I Reincarnated to Another World as a Woman-Chapter 152: Bound by Resya
"It’s really late, Jules. I know we haven’t done this for a while, but does it have to be now?" Arthur asks his younger brother.
"Yes, it does." Julian nods firmly.
"I know you haven’t told the whole truth about meeting the Baroness. Now spill." Julian grins.
Arthur’s brow shoots up. "What makes you think that?"
"Really?" Julian says deadpan.
"You were daydreaming twice. I know it wasn’t because you were tired, but because you were remembering things that are not for Mom and Dad. Don’t deny it, Art. It’s insulting." Julian pouts.
Arthur smiles and looks at Theo. "You feel the same? That I haven’t told you guys everything?"
Theo smiles faintly and shakes his head.
"No, I don’t feel it."
"Thea!" Julian exclaims.
But Theo adds, "I’m sure of it."
"Huh?" Julian frowns, confused.
"I don’t feel that you haven’t told us everything," Theo says calmly, "but I’m sure that you haven’t told us everything."
Silence.
Julian bursts out laughing. "See! Even Thea agrees! Now spill, Big Brother."
Arthur laughs.
"The things I omitted were about magic. I was planning on telling you tomorrow, but since you’re here, I’ll tell you now."
Arthur then proceeds to tell his siblings everything about the Baroness’ magic and her interest in him.
"Ew! Did she really?" Julian grimaces.
"That’s your question?" Arthur shakes his head. "Even after I explained her magic?"
He turns to Theo.
"Thea, what do you think?"
Theo blinks twice, then sighs.
"Hearing your story, I think you’re right about the Baroness’ resonance being wind. But... she’s not powerful. Far from it."
Arthur is stunned. "Far from it?"
"Theo had told me in detail what happened in the dungeon," Theo continues, "including when you went berserk."
Arthur nods. "Yeah. It’s not a proud moment for me."
Theo smiles. "You should be proud. You managed to take control of your emotions. Unchecked emotions affect magic. If you can’t control your emotions, you won’t be able to control your magic."
He pauses, then continues evenly.
"Imagine a physically powerful man who is enraged and cannot control himself. He sees red and kills someone innocent. It’s the same thing."
"Road rage is another example of an inability to control emotion."
Arthur is stunned. He never thought about it that way. He was impressed by the fact that the Baroness could use that much magic outside the dungeon, and he says so to Theo.
Theo only smiles faintly in return.
"It means nothing. It only means she’s used to the conditions out here. If she enters a dungeon, she’ll be overwhelmed by the abundance of mana. She won’t be able to control her magic, and her magic will control her."
"While us, on the other hand, if we can get used to the mana scarcity out here, and we learn how to utilize our inner mana optimally..." Theo doesn’t finish his sentence. He just smiles.
Arthur and Julian are both looking at him in a strange way. Theo notices it immediately.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
The brothers glance at each other.
"We never knew that you can explain things so clearly," Julian says.
"Just like Theo," Arthur adds.
Theo curses inwardly. I need to stop explaining things so thoroughly. But if I don’t, what if they don’t understand?
Theo gets up from the bed. "It’s past midnight. I’m sleepy."
He yawns deliberately, just to emphasize his point.
"I’m going back to my room. Goodnight."
He exits Arthur’s bedroom and makes sure not to look back.
But before he can leave completely, Julian calls out to him.
"Thea! I forgot to give you something! Please, come back!"
Theo stops, turns around, and sees Julian pulling out a pouch from his space bracelet.
Julian takes out two bracelets, one clearly meant for a man, and the other for a woman.
He hands the man’s bracelet to Arthur, and the other one to Theo.
The man’s bracelet is similar to the space bracelet Arthur already has, but this one is about half a centimeter wide, plain black in color, with silver threading woven into it. It looks elegant and understated, and it suits Arthur perfectly.
Theo looks down at his own bracelet. It is completely different from Arthur’s. It is a gold chain design, adorned with stones that look like diamonds.
"These are communication devices for the five of us. I only made five pieces. And each piece has a unique design," Julian explains. "I already sent Liam’s and Maeve’s this morning."
He then continues, showing them how to use the bracelet to communicate.
"I guess magic influences me a lot," Julian says. "If you concentrate and imbue a tiny amount of mana into it, and think about what you want to do, let’s say you want to send a text, then just think about sending a text, like this."
Julian demonstrates.
A hologram interface window suddenly appears in front of him, about the size of an A5 paper.
"Whoa," Theo mutters, genuinely shocked. His old world, Caelthorn, had never known technology like this. If Julian ever saw Caelthorn, he would probably call it an ancient world.
"You can see my interface, but you can’t actually read what’s on it, right?" Julian says. "So don’t worry about opening it in public. No one but the owner can see their own interface."
"And no one would be surprised anyway," Julian continues proudly. "I deliberately designed it to look very similar to a game interface. People would just think you’re playing games."
Julian grins.
"It works the same way if you want to call any of us, or start a conference call. And to avoid looking like crazy people talking to thin air, you tap here," he taps a specific spot on the interface, "then tap your ear, and you’ll hear the voice directly."
"And if you want to close the interface, all you have to do is this."
Julian moves his hand as if wiping something away in front of him, and the interface window disappears.
Arthur and Theo stare at the empty air for a moment, then look at Julian, then at each other, then back at Julian again.
Arthur pats Julian on the shoulder. "Wow. You’ve outdone yourself this time, Jules. This is amazing."
He immediately puts the bracelet on and tries to open the interface.
"Whoa. This is incredible. It wants me to register?" Arthur asks.
"Ah yes, that’s right," Julian nods. "After you register, that particular bracelet becomes yours and yours only. I can’t use it, Thea can’t, no one else can. It will only respond to you. I put in as many functions as I could, but I turned off the purity detection."
He grins mischievously.
Theo puts his bracelet on as well and tries it.
An interface window appears in front of him, prompting him to register.
Julian helps both Arthur and Theo through the registration process, and once completed, each bracelet becomes permanently bound to its owner.
Julian calls these bracelets the Resya Bracelets.
Theo freezes slightly.
In the magic language, resya means to communicate.
Theo looks at Julian, suspicion flickering in his eyes. Where did he get that name from? First Aegis, now Resya. He must have read them somewhere. It can’t be just a coincidence.
