Chapter 1: Discovery

Overcoming those difficult times, I was now fully enjoying a rare period of recovery. After the middle school graduation ceremony was over, we went on a short break before starting high school. Realistically, I should have had a part-time job during this break, but that was no longer an option. The group bullying that had occurred not long ago had left me absent from work that day, which led to me being fired from my part-time job. I had been fired from my other job too, due to the bruises all over my body. It felt unreasonable, and I was frustrated, but there was nothing I could do about it.

I thought about doing some muscle training during the break, though deep down, I knew it wouldn't change much. I had so many things weighing on my mind, but at the very least, I had to find a new job. I needed to occupy myself for now, so I decided to clean the house, something I hadn't done in a long while.

I immediately grabbed a rag and a vacuum cleaner and began tidying up the house. Though I often did light cleaning, a thorough cleaning revealed layers of dust and dirt. Grandpa's house was large, and it would be a challenge to clean every room properly without a chance like this. But deep down, I knew the real reason I was cleaning—it was a way to distract myself from everything that had happened.

During a moment of low spirits, I went to the washbasin to replace the water in the bucket. That's when I noticed something I hadn't expected—a reflection of my face in the mirror. Thin, small eyes. A pig-like nose with tiny nostrils. Rounded cheeks and a face swollen with acne and freckles. My lips were thick, and my crooked teeth were hidden by them. My hair, too thin, made me feel as though I was prematurely balding. I didn't look like my parents or the twins. This was my face. As I stared at it, all the accumulated resentment and pain inside me overflowed.

I screamed in frustration and punched the mirror over and over again, trying to erase the image in front of me. I kept hitting it until my fist bled. Breathing heavily, I grabbed a bucket and smashed it into the mirror, shattering it completely. As the mirror cracked and the pieces fell to the floor, mixing with my blood, I felt a momentary sense of calm—but the mental fog persisted.

No matter how much I screamed, my situation wouldn't change.

I thought about plastic surgery, but even that felt like a distant dream. With no money and barely able to scrape by with my living expenses, it seemed impossible. I sank deeper into the sorrow of my reality. What did I even want to be? I couldn't picture a future for myself. I hadn't even thought about it—everything seemed hopeless.

I wanted to scream. "Fuck!"

In my frustration, I hit the wall with all my strength. And then, something strange happened.

"Huh?" I muttered as the wall shifted. It rotated like a hidden door in a ninja mansion, revealing a secret room I had never seen before.

"What is this...?"

I had lived in my grandpa's house for a long time, and yet I had no idea this room existed. It was like I had stumbled upon something forbidden, hidden away for years.

"Grandpa..." I whispered as I cautiously stepped into the room.

It turned out this was a secret place where my grandpa stored all the souvenirs and items he had collected from his travels around the world. He had always been a wanderer, constantly traveling and bringing back unique things, but I never knew where he had kept them all. It was astonishing to realize that all of these treasures had been hidden in this one secret room.

As I looked around, marveling at the items, I began to feel something strange. A feeling of... calling? It was an odd sensation, like something was pulling me deeper into the room. I couldn't explain it, but it was as though something wanted me to explore.

Among the objects, I found a variety of strange and fascinating things. A kijin mask, a massive mannequin that was larger than me, some strange red cubes, and floating stones surrounding a pedestal. There was even a sarcophagus that looked like it belonged to an ancient Egyptian pharaoh.

But then my eyes were drawn to one particular object—something at the very back of the room. A door. It was strange, almost out of place. Carved with an intricate owl in the center and trees on the edges, it seemed like it didn't belong here.

"Did Grandpa bring this back too?" I muttered under my breath.

This door was different from the rest of the items in the room. There was an air of mystery about it. I couldn't ignore the strange feeling, as if the door itself was calling me. My hands trembled as I reached for the doorknob, unsure of what I might find behind it. With a deep breath, I twisted the knob and opened the door.

"Wha—?" I gasped as I stepped through.

Beyond the door was an unfamiliar room, unlike anything I had ever seen. It looked like the inside of a log house, with a wooden table and chairs, and piles of weapons like swords and axes scattered around. It felt so surreal, as if I had stepped into another world entirely.

"Huh? What the hell is this place?" I muttered, trying to comprehend the bizarre situation.

Then, as if to answer my confusion, a translucent board appeared in front of me, displaying messages I couldn't quite believe.

[Appraisal]: Skills to appraise various things.

[Endurance]: You have acquired great resistance to abnormal states, mental interference, or physical stress.

"...What is this?" I whispered in disbelief. This wasn't just some random room—it was connected to something far beyond my understanding.

I soon realized that the door was more than just a portal to an unknown room—it was a gateway to an entirely different world. The message displayed more features:

[Money Conversion]: Everything can be converted into money.

[Transfer]: The door can be summoned to your current location at any time.

[Entry Restriction]: Only those specified by the owner can pass through the door.

It was clear now: this door wasn't just any ordinary object. It was part of something far larger and more powerful than I could comprehend.

This wasn't just a secret room in my grandpa's house—it was a doorway to another world. A world full of mysteries, power, and unimaginable possibilities. I couldn't help but feel both excited and terrified at the same time.

With a deep breath, I read the final message that appeared in front of me.
