I Transmigrated Into A Fantasy World To Farm And Build Houses!-Chapter 287: Using a Dragon as a Coolie
"Damn it!" Eric was furious. His hands were originally clean and had little destructive power, so he grabbed a lump of coal the size of a fist and chased after Arthur, intending to smear it on his face.
Arthur was no longer the teenager of similar height to Eric from the past. Since the incident with Evan, everyone seemed to have changed, and Arthur was no exception. Now, Arthur was a whole head taller than Eric.
He only needed to lean sideways to dodge Eric’s attack, and his speed was visibly faster. Eric, with a face smeared with black handprints, chased until he was out of breath but still couldn’t touch Arthur, so he had to pant and give up.
"Hmph!" Eric huffed in anger, having to use the cleansing spell on himself again.
Seeing that Eric was tired, Arthur approached, looked down at him with bright, glittering eyes, and said, "Don’t be angry anymore, I’ll let you smear me."
Eric was planning to unceremoniously smear a streak on Arthur, but felt something was wrong, so he put his hands on his hips in annoyance:
"I’m too lazy to dirty my hands again. Let’s go back quickly; I have to fire bricks today, the village is waiting for bricks to use."
Arthur stood still, a trace of disappointment flashing in his eyes, then obediently pulled the wooden cart towards the village.
Eric found an armful of dry grass, climbed to the top of the coal pile, spread it out comfortably, and sat down. The view from high up was indeed different.
This coal mine did not belong to the territory of the Hadu tribe, but because the Snow Wolf people frequently passed through to mine, the path had become a trail. On the road leading here, the presence of magical beasts had decreased significantly. Before, the Dwarves had to gamble their lives to get coal; now it was much safer.
Arthur had loaded a full cart of coal, plus Eric sitting on top, yet the speed of pulling it back was not slower than when they arrived.
When loading the coal, he had tried to stuff as much as possible onto the cart. If Eric hadn’t been afraid the wooden cart would be crushed by the coal, perhaps Arthur would have wanted to load even more, just to prove his strength was not inferior to beastmen.
Near the brick kiln, a group of kids heard the news that Eric was about to fire bricks and chirped happily as they ran over to lend a hand. Before Eric returned, they had already started moving the dried adobe bricks from the shed into the kiln.
By the time Eric and Arthur arrived, the thoughtful children had arranged the adobe bricks neatly in the kiln, just waiting to light the fire. Once the job was done, the group ran back to the adobe-making area, leaving only Honey and Leo who wanted to stay and wait for their brother for a bit. (I forgot to change her name in the previous Chapters; please remember that "Mật" (Mat) in Vietnamese means "Honey".)
The two Dwarves in charge of watching the kiln were also present. The brick kiln, which had been cold for a long time, was about to enter a cycle of burning coal day and night without rest.
Honey and Leo saw Eric and ran over happily, each hugging one of his legs and looking up.
Honey tilted her head to look at Arthur, who was black from head to toe, then turned back and said sweetly to Eric:
"Why is that brother black like my youngest uncle? Is he also a Black Python person? But my youngest uncle’s face isn’t black, it’s so strange."
Leo lightly knocked on the little girl’s forehead: "Silly, you can tell it’s coal just by looking. If you rolled around in it, you’d turn that color too!"
Honey held her forehead, feeling wronged: "So my youngest uncle is black because of that too?"
The little girl’s innocent question left Leo speechless.
"Ha ha ha, baby Honey is too cute." Eric lifted Honey up. Leo’s human form looked like a teenage boy, so picking him up would be a bit awkward, so Eric settled for rubbing his head with one hand to comfort him.
Arthur’s gaze involuntarily glued itself to the raging fire in the brick kiln. The more he looked, the more he felt his body heating up, especially in his abdomen, where a similar fire seemed to be burning.
This heat spread from his stomach to his throat; he couldn’t help but open his mouth: Whoosh, spewing out a fierce stream of fire aimed straight at the pile of fire in the kiln, causing the flames to flare up significantly higher.
Fortunately, the two Dwarves watching the fire had run to the coal pile to bring in a cartload, so their backs were turned and they didn’t see the sudden burst of fire, only assuming some kid had mischievously thrown more coal in.
"The fire is too big! Which kid is messing around!" A Dwarf, furious enough that his beard bristled, shouted loudly, looking suspiciously at Eric’s group.
Eric was holding Honey, with Leo at his feet; both children had their backs to the brick kiln talking to him, so only Eric saw the entire incident.
"Ah, don’t rush, let me make the fire smaller." He summoned a water ball to sprinkle over the flames, causing them to subside slightly.
No one noticed that his back was drenched in cold sweat.
"That’s acceptable." The Dwarf muttered and continued his work.
"You two go to the adobe-making area with your friends. If you get tired, play with everyone for a while." Eric put Honey down and rubbed the heads of the two children.
The adobe-making area was full of children, both bustling and fun. When they were tired of making bricks, they used the available mud to mold all sorts of strange shapes.
Hearing their friends mentioned, Leo and Honey got a bit excited; after saying goodbye to their brother, they hurriedly ran off to find their group.
Eric watched the two children leave, glanced at the Dwarf not far away, then clenched his fist and punched Arthur on the forehead. This guy was a dragon anyway; one punch wouldn’t hurt him.
He lowered his voice and gritted his teeth: "Why did you suddenly breathe fire? Did you remember you’re a dragon?"
"I don’t know? Am I a dragon? Turns out I’m not human... no wonder I keep feeling like I know how to fly." Arthur dazedly touched the back of his neck, then looked at his hands: "I even have claws..."
As he spoke, sharp claws popped out from his five fingers, gleaming with a cold light that looked even sharper than the claws of a Snow Wolf person.
Eric was exasperated, fearing the Dwarves would see this, and hurriedly grabbed Arthur’s hand with both of his.
In his haste, Eric’s hand almost touched the tips of Arthur’s claws. Eric didn’t feel anything, but Arthur was startled and hurriedly retracted his claws.
At this moment, Eric couldn’t help but secretly rejoice that the hearing of Dwarves wasn’t too sharp:
"Don’t transform in front of others. If my tribe knows you are a dragon, they definitely won’t let you stay. Who told your Dragon tribe to have such a bad reputation?"
Arthur didn’t remember anything, but hearing this, he felt a bit upset: "Alright then, I don’t want to be a dragon either. Being human is also very good; at least I won’t be chased away."
Not knowing what Arthur would think after recovering his memory, Eric couldn’t help but laugh, saying: "Also, you must not harm the people of my tribe. When your memory recovers, hurry up and go home." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"Didn’t you say that if others don’t know I’m a dragon, they won’t chase me away? Why do you still want me to go home?" Arthur said feeling wronged.
Eric gave up, too lazy to bicker with an amnesiac, so he waved his hand perfunctorily:
"Then it’s up to you when the time comes. Anyway, with such great strength, you can do quite a lot of work. If you recover your memory and still don’t want to leave, then staying is fine too."
This was a dragon, after all; keeping him as a coolie for himself would be perfect.
Arthur’s eyes lit up, and he nodded repeatedly.
