Chapter 49: To Save a Queen

Back at the crater, Auren knelt in silence—his hand extended over Queen Elarya’s motionless body, blood dripping steadily from a deep gash across his palm. At his side sat the Whisker Oracle, its large starry eyes unblinking, watching with quiet solemnity.

Every time the wound began to seal, Auren reopened it without hesitation, dragging the blade across flesh again and again. The pain was sharp, persistent—but he grit his teeth and bore it.

It may have looked like madness. Maybe even suicide. But Auren knew his limits. And more importantly, he knew what was at stake.

He was bleeding to save someone important and not because he lost his mind.

"Don’t you dare die on me, queen!" he shouted in his mind while gritting through pain.

With the regenerative powers of the Golden Phoenix flowing through his veins, he could take it. At least, for now.

Each slice stung like fire, but Auren had endured far worse.Still, the growing dizziness in his head told him his body was nearing the edge.

The Oracle said nothing, but its silent presence was heavy. Watchful. As if measuring Auren’s resolve.

And then—hope.

After several minutes, something changed.

Queen Elarya’s ashen skin began to warm, the color returning to her cheeks like sunlight creeping back after a long storm. The scorched patches of her skin slowly faded, new flesh forming over the burns. Her bones, shattered and misshapen, cracked and twisted back into place. Even her hair began to regrow—slow, silken strands weaving through the shattered fragments of her crown.

Auren’s eyes widened.

"Ma...mama mia..." he whispered, barely believing what he was seeing.

Her throat moved.

Tiny, subtle gulps—her body was responding, drinking his blood with intent.

Auren could feel her presence stirring again. A soft glow began to pulse beneath her ruined armor. Life... real life... was returning to her.

His breath hitched, a small, hopeful smile tugging at his lips.

’It’s working... she’s really coming back!’

But then, the world tilted slightly. His vision blurred. His head spun as nausea crept up from his gut.

’I’m losing too much... but just a little more...’

Suddenly, a pair of voices shouted from above the crater rim.

"Queen Mother!"

"How is she?!"

Kardel and Rhiki descended fast, landing near him with urgency etched into their faces. Both gave quick, respectful bows to the Whisker Oracle, who remained motionless on its perch, observing with a strangely passive air.

Then Rhiki’s eyes locked onto Auren—and the blood pouring from his palm.

"What the hell are you doing!?" he barked, drawing his dagger.

"Why are you feeding the queen your blood!?"

Kardel’s reaction was no less alarmed.

"Since when is human blood a cure for the Queen?! Step away from her!"

They moved forward, brimming with fury.

But before either could act further, a sharp, piercing voice sliced through the air:

"SILENCE."

THUD!THUD!

Both Rhiki and Kardel dropped to their knees as if struck by invisible hammers. The ground beneath them cracked from the sudden impact, dust scattering around their collapsed forms.

Rhiki groaned, straining against the unseen pressure.

"What... what is this...!?"

"I-I apologize, Lord Oracle!" Kardel gasped, his forehead pressed to the dirt.

The Whisker Oracle, still as a statue, finally moved its tiny head.

"If you wish for your Queen to live," it said calmly, "you will not interrupt the boy again."

Despite its soft tone, the words struck like thunder in their ears.

"Only the blood of a Holy Beast can restore her body. And this human..." the Oracle paused, eyes glowing faintly, "carries it. Albeit weak, it should be enough to revive Elarya."

Neither Rhiki nor Kardel could argue—not after seeing it with their own eyes. The Queen, moments ago on the brink of death, was now visibly healing. Her breathing had returned. Her pulse was steady. Her life bar, faint but real, was climbing.

Rhiki lowered his head in reluctant awe.

A human... doing this?

Hours ago, they were on the verge of taking out this human.

But now, this same human they hunted is their only hope. Imagine if he managed to kill Auren?

He then turned to the Whisker Oracle and a deep sense of gratitude boiled inside.

Right now, they could only watch silently as Auren continued the bleeding procedure.

Both warriors, seasoned as they were, couldn’t help but feel respect stir in their hearts. The boy wasn’t flinching. He wasn’t crying. He was bleeding—voluntarily—for the sake of the elven tribes.

Then, a faint sound.

A groan.

They turned just in time to see Queen Elarya stir.

Her eyelids fluttered open weakly.

"Ugh..."

A slow, strained breath escaped her lips. Pain surged through her body like wildfire, but she was alive. Her body trembled, still healing—but conscious.

"Finally!" Auren exhaled, a full smile finally blooming on his face while being covered in sweat.

"Queen Mother!" Kardel gasped, stepping closer. Rhiki followed, joy on both their faces. Neither dared touch her yet, but their relief was palpable.

The Queen’s gaze drifted toward Auren. Her vision was blurred, but she saw him kneeling there, bleeding and pale.

"T-thank you... I owe you... my life... human."

Auren smiled shakily, eyes burning from exhaustion as he finally stopped feeding her blood.

"No big deal..." he added while wiping the sweat. He could not imagine what would happen if the queen trully died. The worst, he would be blamed and killed by the two mad leaders in front of him.

Elarya’s words—simple as they were—meant everything.

The Queen of the Elves owed him a life debt. That meant his family... will be safe starting now.

But before he could say more, a wave of piercing pain shot through his chest. His vision tilted.

Then, blackness.

"Ughh—"

He collapsed forward, unconscious. The loss of blood finally catching up on him.

Rhiki lunged, catching him just before his head hit stone.

"Oi! Don’t you dare die from a scratch, you little idiot! he growled.

He checked the boy’s palm—saw the deep, barely healing cut. His brows furrowed. That was no ordinary wound. Auren had pushed far beyond his little body’s limit.

If they could see a life bar, it’d probably be flashing red:Dangerously below 10%.

Still, Auren stirred in Rhiki’s arms.

"Thanks..." he whispered weakly.

Rhiki rolled his eyes.

"Tch. Pathetic. Can’t believe I’m being thanked by a human..."

But then, a softer tone slipped through his sarcasm.

"Still... you saved the Queen. So... thank you.. Really."

Kardel turned to Elarya.

"How are you feeling, Queen Mother?"

Elarya took a long, shaky breath.

"I... I feel better... thank you all."

Her eyes drifted toward the small creature at her side and gave a respectful bow. Bonbon simply watched her while scratching its soft fur with its hind legs.

"How did you... how did you find this place?" The queen asked Kardel while adjusting her position.

"It was all thanks to the Whisker Oracle," Kardel replied, gesturing to the tiny green Punto calmly sitting atop Auren’s backpack.

Suddenly, the Oracle turned its head toward the distance, ears twitching slightly. Like a rabbit, getting a signal of an incoming threat.

And then, in a voice that sent a chill through the very air, it spoke again.

"It’s coming..."
