I Rule Fortune-Telling Livestreams-Chapter 59: Mom! I’m Really Miserable
He wasn’t sure if the AC was on in the basement, but his hair stood on end the moment he reached the first sublevel.
"Great-Grandma is really extravagant, turning on the AC even in the basement," he muttered to himself.
A cute voice came from behind him: "You’re cold too, mister? Want me to share half of my curtain with you?"
"Heh heh... Thanks..." Jin Fan reached out, his hand brushing against something icy cold. When he turned around, a pale woman in red stood before him.
Jin Fan had seen her before in the livestream; he thought she was the cleaner Shen Zhiyao had hired.
But he found it very strange. ’Why would a cleaner be wrapped in such a thick curtain?’
Not only was she wrapped in the curtain, but she was now enthusiastically tearing off half of it to drape over Jin Fan.
Jin Fan glanced at the bedsheet, thinking it looked dirty, and tactfully refused, "Actually, I don’t feel that cold anymore... Thanks, though! You may be ugly, but you’re a kind person."
Jin Fan gave Xinxin a silly grin.
The girl, who had been all smiles a moment ago, had her expression change instantly. "If you don’t know how to talk, then just shut up! I kindly offer you my bedsheet, and you call me ugly! You’re making me so angry!"
Jin Fan was about to explain when the girl’s hand twitched. Half a piece of the curtain shot out like a snake and wrapped him up like a mummy.
The girl in red leaned closer to Jin Fan, puzzled. "Why do you look better wearing a bedsheet than I do?"
As if possessed, Jin Fan said, "Maybe it’s because my family’s rich, so I can afford good skincare? Or maybe it’s just that I’m good-looking, and you’re not?"
Xinxin instantly flew into a rage. "Go to hell, you pretty boy! Why can’t I be the one with a face like that?!"
In a fit of rage, she gave Jin Fan a hard shove, pushing him into the nearby swimming pool.
Jin Fan knew how to swim, but the problem was that he was currently wrapped up like a mummy, unable to move his arms or legs.
"Help... Miss, I was wrong! Don’t go..."
Xinxin, still wrapped in her curtain, stormed off in a huff, not caring at all whether Jin Fan drowned.
Jin Fan never thought he would one day die such a pathetic death in a swimming pool. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Just then, the basement suddenly turned black and white. A multitude of leaves floated onto the water’s surface and lifted him out.
Having narrowly escaped death, Jin Fan coughed uncontrollably.
A gentle voice rang out. "Hey, are you alright? What are you doing in the water all alone? Why did you come down to the basement? Didn’t the owner tell you it was off-limits?"
Jin Fan looked up toward the voice and saw a pale-faced girl in a white dress reaching a hand out to him.
Jin Fan nodded. He was about to thank her when he noticed her feet were floating above the ground.
"Um... Your feet..." He trailed off, then it suddenly dawned on him and he started screaming, "AAAAAAH! A GHOST!"
The girl, who had been kind-faced and smiling, instantly turned cold. "I am a Goddess who has cultivated for a thousand years, and you dare call me a ghost?!"
Jin Fan was dumbfounded. "So you’re some kind of... ’godly-ugly’ ghost?!"
The girl in white instantly flew into a rage, hitting and cursing at Jin Fan. "What the hell do you know! I was the village belle back in my day! My face just got a little too pale after I died, that’s all! How dare you call me ’godly-ugly’? I’ll kill you!"
...
When Shen Zhiyao returned, she saw Jin Fan lying on the basement floor, whimpering and crying.
And the two ghosts were standing right next to him.
The girl in white said with a cold expression, "You’re a big, strong young man. I just gave you a couple of kicks. Do you have to be so dramatic?"
The girl in red snorted coldly. "Serves you right! Are you blind? Couldn’t you tell that Lele is a great beauty? How dare you call Lele ugly! You got off lightly!"
The girl in white let out a soft laugh. "Oh, well, I’m not *that* good-looking, really! When I was alive, I was just the village belle, I suppose!"
As she spoke, the sound of footsteps came from the basement stairs.
Jin Fan let out a loud WAIL and cried even harder. "Mommy, help me! The basement is full of ghosts!"
His mommy didn’t come; Shen Zhiyao did.
The moment they saw Shen Zhiyao, the two ghosts instantly reined in their tempers and hurried over to greet her.
Shen Zhiyao pursed her lips and pointed at Jin Fan, who was still bawling on the floor. "Er... Who was bullying him?"
Noticing the unfriendly tone in her voice, the two looked at each other, exchanging glances for a while before the Red-clothed Ghost finally stepped forward.
The Red-clothed Ghost hurriedly explained, "I just kicked him lightly a few times, I didn’t get rough. Actually, Lele was the one who did the most, she was the one holding him down and beating him half to death."
The white-clothed ghost was stunned. "Holy shit! Usually it’s all ’sister this’ and ’sister that,’ but you don’t care when your sister is hurting inside. The moment there’s trouble, you just throw me under the bus?!"
Shen Zhiyao said, "Hurry up and let him go!"
"Right, right, right!" The two of them hurriedly freed Jin Fan from the curtain. "We just thought he was too handsome and really wanted to play with him, that’s all. Look at this misunderstanding! Haha, it’s all just a misunderstanding!"
"Great-Grandma!" Jin Fan cried, lunging toward Shen Zhiyao.
Shen Zhiyao blocked him by the shoulders. "Stop right there. This qipao I’m wearing is new. If you get my new qipao wet, I’ll let those two ghosts finish you off!"
Jin Fan had no choice but to keep his distance, standing behind Shen Zhiyao, terrified that the two crazy women would come back to beat him up again.
The Red-clothed Ghost immediately came forward and said fawningly, "Immortal, so this gentleman is your grandson. We didn’t know! If we’d known, we would have doted on him like our own flesh and blood! We were a bit rough just now, but we were really just playing around with him!"
"He’s not my grandson, but close enough." Shen Zhiyao gave Jin Fan a cool glance. "There’s a limit to ’playing around.’ Mortals are fragile; they can’t handle you two messing with them like this."
"No, no, no, we promise it won’t happen again!" the Red-clothed Ghost promised, patting her chest.
The white-clothed ghost added, "Do you have any other grandsons? You should tell us in advance, so we don’t have our own people fighting each other."
"For now, he’s the only one who will be coming to my house. No one else will be over. And if someone does show up, they’re probably a thief. Don’t kill them, though. It’ll be a hassle if the police get involved."
As Shen Zhiyao spoke, her gaze swept over the swimming pool. She saw leaves scattered everywhere and a tattered curtain. "Who did this? Who made such a mess of the house? Clean it up, now!"
Without another word, the white-clothed ghost immediately grabbed some cleaning tools and started tidying up.
Shen Zhiyao then led Jin Fan back to the first-floor living room.
Once he came to his senses, Jin Fan couldn’t help but ask, "Great-Grandma, why are there ghosts in the basement?"
Shen Zhiyao said, "Those are Fierce Ghosts who have cultivated for a thousand years. The previous haunting at Longfeng Villa wasn’t really a big deal. It was just those two, diligently practicing Nuoxi."
"Huh?"
Jin Fan was dumbfounded. ’They were just practicing Nuoxi, so why did they beat me up? They scared the hell out of me back then, too...’
