Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 113: She Fell in Love
Frances Bennett walked up to Sharon Quincy and viciously slapped her across the face.
SLAP! Sharon Quincy was hit so hard she saw stars.
"This slap is my payment for introducing you to high society, but even beating you to death wouldn’t be enough to quell the hatred in my heart." Frances Bennett’s eyes were red as she stared daggers at her.
After finding out that Sharon Quincy wasn’t Selina Nathan, all the old women in the socialite circle were laughing at her.
The persona she had painstakingly cultivated in that circle was completely ruined.
If the Hawthorne Family didn’t go through with the marriage alliance with the Nathan Family now, they would become the laughingstock of all of Korsyth.
But if she let Damian marry this Sharon Quincy, she would never be able to rest in peace.
"Auntie, hitting me is useless. I told you I’m Linden Nathan’s daughter. A goddaughter is still a daughter, isn’t she?" Sharon Quincy clutched her face, clenching her jaw. "Besides, I didn’t cause all of this. Wasn’t your own greed a part of it, too?"
"Shut your mouth!" Frances Bennett’s shoulders trembled with anger, her lips quivering like a leaf. "You’ve made me lose all face in the entire Korsyth socialite circle, and you still have the nerve to bring up a marriage alliance with me! With your status, you’re not worthy of Damian at all."
Sharon Quincy laughed mockingly. "I’m not worthy... Then... what about Cecilia Nathan?"
’Damian Hawthorne doesn’t know Cecilia Nathan’s true identity, and there’s no way Frances Bennett would know either.’
At the mention of Cecilia Nathan’s name, Frances Bennett said, her expression dark, "Her... her status isn’t worthy either, but her character is better than yours. Don’t try to drag others down. Our Damian won’t just marry anyone."
"Hahaha, you say that as if your son actually listens to you. You can’t even decide who he wants to marry, can you?" The thought of Frances Bennett rejecting Cecilia Nathan made Sharon Quincy find the situation hilarious.
’If Frances Bennett ever finds out Cecilia Nathan’s true identity in the future, I wonder if she’ll regret it to no end.’
’Thinking of this gave Sharon Quincy a thrill of revenge.’
"He’s my son. Of course, a matter as important as his marriage needs my permission," Frances Bennett said, though she lacked conviction.
’Who Damian Hawthorne wanted to marry was indeed not something she could control. This son of hers didn’t listen to her at all.’
Sharon Quincy recalled what Serena Hughes had said.
’Damian Hawthorne had been waiting for a woman named "Luna."’
’As soon as this woman returned, everyone else would have to step aside.’
’This woman was just a caregiver—no match for her, no match for Serena Hughes, and certainly no match for Cecilia Nathan.’
’If Frances Bennett knew her son would end up marrying someone like that, she’d probably die of anger.’
"Then I’ll just wait and see," Sharon Quincy said, her tone full of glee at the prospect of watching a good show.
’She didn’t like Frances Bennett either.’
’No one likes a snob.’
Sharon Quincy’s words completely infuriated Frances Bennett. She glared viciously at Sharon and asked, "Was impersonating Miss Nathan your idea or Linden Nathan’s?"
"It was mine."
Without a second thought, Sharon Quincy took all the blame.
"Good. Very good." Frances Bennett suddenly smiled. "Didn’t you want a marriage alliance with our Hawthorne Family? I’ll grant your wish."
Sharon Quincy’s eyelid twitched. "What are you planning to do?"
"To make your wish come true, of course."
"I... You’re still willing to let me marry Damian Hawthorne?" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Of course not." Frances Bennett gave a sinister smile. "Our Hawthorne Family doesn’t just have Damian. There’s also Damian’s uncle, who’s getting on in years and still isn’t married."
Hearing this, Sharon Quincy finally understood.
The Hawthorne Family had an old bachelor, nearly fifty and still unmarried. Rumor had it that he had issues with his sexual orientation.
This man was Damian Hawthorne’s uncle, and he was also adopted by Damian’s grandfather back in the day.
Although he was called his "youngest uncle," he wasn’t young at all.
CRASH! Sharon Quincy smashed the cup in her hand. "I’m not delusional, and you shouldn’t be either. I will not marry him."
"That’s not up to you to decide," Frances Bennett said, her face grim. "Your Nathan Family has caused me this much humiliation. You have to give me an explanation. I believe Linden Nathan, for the sake of your lifelong happiness, will consider this matter carefully."
After saying this, Frances Bennett looked as if she had just won a great battle. She shot Sharon a triumphant glance before leaving with her designer bag in hand.
Sharon Quincy clutched the duvet cover, her face so pale it was drained of all color.
"No... Godfather wouldn’t do this to me. Right, he wouldn’t..."
Yet, the more Sharon Quincy thought about it, the more terrified she became.
’She didn’t know how long she could hide what she had done to Cecilia Nathan.’
She looked at her other, paralyzed hand, a hint of regret on her face.
’If Cecilia Nathan had died in that crash back then, would she even have to worry now?’
At this thought, Sharon Quincy’s regret intensified.
’She knew how important Cecilia Nathan was to Linden Nathan.’
’Although Linden Nathan believed her now, she didn’t know how long that trust would last.’
’I hope... I hope Linden Nathan doesn’t agree to Frances Bennett’s demand...’
「Korsyth City Center, Melodia Pianos.」
Cecilia Nathan stood at the entrance of the piano store, a slight smile on her lips.
’She and Hugo once had a small dream. They wanted to open a piano store and run it as a charity. They would let people who couldn’t afford music lessons or instruments come in and play, and even offer them instruction.’
’Melodia. A melody to bring joy.’
’Now, she could finally face her past with peace.’
The thought that Miles Sinclair was still alive brought tears to Cecilia Nathan’s eyes.
Hugo Grant stood not far away, holding a bouquet of fresh flowers.
"President Grant, Miss Nathan looks like she’s in love," Hayley Shepherd said, a hint of teasing in her voice. "I really thought you and Miss Nathan would get together. I never expected her unforgettable first love, Miles Sinclair, to pop up out of nowhere."
’Talk about competition. Her boss didn’t even seem to have a fighting chance.’
’Miles Sinclair was the first love, Damian Hawthorne was the passionate love... so what was her boss?’
’The more Hayley Shepherd thought about it, the more she pitied her boss.’
’He was clearly handsome, yet all he could do was wait in silence.’
’When would Miss Cecilia Nathan finally give her boss a second glance?’
"Have you found out anything about that Miles Sinclair’s background?" Hugo Grant asked, his gaze falling to the sunflowers in his hand, his expression as cold as ever.
Dressed all in black, he stood in the alley, looking as if he were one with the mottled, ancient city wall.
"Nothing. The police files show that Miles Sinclair is already dead. But for some reason, we can’t find anything about this Miles Sinclair from before he became a star; only things after." Hayley Shepherd raised an eyebrow. "Is there something wrong with this Miles Sinclair?"
Before Hugo Grant could speak, a car suddenly pulled up at the entrance.
A bright yellow Ferrari sports car was parked brazenly in the middle of the road, drawing a lot of attention.
Korsyth had no shortage of rich people, and luxury cars were common in the city center, but there were only a few sports cars of this caliber in the entire world.
The car door opened, and a man in a white shirt and sunglasses stepped out.
At six-foot-one, with long legs and a narrow waist, his proportions were comparable to a model’s.
Even with the sunglasses on, the lazy aura he exuded was still captivating.
The man pulled a black mask up over his face, hiding his high-bridged nose, then shoved his hands in his pockets and swaggered inside.
"Damian Hawthorne?" Hayley Shepherd suddenly smiled. "It seems that ever since Miss Nathan moved out of the Hawthorne Family’s house, Damian Hawthorne has started chasing after her."
