I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 29: Home
Chapter 29 - 29: Home
Kana sits on the sofa, biting her nails and shaking her legs profusely. She hasn't gotten a single sleep throughout the night.
No mother can sleep peacefully knowing their son's life is in danger.
Kana believes in no god, but she asked for every god there of to watch over her boy.
Time feels like it is standing still to her, and the night seems endless.
And the familiar figure materializes in the living room. She thinks she is dreaming for a second there, but when her boy speaks up, everything brightens again.
"Hi, Mom!" Blaze smiles.
Kana stands up and jumps at the boy, hugging him tightly.
"Welcome home, kiddo!
Are you alright? Are you injured anywhere?"
Kana walks around Blaze, checking every part of his body. The sports clothing is pristine, and not even a drop of blood is on its fabric.
"No, Mom. I'm all good."
Blaze says. He was slammed once by the Quarterback but that didn't even leave an injury on his body.
Kana lets out a sigh of relief.
"That's good. But where did you get these clothes?"
"Oh. I snatched some while in the Void. Can't walk around half-naked, you know."
"I understand."
"Mom. There isn't much time. I need to go somewhere."
"What are you talking about?"
"You remember Alyson?"
Then Blaze tells her about the kidnapping. He keeps the sensitive part out, like how he killed the Nocturnal Animals and trapped their souls, only telling her the part that is important.
Kana's bright expression fades slowly, her eyes fixated on Blaze and her jaw clenched tightly.
"Poor little girl... She was so nice to us."
"That's why, Mother. I need to save her. Nobody else will."
Kana stays silent for a long time before letting out a sigh. She knows she can't convince her son out of it.
She doesn't know if she even wants to. Her precious boy is different, he may not be a hero who wants to save them all, but he is not the kind of man to stand still and let injustice get away.
But letting him go means risking losing him.
He is a man now. Sometimes a man needs to do what he needs to do.
"Wait here."
Kana runs away, into the basement. She takes out an old, dusty box from one of the shelves and gets back to Blaze.
Inside it is an old, odd-looking knife.
It has a crescent shape with a curved blade. Its handle is made out of polished, smooth wood and is slightly gleaming. The blade is black, made of some unknown material, it looks like some type of glass because of its shining surface.
"What is it, Mom?"
"It's a karambit. A traditional blade from some country in the East. It belonged to your father.
He said to give it to you when the time comes. It will bring you power."
"A blade from Dad..."
Blaze reaches out his hand and grabs the blade.

The dark blade lights up a white color. Its energy reaches out like tentacles and enters Blaze's hand. A crescent moon symbol appears on the back of his hand.
Kana stares at everything with her eyes wide open. She has handled the knife for a long time and never seen it react in such a magical way.
Blaze rolls the knife in his hand, it feels like it was made for him specifically, a weird, familiar feeling connecting him to it.
"Thank you, Father."
"What is it, Blaze? How can you do that with the knife?"
"It's an artifact, Mom. It has power within it, the same as any Awakened.
Father knew a day like this would come."
Tears well up in Kana's eyes. She tries to hold it in but fails.
"He's still looking after us after all these years.
It's my fault. I should have given it to you sooner."
"It's alright, Mom. You didn't know.
I don't think the knife would react to me if I didn't have power anyway."
The System detects its power and helps bind the weapon to Blaze. Without it, who knows if the knife's power can be used.
"Take a rest, Mom. I need to get ready and go find Alyson.
You just need to wait for my return."
Kana nods.
"I will always be here for you, kiddo."
"Before that, there's something we need to deal with first."
Blaze goes out of the garden, and Kana follows him. With one simple blast of Force Shocker, the pile of dirt they buried Phuc in is dug up.
"What are you doing, Blaze?"
Kana seems truly puzzled. They tried really hard to bury this pig yesterday.
"Just watch, Mom."
Blaze takes out the Matchstick and lights it on fire. He throws it on the dirty corpse of the pig.
A fire burst out of the decomposing body. Only a few seconds pass, and Phuc's last remaining mark on this world has completely disappeared.
"Wow! Why didn't you take it out sooner?"
"I just got it in the Void, Mom."
"How convenient. I didn't know the Void had stuff like this."
Well, it doesn't. But how can I better explain this now? Blaming it on the Void is the best excuse.
Blaze thinks.
Kana doesn't even want to sleep and wants to wait for his return. Blaze knows she is stubborn, exactly like him, so he doesn't try to convince his mother.
"It won't be long, Mom. I will return before noon with Alyson."
Kana decides to cook something for the two of them instead of waiting around.
After that, Blaze goes to his room to collect the reward of the mission, maximizing his power to get ready for the upcoming fight.

[Detecting Set Piece between Equipment!]
[Tattered Mask (Ultra Rare) is within a Set Piece with Tattered Cloak (Uncommon). Equipping them together will provide special hidden benefits!]
Blaze smiles. A new hidden function within the System is now revealed. Before it was compatibility between Equipment and Powers. Now there are connections between the Equipment itself.
Whatever it is, it will definitely grow Blaze's power even more and guarantee a greater chance of success in rescuing Alyson.
The Beast's Tongue, on the other hand, is kind of useless. This power is actually notorious, a famous streamer is known to have this power.
You may think that Beast's Tongue can help you converse with animals and strategize some type of combat style. At the very least, it should help with production or pet-relating issues.
But no, the truth is the animal rarely uses language. Even their own tongue is total gibberish when you understand it. An animal goes by instinct and behavior. Knowing how to speak with it does not guarantee its cooperation at all.
Normal pet trainers even have a better chance at commanding the animals because they work with the animals' core instincts.
Beast's Tongue is useful but not that much, so it got an E-rank deservingly. The famous streamer, however, got a lot of laughs out of this power and became successful thanks to it.
