I reincarnated as an elf .......and married the yandere villainess.-Chapter 52:Welcome
The moment his mother stepped out of the crowd of spectators Atheline stepped forward to receive her.
This was the first time he had ever seen his mother let go of her image. She has always been proper outside unlike at home but this time it broke his heart seeing the worry in her eyes.
"My son..."
Her voice broke as she reached him, her trembling hands touching him everywhere. Face, shoulders as though trying to confirm she was alive.
"You’re..." she let out a long exhale her eyes scanning him frantically, " you’re not hurt.... are you hurt?"
Atheline glanced at Lily, who was glaring down at him. Their eyes met for a few seconds something flashing between them before he turned his attention back to his mother.
"I’m fine," he said softly while steadying her roaming hands," I’m here, nothing happened see."
That was all it took, her face scrunched up as she tried to hold back her tears. She pulls him into a tight embrace as though the world would steal him from her again.
Atheline’s gaze went to his father standing beside the king who had approached.
"You’ve returned..." his father’s voice came quietly, but Atheline could hear the relief in those words.
He nodded softly at him and smiled. He left his mother’s embrace and stepped back to Lily’s side.
Her hand wrapped around his bicep with familiarity as though declaring her hold on him. Atheline saw the change in his parents’ faces, but he turned his attention to Lily, who was clearly not pleased by the shift of his attention from her.
"So," a voice came, cutting through the moment, " You’ve finally decided to come... your majesty. "
Atheline felt his irritation rising as he turned his attention to lord Dusk. The man was just going to plummet Lily’s mood and he had to deal with the aftermath.
Lilith’s gaze studied him without a change in expression before her gaze moved to the king, dismissing him.
"Do I need permission to attend my own engagement?" Her cold voice sent chills down everyone’s back.
Lord Dusk’s jaws tightened in fury as he noticed the blatant disrespect.
"Your hand was promised to my son," he continued," before the God of light and the world tree...."
"I do not worship your God," she cut him off mid-complain," I made a vow to wed a high elf, did I specifically mention your son?"
Everyone was quiet since they all knew the truth. She had never even tried to participate in the ceremony unlike now.
Everyone knew his son had chosen as a mere formality, a bird to be thrown in a cage and forgotten.
"But..."
"I have made a different choice."
"So you think this," he said sharply," is going to end just like that."
She didn’t even look at him.
"Enough, Lord Dusk," the king interjected before he could continue," it has already been done."
He was basically being told to get over it. Lord Dusk glanced between the two, furrowed brow written in his face before he turned and left.
’Well, that’s going to be a problem’
Atheline watched him walk towards Elydrah who was also looking towards them. There was something behind those dazed eyes that Atheline noticed before he went back to normal.
Their eyes met and Atheline smiled at him. The man’s eyes widened in fear and he moved towards his father’s side and whispered something to him.
’I’ll deal with them later’
He turned his attention back to his beloved who had a tight almost painful grip on his hand.
He met the king’s eye as he studied them and held it. The king nodded towards him a flicker of understanding passing between them.
"My king," Atheline greeted respectively with a small bow.
The king nodded and turned his attention to Lilith.
"I welcome you to Athius, i hope you will have a comfortable stay."
Lilith nodded.
"Thank you, your kingdom has given me such a beautiful treasure how can I be uncomfortable?"
Her gaze settled on Atheline before it moved to his parents. His father stepped forward and bowed just a little but still respectfully. He stepped back to the king’s side.
His mother turned her gaze to Lilith. They both looked at each other, words invisible to everyone passing through them.
"Forgive me your majesty," she said softly," but I would love to ask my son for his opinion on this marriage."
A gasp spread through the hallways. Atheline felt sweat drop down his back. He wanted to push his mother back but the fierce gaze she shot him was enough to stop him.
His mother wouldn’t do anything stupid or impulsive.
’I hope’
"Do you doubt my intention with my beloved?" Lilith asked in a cold voice.
The air stilled and everyone held their breath. Atheline was just about to step in when his mother let out a small chuckle.
"No your majesty, I’m just a worried mother. Please put my heart at ease," she said calmly.
Atheline linked his hand with Lilith. She tightened her hand around his but her expression didn’t change.
"Stop it mother," Atheline cut through.
He didn’t want Lily to be put in the spotlight or have her intentions towards him doubted. Though he had been lied to by her, she hadn’t done anything drastic to warrant him pushing her away from her.
Her need for control didn’t bother him too much, it was just the start of their life and the honeymoon period would require them to spend their time together.
He will work around her control issues in their long married life to come.
Atheline took a deep breath and faced the whole elven high society.
"I have not been forced into this marriage as many of you have assumed," his voice travelled through the grand hall," I will not stand by and let anyone diminish the union that is to come or my fiancée."
Everyone was quiet as they listened to his declaration. On his side, Lilith’s grip reduced and a smile graced her face.
A public declaration of where he stood was all she needed.
Atheline didn’t care if they believed it or not.
"Let it be known, " the king’s voice cut through the Whispers, "That this union is registered under Aether laws."
A decree that sealed everything. Aether laws were the kingdom laws that were governed by the World Tree itself. Anyone who went against those laws will have their cores destroyed.
"No hand will be raised against the union in this kingdom," the king declared.
The decree felt alive as it passed through them the words sticking to the group.
This is a clear warning to anyone who tries to go against the two. A small flash passed over Atheline’s eyes at that.
