I Maxed Out My Luck Stat-Chapter 10: Powerless
Selica felt helpless.
However, she wasn’t completely so.
For one, she still had her aide who would step in if things went out of hand.
’Speaking of Emily, where is she...?!’ Selica gritted her teeth as she glanced in the direction of the useless woman who remained stationary. ’Why won’t she come and help me?!’
Emily was frozen in place.
Her eyes were wide open as she tightly held the hinges of her glasses and gazed upon the scene.
It didn’t seem like she had any intention to help.
Instead, she was staring at Richard—or rather, his weapon—with sheer bewilderment.
This made Selica lose all hope on that front.
That left—
’My Principal Disposition... should I use it?’ Selica pondered this issue amidst the severe pain that coursed through her body. ’No, Father forbade me from using it openly. I can’t even use it freely in the manor, and we’re in another territory right now...’
Selica was a troubled child, but she wasn’t stupid.
She knew what she could get away with and what she couldn’t.
Killing a maid or a few aides wasn’t that big a deal (actually, it was), since her father could waive her actions. She was an esteemed Noble, and now that she had awakened a Special Rank Principal Disposition, she had become even more important.
With no competition among her siblings, she was destined to become the Head of her Household. Such a person could get away with so many things.
But—
’Using my Principal Disposition now would be going too far. For one, I would be defying father’s Noble Edict.’
A Noble Edict was as good as law in the territory that they governed.
None could defy it.
It was a decree that all had to follow—even other Nobles.
Only the Head of Household or their proxy could make said Edict, and her father had done so regarding the matter of her Principal Disposition. Defying him would bring about serious consequences.
She might end up suffering even worse pain than at this very moment.
Plus...
’Thinking logically, I will be at a major disadvantage now if I expose my powers before entering the Academy. If my Principal Disposition is exposed now, many analyses will be done to counter it. I will have a much harder time when I enter the Academy...’
These two reasons—punishment from her father and the challenge of the Academy—were only barely holding her back from completely wiping the floor with the boy before her.
’Endure... You have to endure!’
After the ninth round of gunfire, however, Selica had endured enough!
She wanted to kill someone.
Richard... She wanted to kill Richard, no matter what!
"Principal Disposition..." She whispered amidst grating teeth, her violet eyes set ablaze by the sheer quality of hatred locked within them.
"[Marione—]"
BANG
BANG
BANG!
Three consecutive rounds of gunfire poured on her face, one in particular entering through her forehead. Of the other two, one burst into one of her eyes, and the other entered her throat.
"G-guhhh..."
She instantly choked on blood, losing all concentration instantly.
The assault on her forehead in particular made her lose all focus, and she found herself unable to activate her ability.
’I-Impossible!’ With wide open eyes, she gasped. ’I-I can’t...?!’
Her vision began to grow blank.
She had lost too much blood, so she was falling unconscious.
’No... no way!’
Was she—Selica Magicula Vi Noir—going to lose just like that? 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Apparently... yes.
’Y-you bastard... I won’t forget this! I’ll never forgive you...’ Her blurry, almost darkened gaze stared at the cold, expressionless Richard, who kept his weapon pointed at her.
"B-bastard..."
THUD!
Selica finally collapsed on the ground, splashing in her own pool of blood.
At that moment, silence reigned supreme.
Richard, who had sat up, stared at her in silence, while Emily, the attendant, was alternating stares between him and her Young Lady.
Neither of them said anything.
Then—
"Haaa..." He parted his lips and turned towards the stunned aide.
At that moment, their eyes met.
An understanding was immediately established.
"Why don’t we end things here today?"
Emily heard him utter those words and immediately nodded as hard as she could.
However, Richard continued to sigh.
"It appears the meeting ended on a sour note. I’ll consider things even now, and I hope you do the same. Since the Young Lady has fallen unconscious, I won’t be able to wish her farewell, but I do send my humble regards to my dear fiancée." Richard smiled at Emily, trying his best to be polite or collected in that moment.
But it only worsened the situation, as he looked like a crazed lunatic himself.
Some of Selica’s blood had poured on his face, so his forced grin caused him to appear dangerous—like he was making a threat.
Emily felt fear at that moment.
She felt in her heart that if she didn’t do as this person said, she would be next.
Having watched him brutally rain down all manner of suffering on Selica and hearing the Young Lady scream in pain, she could guess how terrifying his power was.
She didn’t want to have a taste of it.
"I look forward to our next meeting, and I hope it turns out better than today. I had a lot of fun, and I hope we can get along from this moment on... Please pass that across to her." Richard bowed slightly before taking his leave.
"I... will..."
Emily was dazed at his words, but even more surprised by his composure.
’H-he’s not terrified at all of our Young Lady... or of the Noir Household...!’ Emily was shaken to her core, feeling all kinds of complicated emotions inside her.
So this was the true Young Master of the Blanc Household!
How terrifying!
***********
Richard silently entered his room and locked himself inside.
He took in a deep breath, maintaining his stoic mask for only a fraction of a moment.
Then, it all crumbled in an instant.
"Holy shit... I’m so screwed!" He thought back to the words of his father, and how he was told to simply endure the Young Lady’s wishes, no matter what.
Not only did he not follow his parents’ instructions, but he even seriously wounded her.
’What was I going to do, though? She was going to kill me!’
He wanted to cry.
’It was an act of self-defense... right? I’m completely innocent in this matter!’
Such bullshit!
Richard knew he could not believe his own words.
Perhaps his first shot was simply that—self-defense. But what about the following rounds he fired at Selica?
Were those also desperate acts of self-preservation?
He knew the answer too well.
’I was just so... so angry. Angry and scared. In that moment, I really wanted to kill her.’
He didn’t even remember that Vampires wouldn’t die that easily.
That was why he kept unloading.
On and on!
He didn’t stop until all twelve rounds were fired at his target.
’But I’m surprised. I didn’t even miss a single shot...’ Richard thought to himself, forgetting his worries for a moment.
His vampire physiology gave him greater physical capabilities than a normal human.
As such, he wasn’t shocked that he was able to endure firing several rounds while barely feeling any strain. His superhuman capabilities also included perception, but since he had no prior experience with shooting a gun, he still expected to miss a few shots.
The first shot was explainable since they were so close in proximity.
But what of the ones that came after?
All twelve shots hit their mark, with the latter three even dealing critical damage.
Why was that the case?
Well... why else?
It was his luck!
What other explanation was there?
"Ah... I see now!" Richard suddenly found himself smiling, his unease disappearing by the minute. ’It appears I have underestimated my luck a great deal.’
Now that Richard thought about things properly... he realized something crazy.
He had been lucky all along!
