I Was The Only Omega In The Beast World-Chapter 101: CP: One Week Before Journey
Three Months Later:
The snakelings were absolute terrors.
At three months old, they were each nearly three feet long, properly scaled, fully mobile, and possessed more energy than physically possible.
The permanent family chamber Reef had promised was now a complete disaster zone despite everyone’s best efforts:
Climbing nets hung from the ceiling (installed after the fourth-born scaled a twenty-foot coral wall and refused to come down for two hours).
The shallow pools had safety barriers (after the third-born finally learned to swim and immediately tried to reach the ocean).
Food storage was triple-locked (the fifth-born had figured out how to open two types of latches).
And there was a dedicated "time-out corner" that saw daily use (primarily for the third-born, though the first-born had been there twice for being too aggressive during play).
"They’re going to destroy this entire settlement before we leave," Alex said, watching the second-born teach the sixth-born how to hide in small spaces—a skill that seemed innocent until you realized it meant they could disappear in seconds.
"Probably," Zale agreed cheerfully.
He’d grown into his role as third mate with surprising ease over the past months—less formal now, more integrated into their family dynamic.
The babies had names now:
Jade (first-born, emerald, the leader)
Ripple (second-born, forest green, the cautious one)
Siddy (third-born, iridescent, the chaos agent)
Sterling (fourth-born, silver-hooded, the climber)
Onyx (fifth-born, midnight, the messy one)
River (sixth-born, chestnut scales, the gentle observer) ( Alex named him personally)
They’d chosen the names together—all three mates contributing suggestions until they found ones that fit. The babies had taken to them immediately, responding when called (except Siddy, who only responded when he felt like it).
"River, no," Alex said as the smallest snakeling tried to follow Ripple into an increasingly small hiding spot. "You won’t fit. Your tail will stick out."
River looked at his tail, then at the space, then back at Alex with those brilliant ocean-blue eyes—Naga’s shape, but somehow entirely his own gentle personality shining through.
He coiled obediently beside Alex instead, content to watch his siblings’ mischief from safety.
"This one’s still my favorite," Alex announced.
"You said that three months ago," Leo pointed out, attempting to coax Sterling down from the ceiling net. "And you keep saying it."
"Because it keeps being true," Alex said, stroking River’s scales. "He’s the only one who doesn’t give me heart attacks daily."
As if to prove this point, Siddy chose that moment to launch himself from a high platform directly toward the main pool—apparently convinced he could fly.
Zale caught him mid-air without even looking up from the fishing net he was mending.
"Thirty-seventh aerial rescue this month," he said calmly, depositing the wriggling snakeling back on solid ground. "We’re averaging four per day now."
"H’s getting worse," Alex said.
"He’s getting confident on his skill," Naga corrected, entering with fresh fish.
"Confident in his ability to give me a nervous breakdown," Alex muttered.
All the babies gathered when they smelled the food, opening their mouth in expectation. And Alex watched Naga with the babies and felt his chest tightened.
The fierce serpent lord who had killed unknown numbers of potential suitors, who could face down apex predators without flinching, who radiated danger like heat from a fire—
That same being now let six tiny snakelings climb all over him, use him as a jungle gym, and steal food directly from his hands without complaint.
Somehow Alex found it Beautiful.
Jade had developed a habit of coiling around Naga’s neck like a living scarf—a position of honor that he defended aggressively against his siblings.
Ripple preferred wrapping around Naga’s arm, where he could watch everything while feeling secure.
Siddy, naturally, used Naga’s coils as a launching platform for his various death-defying stunts.
Sterling treated Naga’s torso like a climbing wall.
Onyx just liked being held, regardless of position.
And River... River coiled near Naga’s heart and went to sleep, trusting completely.
"They adore you," Alex observed, watching the chaos of six babies all trying to get their father’s attention simultaneously.
"They’re my cubs after all," Naga said simply, as if that explained everything.
Over the three months, the family dynamic had settled into something that actually worked:
Naga handled discipline and training—teaching the babies proper hunting techniques (with fish), appropriate aggression levels, and serpent survival skills.
Leo managed their physical development—play-fighting, strength building, coordination exercises. He’d constructed an entire obstacle course that the babies loved (especially Sterling).
Zale taught water skills and social integration with the mer-tribe. The babies were surprisingly popular with mer-younglings, who found them fascinating. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Alex was the emotional anchor—the one they came to when frightened, when hurt, when they needed comfort. All six babies slept best when coiled against him, and River refused to sleep anywhere else.
"We should start preparing for departure," Leo said that evening, after the babies were finally asleep (Jade and Siddy coiled around Naga, Sterling and Onyx with Leo, Ripple and River with Alex, Zale maintaining contact with all of them through the water).
"Departure?" Alex repeated, the word feeling strange after three months of stability.
"The quest," Leo reminded him gently. "Three more stones. We’ve rested, the babies are strong enough now, and—"
"And I’ve gotten too comfortable," Alex finished. "I know. I’ve been thinking about it too."

"I don’t want to leave," Alex admitted quietly. "I like it here. I like the stability. I like knowing where our next meal comes from and that the babies are safe and that nothing’s trying to kill us."
"I know," Naga said softly. "But the stones—"
"The stones are still out there," Alex agreed. "And we still need them. For the sanctuary. For our future." He looked at his six sleeping babies. "For them."
Zale surfaced in the pool, his expression complicated.
"If you leave Tidehome," he said carefully, "I’m coming with you. I’ve already discussed it with Reef," Zale interrupted. "He approves. The tribe is stable, succession is secure, and I’m the second son. My absence won’t cause any issues."
He looked directly at Alex. "Unless you don’t want me to come?"
"Of course I want you to come," Alex said. "But can you even survive away from ocean water? Don’t mer-people need—"
"Salt water for scales and gills, yes," Zale confirmed. "But I can carry supplies. Waterproof containers, salt to purify fresh water. It’s manageable for several weeks at a time."
"Several weeks between ocean access?" Alex pressed.
"I’ll manage," Zale said. "For you. For them."

"This is insane," Alex said. "Traveling with six three-month-old babies and four adults. Through dangerous territories. To collect divine artifacts."
"We’ve done more insane things," Leo pointed out. "Remember the Dragon chase?"
"We barely survived that," Alex countered.
"Exactly," Leo said. "Which means everything else is slightly less dangerous by comparison."
"That’s not how danger works," Alex chuckled.
"One week," He decided. "We’ll spend one more week here preparing supplies, saying proper goodbyes, making sure we have everything we need for traveling with six babies."
"Okay," everyone agreed.
