I Have a Modern Weapon Gacha System in the Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 58: Learned Something
Fifteen minutes later, the Blackhawk returned to the base and landed on the helipad.
Ryan immediately went to the command center where Adrian is without waiting for the others.
Inside, he saw Adrian, looking at footage on the screen.
"Sir Adrian," Ryan called.
Adrian turned his head towards him and spoke. "Oh, Ryan, you’re back. I was expecting you. I heard that you encountered a new type of creature at Fort Magsaysay? And does it look like that?"
Adrian pointed at the screen where the black creature was displayed.
Ryan scanned the screen and nodded. "Yeah, they are too similar. Where is that?"
"It’s in Boracay, where my parents are," Adrian answered in a grim tone. "This can’t be happening. How come those creatures are popping out like there is a new variant?"
"We don’t know too sir. But one thing we do know is that the creature is as tough as the Supreme Hunter and agile too. I don’t think small-arms would take care of it. Also, the Fort Magsaysay, as I will report again, has been overrun."
"Two depressing news," Adrian bit his lower lip. "What the heck is happening really in this world? First my system. Sure it’s overpowered, I can summon personnel and military hardware but the enemies are just as overpowered."
"Maybe it’s the reason why you were blessed with a system, sir, to combat those threats, as the world’s military were crippled by the apocalypse. Speaking of the apocalypse, Herrera just said something interesting. A theory where this apocalypse was planned by someone."
"What do you mean?" Adrian turned to him fully now.
"According to Herrera, the military were attacked first by the infecteds or zombies, before the outbreak even hit the cities in full."
Adrian didn’t interrupt, allowing him to continue.
"He said it himself," Ryan continued. "First day, before anything was publicly reported, they were already dealing with infected inside their own installations. Not outside trying to break in—inside. Barracks, hangars, command areas."
Adrian’s expression hardened slightly.
"So they were compromised from within," he said.
"Yeah," Ryan replied. "And not just them. He said it wasn’t isolated. Army, Air Force, Navy—same pattern. Early collapse across all branches."
Adrian looked back at the screen.
"That is really an interesting theory. That someone had planned this. But the question is whom?"
"That I think is what we need to figure out sir. It’s going to be difficult as it happened all at once across the globe. We don’t even know where to start. The best course of action really is to survive this new world."
Adrian sighed. "That won’t do. But I understand you logically. We don’t have leads to whoever has caused this but we can assume it’s someone with powers similar to me."
"But sir, since all the military branches were attacked simultaneously, assuming that, perhaps we could get an answer if we find the president and the high-ranking officials. Preferably in defense."
"Herrera doesn’t know where the president even is. He escaped right?" Adrian recalled and then realized something. "Hmm...perhaps we can start by looking at the residence of the president. The Malacanang Palace."
"That’s a good start sir," Ryan concurred.
"As much as I want to send an operation, I need you for another task. I want to know if my parents are still alive. Boracay is also compromised as we have detected zombies and new variants roaming the streets and coast."
"Sir, I’m willing to do whatever you want us to do," Ryan said, reaffirming his loyalty.
"Thank you Ryan. They are my only family left. I can’t lose them like I lost my sister. I hope they are okay. But before we do that, let’s study this new variant first. We haven’t killed one yet so we don’t know its name. But let’s call it Hunter for now."
"No problem sir," Ryan said.
"Based on the footage, we believe the creature is blind and acts on sound," Adrian continued, eyes still on the screen.
He replayed the clip.
The moment the creature froze.
The way its head angled.
The direction it turned.
"Look at this," Adrian said, slowing the footage. "It doesn’t scan visually. It reacts to movement patterns tied to sound. The civilian runs, makes noise—it locks on immediately."
Ryan leaned in slightly.
"Same at Fort Magsaysay," he said. "It ignored everything else and went straight for us. Rotor noise. it tracked that, not proximity."
Adrian nodded once.
"So it prioritizes the loudest target," he said. "That explains the direct engagement on the helicopter."
Ryan folded his arms.
"And the jumps," he added. "Those weren’t random. It built momentum before launching. That means it understands distance. It is a smart variant. And a challenging one for an infantry to engage. We’ll need heavy ordnance to even kill one of them. I don’t think we will survive fighting when we encounter one."
"That I understand. Which is why while we were waiting for your arrival, we already came up with a plan."
"A plan?" Ryan repeated, tilting his head to the side.
"Since the zombies and the new variant are drawn to noise, we’ll lure them out in a single spot and take them all at once using a powerful missile, fired from a jet."
Ryan processed the plan in his head and nodded.
"That sounds workable," Ryan said, finishing the thought as he looked back at the screen. "If we can control where they gather, we can hit them hard enough to actually kill them."
Adrian nodded once.
"That’s the only way," he said. "We don’t trade rounds with something that shrugs off small-arms. We force concentration, then we wipe it out in one strike."
Ryan shifted slightly, thinking through it.
"We’ll need bait," he said. "Something loud enough to draw both the regular infected and those Hunters."
"Already considered," Adrian replied. "We will use drones to produce a high-pitch sound that will attract those zombies and hunters into the area where we want them to congregate. And then blow them to smithereens."
"When are we going to leave then sir?"
"Tomorrow morning."
