I Was a Loner, but My Class Got Summoned to Another World…-Chapter 419: Clash in the Republic Pt.4
Chapter 419: Clash in the Republic Pt.4
Invigorated by the flames Charlie fed it, the spirit beast grew larger once more. Hailey asked it to transform into a wyvern as well, and the creature obeyed, its form expanding until it matched the size and shape of the electric wyvern. It joined Rubina in flight before shrinking back down into its small feline shape. Perched within Rubina’s embrace, it quietly supported her, helping to maintain her mana.
Rubina soared overhead, shielding her creature, Uriel, who continued to unleash Celestial Flare. The fusion of light and fire elemental energy struck both the fireborn creatures and the demons with equal force. Its purifying effect nullified some of the energy-draining properties caused by their mutation crystals, while its brilliance blinded and seared all enemies it judged evil.
Rubina, for her part, continually used fire crystals to fuel Uriel’s strength, all while conjuring flaming shields to repel the projectiles flying toward them.
The Iron Republic’s army was far from idle. With two powerful allies distracting the strongest of their enemies, the soldiers pressed forward using water and ice magic to slow the enemy’s advance, gradually reclaiming ground as both demons and fireborn fell in growing numbers.
There were casualties on all sides. The only ones left untouched were the heroes themselves, Rubina, who remained airborne, and the four great beasts: Cinder, Scorch, the massive enemy boar, and Juggernaut.
Juggernaut, in particular, was enjoying himself. Every demon he crushed made him stronger, and every fireborn he stomped into the dirt brought him joy. Even though his massive tree club had been reduced to a charred stump, he kept swinging it with glee, bashing foes even as the weapon wore down to a third of its original size.
It roared, stomped, picked up boulders, and hurled them as if playing. It only knew how to kill in the cave—and now, it was doing exactly that, unleashing the power it had gained. At times, it even beat its massive chest like a war drum, the booming sound weakening the enemies’ morale.
Soon, it spotted the three small pebbles—humans—fighting in the distance. The two knights who belonged to its master were struggling. It recognized that they were facing one of the strongest of the enemy’s generals. Well, that one would have to be his now. His fire, along with all the others’, would be smothered by the dark energy swelling within him—an energy that only grew stronger with time.
With a sudden motion, the creature hurled the remains of its tree trunk, aiming for the fireborn’s exposed back. It missed—just barely—as the Ifrit opened a large hole in its torso, allowing the projectile to pass through. But the maneuver cost him dearly.
In that moment, Kai sliced off one of the Ifrit’s legs, and Chloe quickly tossed it away.
The creature’s body was beginning to shrink—its energy supply no longer sustained as before—and it grew desperate, enough to start drawing not only flames but life energy from demons and even its own kin.
Chloe worked quickly to isolate it from the rest of the battlefield, but her effort was interrupted by Juggernaut entering the fight. This creature did not back down, even if it had to step through lava.
It grabbed the Ifrit—who was causing both Kai and Chloe serious trouble—and hurled it toward the allied camp. Then, with a mighty leap, it jumped high into the air, landing with a thunderous crash on the spot where the fireborn leader had fallen.
Juggernaut stomped down hard. His own allies scattered, rushing to get clear. Some even tried attacking both the massive ogre and the Ifrit, but their efforts were useless. Their strikes did nothing. They were like ants trying to harm a man with pebbles.
Juggernaut kept smashing the ground again and again. He could feel lava starting to pool beneath him, and only then did he pause, glancing down before resuming.
Everyone, including Halie and Charlie, had already stepped back, giving the gorilla-like monster space.
When the dust finally settled, only a single small flame flickered beneath the rubble. Yet it refused to fade.
Then, all at once, the remaining fireborn launched themselves like rockets toward the Ifrit’s location. Chloe and Kai barely had time to react—they raised the small flame into the air with a long and well-placed pillar, keeping it away from the rest of the army to prevent casualties.
"Retreat, everyone get back!"
Above them, the fireborn began converging, merging into one mass. What remained of the Ifrit was absorbing every lesser spawn that had split from it.
It looked dangerously unstable.
And the worst part—it was happening directly above the Allied camp.
That was when Hydra intercepted the massive fireball, which had begun to shape itself into the form of a beast—a dragon like her, but with only one head and composed entirely of flame.
Hydra whipped her tail and slammed the creature toward the volcano. It was the only place suitable for such a clash. She hoped that being near the temple would grant her enough energy to outlast the enormous beast that had absorbed every fireborn on the battlefield.
With their numbers now reduced, the allied army surged forward. Charlie, no longer being suppressed or drained of his skills, began bombarding the remaining demons with relentless force. Everyone—except Scorch—focused on wiping out the demons as quickly as possible so they could assist Cindra afterward.
Scorch had pinned down the boar, the last surviving fire beast from the enemy’s side. The creature had already lost most of its vital mana, which acted like blood, and Scorch tore through it with ease once he discovered its weakness. After several devastating tail whips, its front limbs were rendered useless.
The battle was finally beginning to feel like it had an end in sight.
With one last bite, Scorch clamped down on the boar’s neck and finished it off. The massive beast exploded moments later. Scorch withstood the blast, shielding himself and his allies with his own flames. The demons, however, were not so fortunate. The explosion had occurred in the center of their encampment, leaving them without protection.
Half of their remaining forces were incinerated in an instant.
