I Have a Dice Left by a God-Chapter 301 - 168: Call Me Brother
Hedan, 88 Mahler Street, No. 109.
Although it was only his third visit, Li Xin already felt a strong familiarity with the place. Of course, he didn't need to climb through the window anymore; he was now a man with a key and could enter through the front door.
Christie was making dinner for herself. In truth, Li Xin felt a bit nervous. Christie was undoubtedly an independent woman, and their relationship was somewhat delicate. This sudden intrusion could be well-received or could be quite off-putting, and even though he had an excuse, he was still unsure inside.
When Christie saw Li Xin, she froze for a moment before smiling. "You little glutton, I rarely cook, and you've already caught the scent."
Li Xin made himself comfortable at the dining table and rubbed his stomach. "I am actually hungry."
Christie chuckled. "Just wait a moment, it'll be ready soon."
Christie's dinner was very simple—vegetables paired with pan-fried beef and bread. She set the table and placed it in front of Li Xin. "Give it a try."
Looking at Christie standing beside him, Li Xin took her hand. "Let's eat together."
"Alright," Christie nodded lightly.
Suddenly, Li Xin furrowed his brows. "Are you hurt?"
Christie pulled her hand away and smiled. "Just a minor issue."
The two looked at each other in silence, and after finishing Christie's prepared dinner, Li Xin took out perfume and essential oils.
"Is this a gift?" Normally it should be, but Christie could tell from Li Xin's expression that something was off. Her little man wouldn't be so easily swayed by lust.
"It was supposed to be, but now it's not. This is the perfume and essential oil launched by the Celestial Fragrance Workshop, you know?" Li Xin asked.
Christie picked up the exquisite glass bottle and nodded. "Very famous, nobles are vying to buy it. After we launched the ad, Hedan Daily followed up with their first ad being for Celestial Fragrance Workshop. Their perfume has also captured a large market among wealthy merchants. Is there a problem?"
Li Xin couldn't explain the dice's verdict; he didn't find anything with the Eye of Secrets either, but he was sure this perfume and essential oil must have an issue.
"I don't know much about alchemy, but there is a very big problem with both this perfume and essential oil," Li Xin said.
Christie opened the glass bottle, about to smell it, when Li Xin grabbed her hand and shook his head. "It's best not to try randomly. Let an expert check it. There should be someone skilled in the Night Patrol, right?"
Christie paused and then closed the bottle. "Celestial Fragrance Workshop is an old workshop in Hedan. It used to supply the royal family, but the current King practiced frugality and canceled it, yet it remains a prestigious brand in Hedan with no competitors. Many people use it, and I've never heard of any accidents."
"I know, it's very popular now. It's reached the Canon Law School and even some affluent households. But I suddenly remembered, when visiting those families with strange attitudes, I noticed they all had a faint perfume scent. I didn't think much of it at the time, but now it seems odd. How could they bother wearing perfume in that state? The key is it's from Celestial Fragrance Workshop. One might be a coincidence, but if all of them used it, then this thing must have a problem." Li Xin said seriously, hoping to get Christie's attention.
A family in shambles can afford such expensive perfume?
Seeing Li Xin so unusually serious, Christie had to take it seriously too. "Do you suspect this thing is related to the Inner Demon?"
"I don't know, just a feeling that Hedan is in a big whirlpool right now, anything could happen. It might be something slowly affecting people's minds, or it could need a certain trigger, causing a change upon contact with some substance, leading to unpredictable consequences. Of course, this is just my guess, not sure if this is possible." Li Xin said thoughtfully. The dice gave an extreme danger indication at one point, meaning this thing had major issues. Dragon Mother had used it for a while without any problems, but he had already warned her when he came out.
The reason to scare Dragon Mother was simple: after a secret investigation, the Hex Bird Report found the perfume to be toxic and damaging to the skin. It's still classified information, but using it continuously would harm one's appearance. Whether true or not, Dragon Mother got scared enough not to touch it again. The Hex Bird Report still holds prestige among the Hedan people.
"I'll have someone study this specifically, no need to scare ourselves. Although Hedan is a bit weird right now, it doesn't have much to do with us." Christie said.
"Any leads on Dark Cuisine?" Li Xin asked.
As soon as business was mentioned, Christie's eyes lit up. "Carry me upstairs."
Li Xin was speechless, his mouth twitching. Though he wanted to, he was already restraining himself desperately, yet she dared to tease him—this was pouring oil on fire. He didn't have that much self-control. "You're injured!"
Christie gave Li Xin a sultry look, her slender white fingers beckoning. "What are you thinking? We're just discussing business, little brother."
The word "brother" made Li Xin's mind unable to keep up with his body. Before he knew it, he was holding Christie and heading upstairs.
This must be some kind of witchcraft. Indeed, after all, this is the mysterious Dao Yuan Continent.
"Can we really?" Though he said that, his body was honest.
"Just be gentle..."
...
"Call me brother."
"In your dreams!"
...
The night in Hedan was exceptionally beautiful and quiet, the red moon hid behind the clouds, perhaps she couldn't bear to watch any longer. In the room, the two were embracing, "The headquarters sent over a portrait of that officer. He was Bocuse's disciple, and had already been appointed as the sixth elder of the Gourmet Association. Later, Bocuse found out he was secretly researching Dark Cuisine and then expelled him. It's said there was some controversy within the Gourmet Association, but for some reason things went quiet afterwards."
"Is there a photo?" Li Xin was also eager to see this key figure.
"Yes, according to the Night Patrol's intelligence, this person is very likely also in Hedan. Want to see?" Christie said, "This was taken during the Gourmet Competition in Dragon Capital."
"Okay."
Christie stood up, her graceful figure enveloped in the night, adorned with a mysterious glow. The Earth Mother Goddess truly was a remarkable creator, her sexy figure flawless.
Christie pulled out a leather pouch from the cabinet's compartment, taking a photo from it.
"People from the Gourmet Association can't hide away in the mountains, and among the many inclusive cities, the best choices aside from Dragon Capital are Hedan." Christie said, lightly brushing her hair.
Li Xin reluctantly moved his gaze away from Christie, suspecting she did it on purpose, but he had no proof. However, the moment he saw the photo, Li Xin was stunned.
Christie noticed Li Xin's odd reaction. "Do you know this person?"
Li Xin shook his head. "The outline seems familiar, but I'm not sure."
"No one knows the insider secrets of the Gourmets, and this person is also very dangerous. He's said to be the most talented person in the Gourmet Association in decades, and is set to be the youngest elder. Yet, he managed to escape amid the Association's siege, which is no small feat." Christie reminded him, "I know you're very strong, but many Secret Organizations are not knights, they won't fight head-on."
"You finally admit I'm strong." Li Xin laughed.
Christie bit her little white teeth in anger. If the injury wasn't still somewhat affecting her, she'd definitely make this little rascal pay.
"Talk seriously!"
"Got it, is big sister worried about me?"
"You're thinking too much!" Christie said, "The Night Patrol is already searching, but there's no progress at the Mother Goddess School yet. Their vigilance is stronger than imagined, making it hard to approach."
"Can we start with the people entering and leaving the school?"
"It's difficult, those allowed in and out of the school have a strong faith, to the point of losing rationality. We also worry about alerting them, there's only one chance." Christie said.
Li Xin thought of Miss Aries, wondering if she had made any progress.
"Any progress with the Funeral Attendant?"
"Don't mention it, they're all cowards, not daring to investigate the Mother Goddess School."
"His Majesty wants to act but won't give authority, afraid of this and that, which makes for a frustrating king too." Li Xin said, including Achilles, as he seemed unwilling to directly tackle the issue.
"Tradition is supreme. He's already impressive for keeping the Kingdom from splitting into civil war." Christie said.
Li Xin gently wrapped Christie's smooth waist; he had no interest in meddling in Kingdom affairs, only wanting to sleep soundly.
