Behind him.

He fired without turning. The arrow suddenly curved midshot bending unnaturally as the wind dragged it off towards the furthest corner of the ground.

The quiet darkness reacted.

Atheline nocked another arrow and followed it behind the other one.

A hand shot out of the darkness and caught the flying arrow but before she could talk three more consecutive arrows had already reached her.

Shadows raised from the ground, catching each arrow.

A kick cut through the shadows forcing her to lean back. Atheline’s foot narrowly missed her neck. She twisted mid-lean and kicked back.

Her foot met flesh. Atheline was thrown across the room but he rolled in the air and barely managed to land, his wind providing a cushion for his landing.

He held his stomach as pain shot through his body, swallowing the blood that had pooled in his mouth, and smiled at her.

The arrows the shadows were holding exploded right after only the one she was holding had been snaffed out the moment she touched him.

"I touched you, didn’t I?" He said almost smugly.

She looked at him in surprise before looking at where he was pointing. The corner of her blue shirt had been scraped, and some of it had torn off.

Lilith burst into laughter her smile widening.

"Let’s see about that."

She rushed towards him unlike the other times when she had been creeping around him.

Shadows covered the whole space between them, fast enough to suffocate his wind that had been moving around the training ground.

Atheline couldn’t even feel its breath but he didn’t have time to ponder.

He braced himself for her, his foot slamming down on the ground. A wall of earth rose surrounding him to meet her shadows.

The wall was thin but Atheline hoped it would hold out for just ten seconds. He spread ice on the ground hoping to slow them down.

The shadows didn’t stop, as expected they adapted to his defenses.

They tore through his pitiful defences like it was nothing.

’She really is toying with me’

She was in front of him the moment his defence broke, so close he could feel her breath softly on his face.

She lifted her hand and gently brushed against his cheek. Atheline looked down to meet her gaze.

"You’ve started to improve," she said quietly.

His breath came out steady despite all the things he had just gone through.

"Thanks to you," he smirked, "I think you’re my magic pill."

She paused then smiled almost dangerously. Atheline blinked thinking he had missed it.

"Good answer. "

Her powers withdrew completely and the training ground returned to normal.

Outside the afternoon sun was becoming less and less glaring.

Since he had been inside for almost half a day Atheline felt like resting at the moment.

’A cup of tea would be nice’

They stared at each other, neither of them moving for a long time before she moved.

She turned away and walked back to the middle of the training ground.

"Again."

Atheline exhaled slowly while rolling his shoulder as he righted his posture.

He then reached for another arrow and nocked it.

’I’m going to have sore muscles after this ’

The training did not end when Atheline caught his breath. The sky had turned orange and servants whispered as they reached the training grounds.

Atheline sat on the ground without any decorum. As predicted his muscles were sore some parts more painful than others.

He heard her footsteps approach then her hands wrapped around his neck from the back. She knelt behind him placing her weight on his back.

"Do you understand now?" She whispered.

Atheline took a huge breath to calm his fraying nerves.

"Yes," Atheline nodded," you could kill me with only a flick of your finger."

She chuckled.

"Not that silly," she said, then placed a kiss on his neck," you’re getting more and more proficient but that’s not going to be enough. "

Atheline glanced back confused.

"You’ll need to be at most an S+ or above," she said her tone serious.

Atheline frowned. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"I do want to grow stronger just as fast but I cannot strain myself too much, I wanted to fully heal my core first," he said and touched her arms.

She shook her head.

"You’re taking things too literally Atheline, " she reprimanded," you’re far more talented than I, at your age, I was still a B+ running around the borders."

Atheline smiled inwardly.

He liked it when she talked about herself especially her past which was rare. She always came up with an excuse to avoid the questions.

"Really," he said admiration in his voice," at B+ I was running behind Solaris trying to get him to go to class at the academy."

He chuckled softly.

Lilith just stared at him before leaning in and taking his lips. They fell into the usual haze of lust their lips dancing against each other.

A few moments later they separated each bearing slightly swollen lips. Atheline had a cut on the corner of her lip where she had bitten her lip.

"What were you saying about...the power increase?" He asked again.

Her dazed eyes snapped back to normal and she nodded.

"Being king isn’t going to be a joke, especially for my kind," she paused, "you’ll probably be challenged."

Atheline raised an eyebrow.

"Challenged?"

She nodded.

"It’s not really a rule.." she paused before a smile came," I’ll just abolish it and anyone who tries to refuse will be killed then you won’t...."

"Hey... darling... wait, tell me more about it," Atheline turned faster than he had anticipated," I want to prove that your choice will always be the best, just give me an overview so that I won’t embarrass you."

She was quiet as she stared at him before nodding and standing up.

"Come on, it’s about time you start learning about us," she said," Klaith would be the better teacher since he knows almost everything. "

Atheline took her hand and she pulled him up.

"Klaith is one of the oldest elves," she continued, " he heads the library and knows more about things than anyone else, he was also my history teacher."

Atheline looked down at himself. He wasn’t in the best shape and Lilith always had tinted glasses so she probably didn’t notice anything wrong.

"Can I clean myself first?"

She paused looking him up and down before nodding.

"Let’s go, I also need a bath."
