Chapter 38: Chapter 38: The Death of the Bone Dragon

"Eradicate it," Lucifer commanded.

High on the jagged cliffs overlooking the valley, the one hundred Cryo-Vanguard snipers received the order. They did not simply pull their triggers. They activated their ultimate class ability.

[System: Unit Skill Activated - Hailstorm Protocol.]

[Source: Cryo-Vanguard Snipers (Tier 2)]

[Effect: Unloads 100 condensed ice-rounds per unit in a single second. -90% Accuracy penalty negated by Warlord Aura.]

The blue mana inside their heavy rifles instantly shifted. The True Damage from Lucifer’s Carnage Core flooded their weapons.

The ice-crystals turned a blinding, violent ruby red.

The snipers exhaled in perfect unison. They squeezed their triggers and held them down.

A nonstop, deafening roar filled the Scourgelands. The kickback from the heavy rifles cracked the stone ridge beneath the snipers’ boots.

Glowing red firebolts crossed the sky. They moved so fast they formed a solid pillar of crimson light.

The Spectral Bone Dragon thrashed against Sarah’s starlight chains. It saw the incoming barrage.

The monster opened its massive jaws to unleash another torrent of green necrotic fire, desperately trying to melt the incoming firebolts.

It was too late.

The pillar of crimson ice-rounds struck the exact center of the dragon’s massive ribcage.

[System: True Damage Applied.]

[Ignoring 100% of Target’s Physical Armor.]

[Ignoring 100% of Target’s Magical Barriers.]

The Bone Dragon was a Level 48 Legendary Zone Boss. Its bones were denser than steel. Its spectral green shield was designed to absorb siege magic.

The True Damage ignored all of it.

The first hundred rounds hit the outer ribs. The bone did not crack; it instantly vaporized. The next rounds punched straight through the gap, drilling a perfectly round, ten-foot-wide tunnel into the beast’s chest cavity.

The dragon screamed. The sound was a sharp screech of pure unbearable pain. It struggled violently, its massive claws digging deep into the earth, but the silver starlight chains kept its wings completely pinned.

The remaining rounds flooded into the beast’s open chest.

They struck the glowing, pulsing green necrotic core at the center of the Leviathan’s body.

The impact was devastating. The red-hot ice rounds pierced the core, expanding and exploding all at once.

BOOM.

A shockwave of conflicting magic exploded from the inside out.

The Bone Dragon’s ribcage blew apart. Shards of bleached bone the size of houses flew outward, crashing into the cracked dirt miles away.

The monster’s scream suddenly went silent.

The green fire in its huge eye sockets went out instantly. The heavy aura of death magic surrounding its body disappeared.

Without its core, the magical binding holding the mountain-sized skeleton together completely failed.

The Leviathan lost all cohesion. The heavy, jagged bones simply disconnected from one another.

Sarah’s solid starlight chains pulled cleanly through the dissolving wings. The massive skull dropped from the sky, hitting the ground with a thunderous crash that shook the entire valley.

Its spine, ribs, and huge tail collapsed next, forming a massive heap of debris.

A dense snowstorm of bone dust rained down over the Scourgelands. It coated the black ash, the hovering Dragoons, and the terrified mercenaries in a thick layer of white.

[Boss Eliminated: Spectral Bone Dragon (Level 48)]

[Experience Gain Suspended: Mortal Level Cap Reached.]

Lucifer sat perfectly still on his Nightmare Steed. The bone dust settled on his dark armor like fresh snow.

He lowered his right hand. The blinding red light of the Carnage Core faded, returning to a dormant, black glass state.

The valley was dead silent.

Behind Lucifer, the ten thousand Awakened mercenaries stared at the massive mountain of white dust.

They had just witnessed a Level 48 Legendary Zone Boss get completely erased from existence in few minutes. No heavy casualties.

Just a single flawless execution.

A lone mercenary in the front row raised his sword. He let out a hoarse and disbelieving cheer.

Instantly, the rest of the column erupted. Ten thousand men and women roared in absolute triumph.

They banged their swords against their shields. They cheered for the angels. They cheered for the snipers. They chanted the Warlord’s name.

Lucifer ignored them.

He spurred his Nightmare Steed forward. The black beast trotted smoothly over the cracked earth, approaching the epicenter of the destroyed Leviathan.

Elara landed her mount gently beside him.

"A clean kill," Elara noted. She wiped a layer of white dust from her silver pauldron. "The True Damage bypasses the natural order of combat. It is terrifying."

"It is efficient," Lucifer corrected her.

He stopped his steed at the edge of a deep crater formed by the dragon’s collapsing skull.

In the center of the crater, completely untouched by the bone dust, sat the loot. It was a massive, heavy chest made of dark iron and glowing green runes. It pulsed with residual necrotic magic.

Lucifer dismounted. His boots hit the dust-covered ground.

He walked down into the crater and stood before the heavy iron chest. He did not bother searching for a key or casting an unlocking spell. He placed his bare hand directly on the cold, runic iron.

Lucifer let his soul resonate with the loot.

[Divine Talent: Apex Multiplier Activated!]

[Applying 10,000x multiplier to Boss Drop Table...]

The heavy iron chest shuddered violently. The sickly green runes burned away, replaced by a brilliant, pure white light.

The rusted iron purified itself, turning into flawless, gleaming silver. The chest expanded, doubling in size as the immense value of the multiplied loot strained against the physical container.

The lock shattered with a sharp crack. The heavy silver lid blew open.

Lucifer looked inside.

The chest was completely empty of gold or standard weapons. The multiplier had condensed the loot pool into the two absolute highest-tier items possible.

Resting on a bed of glowing blue frost was a massive, heavy egg. It was the size of a boulder, covered in thick, diamond-hard scales.

[Loot Acquired: Frost-Wurm Egg]

[Tier: Legendary Pet / Mount]

[Status: Dormant. Requires extreme cold to incubate.]

[Description: The offspring of an apex glacial predator. Immune to all cold and mind-control magic. Capable of freezing entire cities upon maturity.]

Lucifer stared at the egg.

In his past life, a Frost-Wurm was considered a myth. Entire kingdoms in the frozen north worshipped them as gods. Now, he had one sitting in a box.

"An egg?" Elara asked, stepping down into the crater behind him. She felt the intense, biting cold radiating from the chest. "The death magic of the Lich Lord mutated the drop. It produced life from a skeletal beast."

"It produced a weapon," Lucifer said.

He opened his Dimensional Vault. He carefully lifted the heavy, freezing egg with both hands and pushed it through the dark spatial rift, storing it safely in his soul space. He would figure out how to hatch it later.

Lucifer looked back into the silver chest.

Beneath where the egg had rested was a perfect, impossibly dense stack of pure white bone plates. Unlike the brittle, corrupted bone of the undead dragon, it was flawless, smooth, and radiated a faint, unbreakable aura.

[Loot Acquired: 10,000x Refined Spectral Dragon Bone]

[Tier: Mythic Crafting Material]

[Description: The ultimate lightweight armor material. Possesses innate absolute magical resistance.]

Lucifer smirked.

He reached into the chest and touched the stack of bone plating. The entire pile vanished, sucked instantly into his Dimensional Vault.

"Perfect," Lucifer murmured.

He had just secured the exact material Thrain needed. The dwarf king back at the Citadel now had thousands of pounds of Star-Metal and ten thousand pieces of Mythic Dragon Bone.

When Lucifer returned, the Aether-Forge would not just build machines; it would build unstoppable Titans.

Lucifer closed the empty silver chest. He turned around and walked out of the crater.

Elara followed him back to their mounts.

A few yards away, Sarah sat on a large piece of shattered dragon bone. She leaned heavily against her Scepter of Cosmic Alignment.

The starlight in her eyes was dim, and she looked completely exhausted, but a wide, genuine smile broke across her pale face.

"You hit it," Sarah said, her breath fogging in the freezing air.

"You held it," Lucifer replied. He gave her a firm, approving nod. "The tethers were perfect. It couldn’t move an inch."

Sarah’s smile widened. For the first time, she felt like a true part of a battlefield. She wasn’t just a captive prophet. She was the anchor that allowed the Warlord to execute a god-tier beast.

"Commander!"

Lady Scarlett rode her massive gray dire wolf through the ranks of hovering Dragoons. The mercenary captain was covered in gray ash and monster blood. She pulled up beside Lucifer.

"The eastern flank is completely silent," Scarlett reported rapidly. "My scouts checked the ridge. The Iron-Heart knights are sitting in the dirt with their hands on their heads. The undead swarm is gone. Your artillery wiped them out."

Scarlett looked at the massive pile of bone dust. She let out a low whistle. "And you just vaporized Vorthos’s pet. The men are ready to march on the gates of hell for you, Lucifer."

"Good," Lucifer said. He vaulted back into the saddle of his Nightmare Steed. "Keep the vanguard tight. Keep the healers in the center. We are pushing forward."

He looked toward the northern horizon.

Through the thinning gray fog, the jagged black peaks of the Scourgelands were finally visible. Sitting atop the highest, sharpest peak was a sprawling fortress of fused rusted iron.

The lair of Vorthos, the Lich Lord.

The boss had lost his cavalry. He had lost his Soul Siphons. He had lost his Legendary mount. He was completely out of pieces to play.

Lucifer drew his longsword. He pointed the blade directly at the distant black fortress.

"The fog is clear," Lucifer announced. His voice echoed across the valley, carrying absolute, cold finality.

"The beast is dead. Now, we execute the master."
