I Got Reincarnated As The Ntr Protagonist In An Online Game-Chapter 38: Gift
Chapter 38: Gift
Junior stirred as the soft glow of morning sunlight seeped through the curtains, painting the room with a warm golden hue. The gentle chirping of birds outside blended with the faint hum of life waking up in the distance. Slowly, he opened his eyes, squinting at the brightness. His hand reached instinctively to the other side of the bed, searching for the familiar warmth that had become a comforting routine.
But the sheets were cool under his touch.
Blinking away the haze of sleep, Junior turned his head. The space beside him was empty, the pillow smooth and unmarked, with no trace of Helen’s presence remaining.
"Helen, where are you?" he called out, his voice still heavy with sleep. The quiet that followed seemed to press down on the room, an emptiness that made his chest tighten.
"Maybe she went back to her room," Junior muttered to himself, his tone tinged with doubt.
Throwing back the covers, Junior stood up. "Anyway, I need to get ready to go to the orphanage. I missed yesterday because I fainted. Overworking my body with sword training wasn’t the smartest move," he admitted under his breath.
He grabbed his clothes and headed to the bathroom for a quick bath, the cold water jolting him fully awake.
---
After finishing his bath, Junior emerged from the bathroom, fully dressed and ready for the day. He had plans to visit the orphanage, to see Emma and the kids who always managed to lift his spirits. Just as he was checking himself in the mirror, a soft knock came at the door, followed by a familiar feminine voice.
"Good morning, Albert," Helen greeted, a playful chuckle lacing her words.
"Good morning to you too, love," Junior replied, smiling as he opened the door to let her in.
"Thank you," Helen said with a teasing grin as she walked past him, stealing a quick kiss. She smiled mischievously. "Payback."
Junior stared at her, a faint laugh escaping his lips as a thought crossed his mind. *Where did her shy personality go? She’s getting so bold now. Yesterday, she couldn’t even look me in the eye after we...*
"Albert, is something wrong?" Helen’s voice broke through his thoughts, snapping him back to the moment.
"No, not really," Junior answered, though the smile lingering on his face gave him away.
"You sure? Baby, you can tell me anything," Helen said, wrapping her arms around his shoulders, her eyes searching his.
Junior hesitated before letting out a small sigh. "Okay, okay. It’s just... it felt kinda lonely waking up without you beside me."
Helen’s cheeks flushed a deep red, and she stammered, "Y-you..." Her gaze darted to the side as she tried to hide her embarrassment.
"Yes, this is the Helen I know," Junior said with a chuckle, clearly amused.
Without another word, Helen turned abruptly and grabbed something from near the door. Holding up a sword and a scabbard, she offered them to Junior with an apologetic look. "I’m sorry. The reason I left so early was that I was looking for these. I wanted to give you a gift."
"Thank you, Helen," Junior said, his voice filled with gratitude as he took the sword and scabbard. He secured the scabbard to his waist, carefully sliding the sword into place, before pulling Helen into a hug. He peppered her face with kisses, saying, "Thank you, Helen," over and over again.
Helen blushed even more but responded with a bright smile. "Don’t mention it, Albert. I just want to make you happy. Seeing you happy makes me happy too."
Junior paused, looking at her with a soft expression. The words slipped from his lips before he could stop them. "Helen, you’re too good for me."
The smile on Helen’s face faltered, replaced by a look of sadness as tears welled in her eyes. "Don’t say that. I’m the one who doesn’t deserve you," she whispered, her voice trembling.
Junior’s heart sank. "I’m sorry. I won’t say it again. Don’t cry. We love each other, and we both deserve this." He gently wiped the tears from her cheeks, holding her hands tightly.
"Why don’t we go to the orphanage together?" he asked, trying to lift her spirits.
Helen wiped her eyes and gave him a warm smile. "Let’s go, love," she said, her voice full of affection.
Junior smiled, feeling a wave of relief as Helen’s mood lightened. He grabbed his coat and slid his sword securely into the scabbard at his waist. Together, they stepped out of the room and into the hallway.
----
In the hallway, Helen and Junior spotted Rebecca and Susan from a distance. The two hadn’t noticed them yet. Helen quickly withdrew her hand from Junior’s grasp and leaned close to whisper in his ear, her breath warm against his skin. "Please understand and don’t be offended, but my sister loves me too much. She once blinded a random man in one eye just because he glanced at me."
"Alright, I understand," Junior replied, outwardly calm, though his thoughts raced wildly. That’s terrifying! You’ve got it all wrong, Helen. Your sister is a possessive siscon, and I’m in serious danger here. If she finds out we had sex, she’s definitely going to kill me. I just know it. A cold sweat began to trickle down his face as the weight of his predicament sank in.
Helen noticed his sudden sweating and tilted her head in concern, her eyes searching his. "Are you okay?" she asked softly, her voice tinged with worry.
"Yes, I am," Junior quickly replied, pulling out a handkerchief to dab the sweat from his forehead, trying to appear composed. But his heart pounded like a drum, each beat echoing the fear creeping up his spine.
