They heard the commotion not far off — crashing trees, the ground trembling, the air sharp with the hiss of wind blades.

The adventurers in the escort party exchanged grim looks, eyes wide. This wasn't some ordinary fighting.

Trees were falling — not one or two, but whole swaths crashing down at once. The battle raging out there was massive. And even though they knew Eccar was strong… was he strong enough to handle whatever force had just appeared?

None of them truly knew. To them, Eccar was just a powerful warrior from the Elven Kingdom — not a Dragonborn. They had no clear sense of his limits. And now, the same fear gnawed at each of them, what if they'd overestimated his strength? What if they'd let him go alone… only to find his broken corpse later?

"We have to help him!" Selene, the witch, said sharply, her face pale and drawn as though she could already see that grim outcome.

"I agree," Annette added, her voice tight. "No one's attacking us now. Maybe they all went after Eccar at once… or maybe they ran because something even stronger showed up to fight him right now."

Jan and Mark, the leaders of the party, stood silent for a beat, thinking fast. Then Mark turned to Jan. "What do you think?"

Everyone looked to Jan — the one who knew this forest best and the one they trusted to call it.

Jan exhaled hard. No time to hesitate. "Alright. Let's go. We help him."

Without wasting another second, they moved to cross the river. But before they made it halfway, a sudden pressure slammed down from above. It was a wind pressure so heavy that it pressed them into the ground.

They threw up their hands, shielding their eyes from the blast of air. But Jan's gut twisted. This wasn't just wind.

"It's not just wind…" he muttered, then his eyes snapped wide. "Its wind Magic attack! Cover yourself now!"

Years of battle-honed reflexes took over. No one froze for confusion.

Hund, Thorne, and Mark — the swordfighters — raised their blades and swung hard as slicing gusts slashed toward them. freёweɓnovel.com

Selene and Esther chanted in unison, their Magic weaving protective barriers.

Kaela spun her daggers defensively, and Jan threw up a shimmering half-dome of energy to shield himself and Annette.

The wind slashes tore through the air with a scream, striking a heartbeat after Jan's warning.

Water from the river exploded into spray as the blades hit, but their defenses held so no one was cut.

BOOM!

Then suddenly a deep bone-shaking thud rolled through the ground like an earthquake. Something massive had slammed into the ground back where Eccar was fighting.

"Shit! What the hell is going on over there?" Hund growled through gritted teeth.

"Is Eccar… is he alright?" Selene's voice cracked with worry.

Jan's face hardened. "We keep moving."

They pushed forward at a hurried pace — but then Jan suddenly lifted his hand, signaling them to stop.

Kaela blinked at him in disbelief. "What now? We have to hurry!"

Jan didn't answer right away. His eyes gleamed white as he poured more Magic into his vision, extending his sight far ahead.

He squinted then his lips parted in disbelief.

"I see him," Jan muttered. "Eccar… he's fine."

The others watched as Jan's gaze tracked something only he could see.

"He's standing up and brushing dust off his clothes. And he's grinning." Jan's voice was low, almost incredulous. "What the hell…"

The wind howled as the bird man swooped down again. His talons outstretched, aiming to tear through Eccar's throat.

His wings beat the air with enough force to snap smaller trees in half, his eyes glowing with murderous intent.

But Eccar didn't flinch. His scaled hand shot up and he caught the creature mid-dive.

The force of the impact cracked the ground beneath his feet, sending a pulse of broken earth outward.

The bird man screeched, wings flapping furiously, trying to break free. He twisted and slashed with his other claw, slicing at Eccar's shoulder. Sparks flew but no blood this time. The scales held firm.

With a grunt, Eccar tightened his grip, his muscles bulging beneath the hide.

"You're fast, bird," he muttered, his voice edged with a growl. "But not faster than me."

The bird man kicked off, wrenching himself free, and darted back into the air with blinding speed. Then he does another dive — this time sharper and faster, feathers bristling as he spun mid-air to slash from multiple angles.

A wind blade cut down with him, sharp enough to cleave boulders.

Eccar moved, not back but forward.

He stepped in, letting the wind blade scream past his shoulder and smashed his scaled fist upward.

It clipped the bird man's wing mid-swing in an instant, sending him spiraling off balance.

The creature righted himself mid-air, but his breathing grew ragged. His sharp eyes that once brimming with arrogance now flickered with uncertainty.

Eccar's grin widened. His skin rippled and more scales crawling up his arms.

Eccar surged forward, his speed make him into a blur. He was on the bird man before the creature could flap again, fists pounding like hammers.

A left hook slammed into the bird man's ribs, a crack echoing through the forest. A right fist smashed into his chest, sending feathers and blood flying.

The bird man coughed, staggering back mid-air, wings flailing. His mind raced — this wasn't supposed to happen. He was faster, he had the skies and all the advantage.

But now Eccar was matching his speed and overwhelming him with sheer force.

Another attack came at him, this time an elbow straight into the bird man's beak, breaking it sideways.

He shrieked in pain and crashing down through branches then slamming into the dirt.

Above him, Eccar loomed with his golden eyes locked on him.

The bird man's wings twitched. Doubt surged through him. This is no ordinary fighter… This is… something else.

Eccar's grin didn't fade.

"We're not done yet. But don't worry, I will not kill you," he muttered and stepping forward.

The bird man wanted to retaliate but Eccar contolled earth to pierce his wings.
