Chapter 445

The squire and his family were going to move to another house, but Mu Mingtang couldn’t bear to ask the host’s family to make room for them, so she declined that offer. Instead, she insisted that she would only occupy one or two rooms at most.

She only brought 5 servants with her this time whilst the rest stayed in the palace. Those people were originally from the palace, anyway. Even if the Emperor expressed his anger, he wouldn’t vent his temper on those servants. Hence, Mu Mingtang left them to fend for themselves in the palace.

In addition to the 5 servants, the little Taoist priest also followed. This was a natural move for the couple as Xie Xuanchen was cured all thanks to the little Taoist priest. Neither Mu Mingtang nor Xie Xuanchen would cross the river and burn the bridge whilst leaving the little Taoist priest alone in the capital. Besides, Xie Xuanchen was out on the battlefield, so military doctors are indispensable.

After the little Taoist priest left the capital with all his hair and body parts intact, he let out a sigh of relief.

The 5 maids unloaded the tables, carpets, curtains and other items from the carriage. While decorating the house, they complained that the house of Squire Zhao’s family was too small and cramped, which was truly a bad place for the Princess since she would have to suffer. Mu Mingtang frowned when she heard this and said, “We are travelling here. Thanks to the Zhao family for providing us with a shelter from the wind and rain, it’s already a given that we express our utmost gratitude, so why would you still want to be picky? Don’t say these words again. When we get out of this room, you have to watch yourselves as well so that you do not bring trouble to your masters.”

The servants lowered their heads after being scolded by Mu Mingtang, including Nono. In just a few moments, Squire Zhao’s house was transformed into a completely new one. There was a Suzhou-style embroidered screen between the inside and outside of the room. The beds in the inner room were all filled with bedding and tents brought by the palace. Over the screen was a sitting couch and a tea table with a thick and luxurious bed beside it. It wouldn’t even be cold in the winter if the Princess slept in there.

When the wife of the Zhao family came with her daughter to pay her respects to Princess An, as soon as she entered the door, she was stunned by the scene in front of her.

Was this… still their house? The servant went inside to report to Mu Mingtang before she came out and opened the bead curtains for Madam Zhao and Young Lady Zhao, “The Princess has invited you in.”

Mother Zhao accepted the servant’s service with some trepidation. When she walked inside, she became more dizzy and felt that she couldn’t keep her eyes off the additional decor in the house. Young Lady Zhao, who was following her mother, was also very surprised. She wanted to look around as well but didn’t dare to do so.

Madam Zhao and Lady Zhao greeted Mu Mingtang according to the instructions of the servants outside. Mu Mingtang sat sideways on the seat and when she saw them, she waved her hand, “Madam Zhao and Young Lady Zhao, please rise and come sit down.”

Madam Zhao could no longer bear her curiosity and secretly raised her eyes to look at Mu Mingtang. It turned out that this was the Princess of the capital. She was as beautiful as a fairy in a painting and her voice was pleasant.
