Chapter 190: Leave It to the Experts

The forest was a nice change of pace from the bustling city.

The air was fresh, the sun was beautiful, and Evelina was in my arms. What more can a man ask for? It’s like when I was first transported in this world.

Still marvelling at the beauty of everything.

"Time passes by so quickly~."

I hummed while continuing to walk. I guess I underestimated the distance outside the silencing field a bit. But... something slower paced wasn’t really a bad thing. It just meant I had more time to enjoy this.

"The elves, huh?"

Patriarch Loran III, if the plot were still following the original novel, he should have been the one still in charge. But considering they attacked the royal aircraft we were riding in...

That meant Patriarch Viserys had taken over, a more warlike leader with an intense hate for humanity.

His hatred was valid, though. I’d feel the same way if some upstart species suddenly started expanding and taking over my territory.

The problem was... I’m not an elf, so while I think his hatred is justified, I can’t bring myself to really care.

As long as his war doesn’t touch mine or Evelina’s plans, he’s free to do whatever he wants without so much as a peep from me.

Though... considering the land we’ll be guarding is near the border, I guess it will make us a lot busier...

Maybe I should do something about it.

Ugh...

Right, I no longer had profaned magic. Can’t be as careless as I was before. I might be more powerful than most of elvenkind right now, but I sure as hell can’t just wander into their capital and eliminate their leader.

I should at least unlock more of the amulet’s potential before I go fighting against a hundred people again.

[Dark Step]

The moment I reached the edge of the silencing field, I found an entire camp of mages and soldiers waiting for me—and at their head was...

Azrael and Corvus...

Of course, they’d come.

"Isn’t that, Arden?"

Corvus saw me first, his arms clasped behind his back like always. He looked dramatically bored, as if this were just an inconvenience instead of an open act of war from the elves.

"Not only that..." Azrael replied, seeing Evelina in my arms. "Don’t waste time, escort them out of here!"

He shouted, waving his arms as he sent in the power-armored soldiers to get us both out of the danger zone. It seemed he and Corvus already knew about the existence of the silencing field.

That’s the only explanation I have for why they haven’t gone in yet.

"We’ll handle everything here for now. I’ve left you assignments for when you’re escorted to your new estate."

"Assignments? After being blown out of the sky?"

"You don’t seem injured, and Lady D’Arclight seems comfortable in your arms. You two are more than capable enough to continue in your academic pursuits."

I didn’t get a chance to reply as a vehicle was teleported in. The soldiers eased us inside and immediately moved to leave elven territory. Everyone was in a rush—or more like... they just didn’t want anyone caught in the crossfire once Corvus and Azrael unleashed their power.

"Do you know about the two lords’ whereabouts?"

"Yeah, some elven city called Faey."

The soldier didn’t even bother saying thank you or nod. He immediately grabbed a transceiver and relayed the information to what seemed to be Azrael on the other side.

If I had to guess, I’d say they’re about to do something equivalent to dropping a nuclear bomb on Faey. They had it coming, I guess...

Out of all the targets, the elves really had to target one that literally had the main characters on board. I almost feel bad... almost.

*** Azrael and Corvus - Third Person POV

"This is going to be a nightmare to explain to the emperor."

Azrael pinched the bridge of his nose. Of all the aircraft the elves could have attacked, it had to be the one carrying the kingdom’s and empire’s most influential heirs.

This wasn’t random. It had to be planned. There was no way the elves just got lucky and shot down a high‑value transport like that.

"They didn’t need to send the two of us."

Corvus leaned against Azrael’s shoulder with a tired sigh. He was right. The two of them together were overkill—either one alone could destabilize a nation.

Let alone a non‑capital city like Faey.

"After your defeat against Arden, I’m not letting you relax that easily. You’re getting rusty."

"I was just playing around, you idiot! Did you really think I was serious during that fight?"

"That’s not an excuse."

They bickered like a married couple, drawing quiet laughs from the armored soldiers and mages who were setting up the camp in preparation for the imperial princes’ rescue.

Right now, this was still considered a small operation. For all they knew, it might just be the work of some rebellious elves. Maybe the elven kingdom hadn’t completely lost its mind and declared full‑scale war.

"Let’s get going."

Azrael spoke, and with that single command, everything in front of him froze in a cone‑shaped area. Corvus refused to be outdone; he drew twin daggers from dark portals that opened beneath his robes.

"Show‑off."

"Shut it, Corvus."

Corvus laughed at Azrael’s annoyed reply. With a flick of his wrist, a surge of darkness burst from his robes, billowing forward as thick smoke toward the silencing field—the barrier they had to cross before entering Faey.

And how were mages supposed to break into a place designed specifically to shut down magic? Simple.

By brute force.

"Do you think that’s enough to overwhelm their magic?"

"More than confident."

Azrael stepped forward first, and Corvus’s confidence proved justified. Even while standing inside the silencing field, Azrael could still use magic.

"Well... let’s have fun."

Azrael grinned. He didn’t want to admit it, but it had been a long time since he’d felt this eager to go all out on such a large target.
