at her words.

She knows everything.
