I Found a Door to the Elven Realm-Chapter 90: Kobold Talks Elvish in a Group Meeting
Emily was a bit late to see a kobold hiding behind Eren but she was the first to react and move for the Kobold after realizing what it was.
She beat wolves and everyone else in speed departmant..
While Eren was thinking about how he was suppose to bed with different women from the village, and all of them beautiful sexy elf woman like superstars...kobold almost died from horror without he realized what was happening!
Emily came down to her with her katana still in her hunting cloths and stopped three steps away from Griks, the young kobold.
Griks pressed herself against Eren’s leg and made a noise that sounded like a wet hiccup.
"Explain." Emily said that to Eren but even Selena and Lyra was now afraid of the possible dangers with her reaction.
"She’s a runaway and too weak to matter. I taught her Elvish and I guess they can all learn language skills like human or elves." He explained other details about what he learned but still let Griks prove her worth ftom time to time.
She was afraid and hated talking to this dangerous looking sword wielding blonde elf.
"Her name is Griks by the way. Also the most important information she gave wasn’t actually about this edgy emo master. She has information about other enemies." He shifted his weight so Griks wouldn’t fall over because her injured leg was getting worse. "It’s the information we need about Orcs!"
Emily looked at the kobold for a long time. Griks looked back with terror.
"Bring her inside then." Emily said and turned back toward the house but only after kissing Eren with a juicy wet kiss in front of others two more times.
This scene even made the wolves a bit weird.
Selena and Lyra exchanged a glance. Whatever they’d come here for tonight was clearly not happening anymore even if they only tried their luck.
Selena recovered first. "I’ll make food." She walked toward the restaurant without another word. Lyra followed her after one more confused look at the kobold.
Rosa closed her notebook and moved out of the doorway. "You brought home a kobold."
"I brought home an informant."
"You brought home a kobold, Eren." She said it the same way she used to say "you left the stove on again" back in their apartment on Earth.
Fair point.
"And its a female kobold..."
"Oh, shut up!" Eren didn’t know what to answer. Sometimes he couldn’t come up with proper remarks or comeback.
Inside the house Griks sat on the floor because she refused the chair. She kept her injured leg stretched out and her back pressed against the wall like a kid sent to the principal’s office for the first time.
Emily sat across the room with her arms crossed. Fury stayed at the door and his eyes never left the kobold. Rury walked up to Griks and sniffed her from head to toe like she was checking expiration dates at a grocery store.
[Does this thing have meat on it?] Rury’s voice in Eren’s head was genuinely curious.
"She’s not food Rury."
[I didn’t say food. I said meat. Different question.]
"Same answer."
Griks watched the wolf sniff her and looked at Eren with pure panic. He waved his hand. "She won’t hurt you. Probably."
[Probably is generous.] Fury said from the door.
Eren translated what he said to Emily and confused Griks. She didn’t know wolves were smart and it was shocking to her.
Eren crouched next to Griks and switched to simplified Elvish. "Tell them what you told me again with more detail. About the master."
Griks looked at all the faces in the room and her breathing went shallow. Emily’s face wasn’t helping because she looked like she was deciding which part of the kobold to stab first.
"It’s okay." Eren said. He kept his voice low. "Nobody will hurt you here."
Griks swallowed hard and started talking.
Her Elvish was still broken but the skill transfer had helped enough that Eren only needed to fill in a few gaps. She talked about the master, about the kobold clans under his control and about the orc groups waiting in the east. Most of it Eren had already heard in the forest but he let her repeat it for Emily and Rosa.
Emily didn’t move during the whole thing. She sat perfectly still with her arms crossed and listened the way a hunter listened for prey in the bushes.
When Griks mentioned elf blood Emily’s fingers tightened on her own arm for just a second and Eren noticed because he always noticed Emily’s hands. Even now with her jaw locked and her body rigid like a statue he caught himself looking at her fingers instead of paying attention.
Rosa was writing everything down in her notebook. She’d switched to a shorthand system that looked like a mix of Turkish and something she’d invented herself. Every few sentences she’d tap the pen against the page and underline something.
Griks finished and pulled her knees up to her chest. She looked exhausted.
Emily finally spoke. "How long until the mapping is done?"
Eren translated. Griks thought about it and held up both hands. Then put one down and held up three fingers on the other.
"Couple days to one week maximum? She’s not sure." Eren said.
"Then its only days with the worst possibility." Emily corrected.
"That’s not a lot of-"
"No. It isn’t." Emily stood up and walked to the window. The totem was visible from there, small and dark against the night sky. "We need a village meeting. Tomorrow morning. Everyone."
..
The meeting happened at Selena’s restaurant because it was the only building big enough.
Oldir and Toris took the back corner smelling like sawdust and leaf cigarettes. Kelion brought his herb bag because he apparently went nowhere without it. Thadric arrived early and immediately spotted Griks sitting behind Eren in the corner.
His hand went to his hunting knife. "What is-"
"Sit down Thadric." Emily cut him off before the sentence landed.
Thadric sat. He didn’t take his eyes off the kobold but he sat.
Rabbu-i was last. She leaned against the back wall wearing something that couldn’t legally be called a dress in most Earth countries and crossed her arms which made the fabric do things Eren had to pretend he didn’t see.
Village meeting. Orc army. Focus. Stop it.
Eren stood at the front and explained what Griks had told him. He kept it simple. Someone in the forest controlled multiple creature groups. The attacks so far were just scouts mapping the area. The real assault force included orcs. It could come within months.
The room went quiet for too long.
Oldir was the first to speak. He took a slow drag from his leaf cigarette and let the smoke out through his nose. "How many orcs."
"Multiple groups. Maybe hundreds."
"Hundreds maybe thousands..." Oldir repeated like the word tasted wrong in his mouth.
Thadric rubbed the back of his neck. "We can barely handle twenty kobolds. Hundreds of orcs would..."
"Would kill us all." Mel said from her spot near the door. She had both daggers out and was cleaning them like they were dirty spoons. "Right? That’s what you were going to say?"
"Mel." Emily said.
"What? Nobody else is going to say it? Fine, I’ll say it. We’re-"
"Enough." Emily’s voice went cold and Mel stopped talking mid-word.
The room stayed tense. Nimbo shifted in his chair next to his sister. Two of the older elves Eren didn’t know by name were whispering to each other. Thadric was still gripping his hunting knife under the table.
Rosa raised her hand.
"If the attacks were scouting." she said in careful Elvish, "then fighting... gave us nothing. We were treating..." She stopped and looked at Eren.
He translated: "She’s saying we’ve been treating symptoms instead of the disease. The kobold patrols collected information about us. We should’ve been collecting information about them."
Emily nodded. "She’s right."
Rosa’s pen stopped for half a second. It was the first time Emily had agreed with her about anything in front of other people and they both knew it.
"Griks can help." Eren said. "She knows patrol routes, she knows which groups are controlled and which ones are running. She’s been in this forest longer than any of us except maybe Emily."
"Maybe Emily?" Emily raised an eyebrow at him.
"Definitely Emily. You’ve been here longer. Obviously."
"Good save mister."
Thadric looked at the kobold. Griks flinched under his gaze but held it. She was braver than her size suggested which wasn’t saying much because she was four feet tall and shaking. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"If the creature helps us then fine." Thadric said. "But I’m sleeping with my spear until this is over."
"You already sleep with your spear." Toris said from the back. A few people laughed and that broke the room open enough for people to start breathing normally again.
Selena brought tea without anyone asking. She put a cup in front of Eren and her fingers brushed his hand for exactly one second longer than necessary. Emily saw it. Eren saw Emily see it. Selena saw both of them see it and smiled.
I live in the most complicated house in two entire universes.
..
After the meeting Eren found Emily on the porch. She was sitting on the step with her hand on her belly. She’d been doing that more often lately. Not because she could feel anything yet but because it was becoming a habit like checking your phone for messages.
He sat down next to her.
"One week maximum..." she muttered.
"Griks wasn’t sure about the-"
"Doesn’t matter." Her hand stayed on her belly. "One week or one month. This village can’t fight an orc army. Maybe we can but defense isn’t strong and it is the real issue. Totem is getting weaker every day possible this winter will be at it’s weakest moment to allow every enemy creature to get inside...
We need to start thinking about getting people out."
Ten fighters and a wooden wall against hundreds of orcs with a master who could mind-control entire species.
"Door Master can move people to Earth." he said.
Emily turned to look at him. "How many per trip can you send to other side?"
Eren was already thinking about it so he had a round number. "5 without any luggage. Portal stays open about six to seven seconds now."
"Mana cost is the problem right?"
"Full drain as always, hell, I was dreaming so many other things but it sucks to lose all second portal opening options on the other side. Fragment needs hours to recharge and only gives me one chance to come back."
He didn’t say it but he didn’t believe opening the portal to distant places in the forest would change anything.
Emily went quiet and her eyes moved slightly like she was reading numbers in the air. "That’s days of trips for the whole village if we start now. And that’s if nothing goes wrong."
"Yeah."
They sat there for a while and Eren let himself feel how tired he was. Not physically because Level 40 didn’t get tired from talking but it was mental tiresome.
This noon he’d been worried about the breeding arrangement with Selena and Lyra. Tonight he was calculating evacuation logistics for a hundred people through a portal that stayed open for six seconds.
My life escalates faster than the prices on Amazon during Black Friday.
Griks appeared at the garden gate. She was limping but standing on her own now. Fury was two steps behind her. Not guarding exactly but not leaving either.
"Big elf-man." Griks said. "Forgot one thing."
"What?"
"Master’s kobolds finish mapping soon. But master waits for other thing too." She looked toward the village center where the totem stood dark and quiet. "He waits for big tree to get weak. When tree sleeps, he moves."
Emily’s hand stopped on her belly.
Eren looked at the totem. Kelion had said last week that the leaves were yellowing for the first time in a century. And the ejderha flew closer every week and always looked at the same damn thing.
So this damn master is watching the totem too. Also the dragon is watching the totem. And we’re sitting on top of whatever the totem is hiding underneath. Great. That’s just great.
He really needed to gear up and react level 50, and maybe few more levels for the skills to upgrade them to next evolution. Eren was making a daring plan with the new information about Orc’s in the picture.
Maybe he didn’t have to wait. How strong these Orcs, he didn’t know yet.
But before that, I need to open portals to Earth and also send some of the Elves to that side for worst case scenarios.
