I reincarnated as an elf .......and married the yandere villainess.-Chapter 20:invite
The sun was sinking into the horizon casting its orange rays onto the ground below. The wind carried the smell of rot and death but the knights on horses didn’t seem fazed by the despair in front of them.
The horse’s hooves stepped through the filth on the ground. Rotting bodies and muddy soil that carried the black blood of the corrupt. Both bipedal and different types of beasts were among the beasts on the ground.
At the front of the group was a knight, dressed in silver armour and his long black hair floated behind him held behind him by a string.
On his chest was a chest. A broken leaf with a small new plant emerging from it.
The man was Helther Sunblade, Atheline’s older brother. His grim eyes gazed at the remains of the battlefield.
"This is much worse than reported."
All around him the trees that were touched by the corruption were dead and what was left was nothing but a rotting husk.
"It’s spreading through the lands," his father’s second general said his face also carrying the same grim expression.
The man, Fareth had brown hair that reached halfway down his back, a scar ran across the right side of his face and he carried the regal aura of a warrior who had been through countless battles.
At four hundred years old, he was a veteran in all manner.
"How are the warriors?" Helther inquired.
It had taken him a day and a half to arrive despite using the train. Belmont was among the last and the largest Border city before entering the dark elf territory.
"Nothing major but ten have managed to be corrupted, we’ve contained them for study. The corruption speed of infected warriors has gotten much worse; mid-rank beasts have also been infected."
He glanced at the battlefield again. Black soil, Dethom beasts that were feeding on the corpses only to be corrupted minutes later.
An arrow would fly through the air and skewer the turning beasts every once in a while. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
They couldn’t stop them as a whole since they were flight beasts that fed on corpses and had a very fast birthing rate. They were a black in colour with razor-sharp teeth that were meant to tear through bones with a body that looked like a barger with wings.
’Disgusting ’
Helther’s gaze swept through the bubbling river water but still clear despite the two corrupted banks.
On the other side was the dark elven kingdom in a much worse condition than theirs.
The corrupt were seen around the field as they roamed without a care. Occasional dark elf warriors would pass by but would not kill them instead, they would steer them back into their territory without harming them.
"Do you think the Gods are angry with us?" A random warrior at the back of the convoy whispered.
This sparked a small argument among them as they moved forward.
"Why would you assume that," another fired back.
"Because we were the only ones unaffected before it moved towards our lands or maybe those dark..."
"Be quiet... this was bound to happen eventually....corruption is caused by too much Aether nothing more i do not wish to hear about this nonsense again," Helther shut down any protest that was about to begin.
While he acted confident, he couldn’t help but let a smidge of doubt that had been disturbing him through.
’What if it’s the world tree’s doing?’
The convey slowly headed for the walled city an attempt to keep the filth from the purity that was their lands.
....
Meanwhile in the elven royal Academy inside one of the many dorms, Caius, the protagonist, looked out the window at the towering world tree but nothing came to mind.
"What are you thinking about?" His roommate also his best friend Eltham Dusk asked him in concern.
Eltham had noticed his lack of concentration in the past few days.
"I think I made a friend but I’m not sure if I should call them a friend per say," he said but his voice filled with doubt.
Eltham leaned forward in interest.
"I thought I was your only friend," he jokingly said.
Caius chuckled dryly. What he said was true, he unfortunately never really had friends and Eltham could be considered his first.
Eltham was talented in fire manipulation unlike him who barely knew his power.
"You are....but that person helped me from the Trio," he said with a ’you know who ’ face.
Eltham nodded.
"I tried to help you and you refused but now you accepted someone else’s help, who is it?"
Caius felt guarded against his inquiry. This new friendship felt sacred and he didn’t want to create any complications.
He genuinely thought Atheline was a good person.
"It’s nothing forget about that... how was your training today?"
He diverted the topic. Eltham smiled whistfully.
"It was good but Miss Delma was looking good today" he leaned forward further getting closer to him and whispered, "I heard she’s unmarried."
Caius burst into laughter at his friend’s delusions.
"You’ll never get a chance just forget about her and move on from this ridiculous. "
"You will not convince me otherwise, I’m determined to make her my life partner."
Caius sneered." Yeah and twenty other students."
Eltham’s eyes widened in mock shock and disbelief.
"How dare you..."
They both burst into laughter at that.
"Will you come to the engagement ceremony, my brother will be getting married i can send you an invitation," Eltham said after their laughter died down.
Caius paused. He had heard of the coming union between the dark elves and them.
’At least we won’t fight each other anymore’
The thought passed quickly through his mind.
"I’ll think about it, I’m nothing but a low-level elf, I don’t want to cause you trouble for my presence."
Eltham shook his head.
"You don’t have to worry about that, you’ll be coming together with my family and me, no one will even try to approach you."
Caius didn’t respond at that time.
