I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home-Chapter 21: Recurrent Fever
"Let go. If you don’t let go, I’m going to call for help. What are you trying to do? Assaulting someone is against the law. Aren’t you afraid I’ll report you to the police?" Grace Winslow’s face was cold and grim, her tone anything but polite. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
In the past, she had been relatively polite to Ava Forrest.
After all, she was Caleb Forrest’s relative, and an elder at that.
Ever since she was young, her parents had taught her to be modest and respectful toward her elders.
But in the mere three months since she had married Caleb Forrest, this Ava Forrest had found fault with her at every turn and looked for all sorts of trouble.
Now that she was about to divorce Caleb Forrest, there was naturally no need to be polite anymore.
The hospital room was filled with the clamor.
A nurse quickly arrived, drawn by the commotion.
She saw that the back of Grace Winslow’s hand was covered in blood, and blood had already started to backflow into the IV tube.
She was instantly startled.
"What are you doing? What are you all trying to do?"
Grace Winslow’s face was pale, and she looked like she was about to collapse. "Help me. These people... they’re trying... trying to abduct me. Please, help me call the police. I don’t know them."
Hearing this, the nurse immediately became furious.
"Well, look at you! Trying to abduct a woman in broad daylight, and right here in our hospital! Don’t any of you move! I’m going to get security right now!"
With that, the nurse turned to leave.
As soon as they heard she was getting security, Ava Forrest and the others panicked.
They forgot all about Grace Winslow, turned, and bolted.
Grace Winslow collapsed onto the floor.
The nurse rushed forward to remove the IV needle. Looking at the large, swollen lump on the back of her hand, the nurse frowned deeply. "Who were those people? That was just outrageous. Where’s your family? Why isn’t your partner here?"
"I..." Grace Winslow opened her mouth to explain.
The door to the room was pushed open, and a tall figure walked in.
In her daze, Grace Winslow looked up and saw a familiar face.
The next moment, she was lifted into someone’s arms and placed on the bed.
Archer Rhys’s face was expressionless, his jawline hard and cold.
Just as he laid her down, Ava Forrest, who had gone and now returned, saw the scene and was so shocked her eyes nearly popped out of her head.
She had actually believed that Caleb Forrest was the one having an affair, bringing that vixen Ivy White home and upsetting Grace Winslow, which was what drove her to demand a divorce.
But now it was clear that wasn’t the case at all.
It was obviously this woman, Grace Winslow, who was unfaithful and already had another man on the side!
She knew it. A woman who looked like a seductress like Grace Winslow could never be faithful!
She had seen the damning evidence with her own eyes.
She didn’t have time to think, just turned and ran.
Grace Winslow was already semi-conscious.
The inflammation from her pneumonia hadn’t subsided, and after being manhandled by Ava Forrest and the others, her fever was spiking again.
The nurse’s brows furrowed, and she turned and ran to find a doctor.
With such a recurring high fever, their small-town hospital didn’t have any better medications. They had already done everything they could. If Grace Winslow didn’t improve, the only option was to transfer her to a major hospital in the city.
"Our hospital’s resources are limited. In her current condition, we don’t know if there are other underlying issues. She might really need to go to a major hospital in the city. They have advanced equipment and instruments for a more thorough examination to determine the cause of her illness."
"It’s a shame Elder Grant isn’t in the area recently. Otherwise, if he came to take a look, he’d know what the problem is right away."
Archer Rhys, who was standing nearby and listening, asked, "Elder Grant?"
The doctor realized he had misspoken and quickly shut his mouth.
Although things weren’t as strict as they had been a few years ago, the topic was still taboo. It was best not to mention it to avoid causing trouble for himself and others.
"Let’s start the IV. You, the family, can’t be careless. Someone needs to stay here and watch her. She’s very weak right now and can’t be left alone. Even if none of you can be here, you should at least have let us know so we could help keep an eye on her." The nurse glanced at Archer Rhys and spoke with some dissatisfaction.
Archer Rhys’s lips moved slightly, but he offered no explanation.
The doctor wrote out a bill and told him to go pay it.
He took the bill and left.
Soon, the nurse returned with the medication and started Grace Winslow’s IV drip.
Grace Winslow was delirious from the fever, her memories shifting between the present and her past life, constantly murmuring Caleb Forrest’s name.
Archer Rhys’s expression grew colder and colder, and in the depths of his dark eyes, not a trace of warmth could be seen.
