Arc 3, Chapter 171—Something’s Not Right!!!!

The Exploration revealed quite a few surprises the Order had prepared for them. Though the extra weapons did give them a sense of urgency compared to before.

~Tick-tock. Tick-tock.

The clock on the walls of the shared room gave everyone a sense of foreboding. But then, another major issue corroded their senses.

"Dammit." Shugo held his belly pitifully. "What about food?"

Shugo’s big googly eyes looked like they were about to cry rivers. Well, he looked quite pitiful... and his rumbling belly also acted so exaggeratedly, when everyone saw ripples print on his shirt with every grumble.

’_’

Levon shook his head, as did many others, as they now focused on exploring for food. But just then, a wooden bird popped out of the clock’s makeshift doors. The bird stood beside a metallic bell.

Ding~

Its beak struck the bell 5 Times before heading back into the clock it emerged from.

"What’s going on?" Someone from the other team questioned with twisted eyebrows. But before anyone could think further, a mechanical sound bellowed from the minibar in the corner.

Well, you would expect that the minibar would be filled with drinks, but that’s where you’d be wrong. They had checked that minibar earlier and found no drinks or food... So where was that sound coming from?

"It’s from the Table!" another muttered, placing their ears on the thick square minibar table.

"There’s no mistaking it! It’s coming from with—"

Whoosh!~

Before the speaker could finish, a rectangular opening appeared on the table’s top, and out popped everyone’s eyes.

... FOOD!

"It’s hot." Levon observed, seeing as her name was on the first tray that popped out.

In the end, this was a steam engine. So it was not surprising that the food would be warm when emerging from below. Still, it’s odd that the food was cooked to perfection when they’re the only ones in the cabins.

He was sure Winhest and no staffs were here. So how did they keep the food in perfect condition?

—But then again, there are so many magical creatures and never-seen-before substances in the Order’s Turf. So who knows how they did it?

Levon shrugged, taking his tray calmly.

"Buddy... you have another one with your name on it!"

"Another one?" Shugo’s voice made Levon freeze.

2 trays for him? Well, okay.

Levon took his second tray, only to realize there was yet another smaller tray for him... this one was mostly filled with beverage options from tea to milk and juice.

Hey... Levon shook his head wryly.

Up next was Artilla. She had 5 trays to her name. One shouldn’t forget that the girl could eat.

Leo was next with the same tray number as Levon. Rayna also had the same... but Shugo had 4.

Levon squinted his eyes deeply. ’It seems the food is dished out based on rank and strength.’

Perhaps they’re following the strength order from the Phase 1 competitions?

Levon tilted his head, drawing such conclusions.

Everyone from his team took their trays, heading for the biggest out of the many dining tables around. Who can they blame for getting so much food?

As they ate, they watched as the other team took their trays... Emphasis on the word Tray(s)... So tragic.

The strongest of these guys was given 2 trays.... Or should they say 1 and a half tray. He had 1 full tray, and a second tray that was even smaller than Levon’s 3rd tray.

As for the rest of his group, they either had 1 full tray... or half a tray of food. That’s right, there were some that were just half a tray of food.

While others carried long rectangular trays, they carried small square trays filled with just 2 bowls of food.

Know that the full capacity of one rectangular tray can carry 5~7 dishes. Ever since they became supernaturally strong, their appetites also increased.... With many gulping and swallowing 5~7 dishes of mountainous bowls of food in a flash.

What? Do you think the mountain rice in just one of their trays was enough?—Impossible!

As if they’ve been starving for eons, they lifted the gigantic bowl of rice after savoring its fragrance. Then, as if devoid of table etiquette, they gulped and chewed... gulped and chewed to no end.

For a moment, both groups were thoroughly engaged in shoving their mouths with delicious food.

"It’s so good!"

"Dammit, my kidney is about to explode with how good this pineapple juice is!"

"Hey... hey my only regret is that it’s too little."

"Hmph. Lucky you, you at least had a full tray of food. But what about me? I only had a square... with one bowl of rice, and one bowl of well seasoned meat. Luckily, they were merciful to serve my rice with sauce already poured on it. But look, that’s all I’ve got... a cup of water."

"Damn, it sucks to be you."

"That’s right, that’s right... It sucks to be me. So why don’t you share your Blueberry Muffin with me?"

"Bah! Forget it! I ain’t sharing a Goddamn thing! I’m starving here woman, so don’t you dare think of my Muffin!"

"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah."

...

With food, everyone suddenly felt more energetic than before. However, there was still obvious jealousy in the eyes of the weaker group after seeing how luxurious and plentiful the trays of Levon and his group were.

Please... Just look at how their food was dressed, and then compare it with how Levon’s food was presented.

Could this be the difference between a Pauper and a Richman? The cutlery on Levon’s tray was beautiful and golden. But theirs was twisted with bent edges, with aging of rust in some corners too.

Unwilling! The weaker group felt the anger in their hearts grow ten times more. But what can they do?

Drm-Drm-Drm-Drm~

The train’s steady movements, added to the heightened feeling many got when looking at the setting sun.

Looking at the Clock on the wall, the time showed 8:36 PM. The land through the windows was still illuminated, with a picturesque hue... so captivating, that it made them sigh.

Levon looked at the clock on the wall again, knowing that they’ve been eating for a little over an hour now. It wasn’t 7:15 PM that the clock struck for Supper.

’So does it mean that supper will begin every evening at 7:15?’

It wasn’t just Levon who noticed this. Everyone secretly made note of the time, lest they miss their meals.

Artilla frowned. "We’ve been here all day, but didn’t get Lunch."

"Tough break Arty," Rayna shrugged. "Means they don’t plan to feed us in the afternoons."

Artilla nodded with an expressionless face. Truthfully... it’s not Lunch she was worried about, but breakfast!

Sorry, but she took breakfast as one of the most important meals of the day.

They say failing to prepare, is in itself, preparing to fail.

On the eve of any of Winhest’s classes, she would go to the cafeteria on the eve and fill her pockets and thatched basket with as many muffins, cakes and pastries as she could.

It’s precisely because she didn’t know if she would be fed breakfast, that she held herself back and didn’t eat the patties on the trays before her.

Hiss~

Many from the other team sucked in their breaths, worry plastered on their faces when looking at their empty trays.

Dammit, why didn’t they think of saving something for later?... Well, it was too late now.

Many shook their heads wryly.

It was 8:47 PM now. And from the setting sun, they figured they had about 25 more minutes before the darkness completely covered the land.

After the Supper all that many could think of was taking a bath. They felt a little sweaty, despite not moving about much today. Just sitting by the windows and allowing the sun to heat up their bodies was enough to cause one to perspire.

Although they could control their shard’s innate energy to help them feel cool, why would they want to do so and drain their strengths when they weren’t in battle and were only sitting still on a trip?

—Bath time!

Each group had their own bathrooms, albeit Levon’s group had the most luxurious one with a bathtub and a tower. And inside the shower, was a slab where 3 people could sit spaciously, and allow the jets of water pour over them.

So good...

The boys allowed the girls, Rayna and Artilla, to take their baths first. Following this, Shugo, Leo and Levon headed for the baths.

Soon, the group felt refreshed, putting on their PJs and ready for bed. They had to admit that the day, although seemingly simple, was quite an exhausting one that left their bodies heavy.

...

~Tick-tock. Tick-tock.

Time flowed by like a witch’s spell. And before everyone knew it, many began snoring... and so did Levon.

Everything was calm... and everything was quiet. But soon—

~SWISH

Levon’s eyes shot open without warning. He heard it... "Something’s NOT RIGHT!"
