Ignored When Chasing: Why Cry After I Got Engaged-Chapter 126: Lied
Miles Sinclair looked toward the door.
Serena Hughes was wearing a long, knee-length down jacket. A fluffy hood framed half of her face, revealing a fair, cute little face.
She blinked her large eyes, carefully sizing up Miles Sinclair.
When she saw Miles Sinclair look at her, Serena Hughes walked right up to him confidently. "Hello, Mr. Sinclair."
"Hello." Miles Sinclair was a little confused. He turned to the station director. "She is...?"
"Oh, this kid is a fan of yours. Her grandmother and I are friends, so I thought I’d introduce you." The station director chuckled and looked at Serena Hughes. "Serena, do you want an autograph too?"
Young girls these days love to chase celebrities, especially these rich girls who pull all sorts of strings just to meet these rising stars.
The station director thought Serena Hughes probably just wanted a photo or an autograph.
However, Serena Hughes didn’t play by the rules.
"Mr. Sinclair, did you know that Cecilia Nathan was pregnant before?"
Serena Hughes’s single sentence plunged the room into a stunned silence.
The station director froze for a moment, then instinctively looked at Miles Sinclair. "This..."
Miles Sinclair’s expression instantly turned cold.
Serena Hughes continued, "She’s been pregnant. Do you still want to be with her?"
"To be precise, she had an abortion. For Damian Hawthorne." Serena Hughes enunciated every word clearly. "She loved Damian Hawthorne so much. If you get together with Cecilia, you’ll just be the third wheel in their relationship."
The station director finally realized what was happening. This Serena Hughes didn’t want an autograph or a photo—she was here to cause trouble.
His face ashen, he snapped, "Serena Hughes, what do you think you’re doing?"
Serena Hughes gave him a look of feigned innocence and shrugged. "I’m just giving him a heads-up so he doesn’t get deceived."
Miles Sinclair stood up, his handsome face dark as a thundercloud. His voice was low, laced with a hint of displeasure. "I didn’t expect that besides discussing a partnership, the director would have such a big surprise for me today."
"No, that’s not it, Mr. Sinclair! I had no idea she would say something like this." The station director’s eyes were red with anxiety.
Miles Sinclair had immense commercial value in the entertainment industry right now. No one would be foolish enough to offend him.
Serena Hughes studied Miles Sinclair’s reaction, her mind racing.
"Mr. Miles Sinclair, if you want to know more about Cecilia, feel free to ask me. I’m only warning you because I don’t want to see you get played." Adding fuel to the fire, Serena Hughes coaxed, "If Cecilia really liked you, would she have ended up with Damian Hawthorne? He swooped in and took your place, which just goes to show she never really loved you. She thought you were dead, and not even a year later, her affections had shifted. Mr. Miles Sinclair, are you really okay with being replaced so easily?"
"Whether I’m okay with it or not is none of your business." Miles Sinclair’s gaze was sharp as ice.
Having said her piece, Serena Hughes cheerfully skipped away.
After she left, the station director hurriedly and awkwardly explained, "I thought she just wanted your autograph. I had no idea she would say things like that..."
’Cecilia Nathan... isn’t she Damian Hawthorne’s rumored girlfriend?’
’She’s also good friends with Chloe Sutton, one of our station’s hosts.’
"Do you know Cecilia Nathan as well, Mr. Sinclair? One of our hosts recommended her musical work to us before. She’s a very talented young woman."
Before hearing Cecilia Nathan’s violin pieces, he’d always thought she was just a love-obsessed girl who liked to stir up drama. He never expected her to be so talented.
The station director’s praise did nothing to improve Miles Sinclair’s expression.
Serena Hughes’s words had still gotten to him.
"Mr. Sinclair, about our partnership today... shall we continue...?"
"I’m not in the mood to discuss a partnership. Director, let’s leave things here for today. If your station has a program that interests me in the future, I’ll come by again." After saying this, Miles Sinclair walked out without a backward glance.
Hearing this, the station director’s face went blank.
He hadn’t expected Miles Sinclair to reject the partnership so decisively.
Only after Miles Sinclair had left did the station director realize that Serena Hughes had ruined everything.
At this thought, the station director quickly sent a message to Fiona Sinclair: Your granddaughter just sabotaged my deal. Get ready for a lawsuit for damages.
Just as Miles Sinclair was leaving the TV station, he ran into Chloe Sutton.
Chloe Sutton stood there in her slender high heels, her presence sharp and imposing.
"Mr. Sinclair, do you have a moment to talk?"
Miles Sinclair put on his sunglasses and parted his lips slightly. "Sorry, I don’t."
"Are you the real Miles Sinclair or a fake?"
Chloe Sutton’s question stopped Miles Sinclair in his tracks. Then, without turning back, he strode away.
Seeing his reaction, Chloe Sutton let out a heavy sigh.
Although she wanted her friend to find happiness soon, she never imagined she would find her happiness from the past.
When Cecilia Nathan received Chloe Sutton’s message, she didn’t feel much of anything.
She was in her music shop, attending to a new customer.
Business was good today. Although she didn’t rely on selling instruments to make a living, many people came in to buy them today.
"Cecilia, the real reason you pursued Damian Hawthorne... aren’t you going to tell Miles Sinclair?"
Seeing the message from Chloe Sutton, Cecilia Nathan’s hand paused as she scrolled through her phone.
’The real reason she pursued Damian Hawthorne.’
Cecilia Nathan closed her eyes.
If it weren’t for the things that happened after Hugo’s death, she never would have pursued Damian Hawthorne for so long.
She thought Hugo was dead.
"Cecilia, do you really not like Damian Hawthorne anymore?"
Chloe Sutton’s question rang in Cecilia Nathan’s ears like an alarm bell.
She had chased Damian Hawthorne for so long that everyone assumed she was in love with him.
But only a few people knew that it wasn’t him she liked.
Cecilia Nathan was still trying to figure out how to reply to Chloe Sutton when she heard a soft voice call, "Cecilia."
It was Miles Sinclair.
At some point, he had sent everyone else in the music shop away.
Miles Sinclair looked at her with a gentle gaze. "What’s wrong? You look so troubled."
Cecilia Nathan looked at the face she had dreamed of so many times, and her nose began to tingle.
"Hugo, can you tell me what’s happened to you over the past few years?"
A hint of a smile touched Miles Sinclair’s eyes. "What’s this about? Haven’t I told you already? I’ve been abroad this whole time. Besides a few classmates, I’ve barely interacted with anyone."
"No girls you liked?"
Miles Sinclair’s eyes flickered slightly, and then he chuckled. "Ah, so that’s what Cecilia wanted to ask."
"I only spent time with men while I was abroad. I was so worried you’d get jealous that I didn’t get to know a single woman."
Hearing this, Cecilia’s heart sank a little.
’Hugo had told her he would never lie to her.’
’But the Hugo of today had learned to deceive her.’
"What is it, Cecilia? You’re the only girl I’ve ever liked, from the time we were children until now. I could never like anyone but you." After he finished speaking, his eyes glanced at the photos on her desk.
The photos looked vaguely familiar.
"Cecilia, whose photos are these on the desk?"
With that, Miles Sinclair started walking toward the desk.
Those were the photos she had left on the desk, not having had time to put them away yet.
