I smelled him long before I saw him.

A brutish red wolf approached.

He was the man my father banished.

He was caught dabbling in dark magic. Believed to be a mix breed, half witch, half shifter.

No one knew, he was an orphan.

But Dark Magic was forbidden, not because it’s evil magic, magic isn’t evil, inly used for it.

But because of how its manifested and the cost of using it is unpredictable and not always paid by the user. It was outlawed long ago.

When he was caught using it he was brandished a rogue and expelled from the pack, banished to the winter mountain. Phera’s realm. The place Ezelreth was originally stored in the first stone.

My father sent the man that would free the evil into this world. The world I, his son, would inherit.

The irony of how he didn’t even know it.

Fated played us all like a fiddle.

I’d forgotten all about him. With everything happening and seeing that DarkChild bastard in my mother-in-law’s body, I’d forgotten he would be a problem.

But this fight, it was between The DarkChild and The MoonChild. It had nothing to do with me. Or with Onyx.

Though he growled at the idea of leaving her here. He knew I was right.

I turned my attention toward the rogue prick that has been a plague on my people.

Without thinking twice, I let Onyx take over completely. This was his fight as an alpha wolf.

When Ambrose relinquished control over us and let me take over. I was grateful.

I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into the flesh of that bastard of a wolf.

Saliva dripping from my teeth.

I lunged at him. His wolf pivoted at the last second, but he wasn’t fast enough, I reacted instantly to his move, turning on a dime. My jaw snapped tight. My teeth digging into the scruff of his neck. Tearing shaking him and tossing him aside like garbage. His paws skid across the dirt. Dust flying hazing the air.

His wolf snarled and I snarled back.

I released my aura. As the first wolf, all wolves obeyed me. His wolf hadn’t recognized me, at first, but now it did.

I could see him waring with his host. Fighting to bow and show respect while his human refused.

Pathetic weakling.

Either way, his wolf was too weak to control his human when it counted, he’d die for that alone.

A gold glow began emanating for me. I charged. My large paws thundered against the scorched earth.

His wolf tried to dodge again, but I pivoted predicting his moves with foresight and I collided with him, landing on top of him.

I pressed my paw hard on his face, shoving it into the dirt and snarling.

I leaned down and growled in his ears, giving his wolf one last chance to force his human into submission.

But the weak little shit couldn’t.

I sunk my teeth into his neck, pressing down hard and ripping his jugular clean out of him. Blood oozed from his wounds. His wolfs legs convulsed and twisted in human ways. The wolf gurgled it’s growls before the brown in his eyes dulled and a fish glaze was casted over them. He shifted back into his human form.

The man was dead. Naked. And missing his throat now.

I turned away head held high.

The Rogue King was dead.

Now back to my luna.

When I arrived back. Odette was panting. Out of breath and exhausted.

But still standing as breathtaking as ever.

I wanted to howl at the sight of my Luna’s strength and courage. She was marvelous and unrivaled in power.

I knew she would win against Ezelreth. I just... I’m not sure what will become of her mother. Another casualty of fate’s cruel irony.

"You are stronger than you were." Ezelreth admitted.

"She’s not here to fight you alone." I growled as I made my presence known.

But just as I was about to engage, Odette slipped in and pushed a thought through the bond.

’Don’t this doesn’t concern you. This is between me and him.’

Despite how much I wanted to protest, how much I hated obeying her. She was right. This wasn’t my fight. It was hers.

It was always meant to be hers.

And she’s trained all her life for this moment. I trust her.

So, Ambrose and I sat back growling with displeasure and observed.

Odette started to glow, a white light emitting from her. She drew from the fucking air a whole ass column, and she actually directed it toward Ezelreth’s position with everything she had and Violet’s body was suspended in mid-air inside the column while the silver light burned the darkness.

Ezelreth screamed with Violet’s voice.

And I saw Odette’s resolve crack.

Her heart shatter.

I felt the ache in her heart.

The fear she was hurting her mother.

The hesitation she held.

Ezelreth laughed with Violet’s voice right in Odette’s face.

And I felt the air shift. All the hair on my body stood straight up. My skin prickled from the sensation of raw power charging the air.

And then she fucking exploded.

Did you see that Onyx? Ambrose said in the back of my mind.

Did you feel that? I asked him in response.

That was insane.

I know. Our luna is a goddess with unparallel power.

It’s a little terrifying.

It is, so remember that next time you piss her off. She could end us both and there would be nothing we could do about it.

I almost hate how right you are.

The fight continued on. Ezelreth just mocked Odette constantly, I wanted to defend her. Pummel him into oblivion for having the audacity to speak to my woman this way.

But I controlled myself.

Only barely.

If we weren’t so afraid she’d skin us for interfering. I think Ambrose might have already taken back over and picked a fight with him.

You’re absolutely right about that.

"You cannot maintain that" Ezelreth mocked her again.

I bet she could... You chump.

"I know," she said.

Wait, what?

"You’ve been trying to fight me without fighting her," he said. "You understand that’s not a strategy. That’s just prolonged surrender."

She didn’t answer with words.
