Chapter 142: Preparation

The sound of heels echoed in the hallway as two women, one wearing a white lab coat and the other wearing a skin-tight black outfit, walked by.

"What do you think of the results?" Veronica asked.

Olivia seemed to think for a moment before replying with an unsure expression, "I don’t really know the exact effect Zen’s results would have on our ongoing research, but I feel that it will be quite big."

"I agree, but I think the word ’big’ is an understatement in and of itself...’

"Really?"

"Yes. These results... Zen isn’t just a superhuman— No, I don’t think he can still be compared to other humans... Maybe... just maybe... if there’s a god, or maybe even the demigods in legends, they would be just like him."

"That... Isn’t that too outrageous to say?" Olivia said, her eyes widening in shock.

However, Veronica merely shook her head, "Not really. All the devices in the lab were state-of-the-art technology that was the result of our countless years of research that aimed to make use of the magical meteorite’s strange power, or— as Zen called it— mana."

She glanced at the clipboard in her arms and continued, "However, even then, it was not able to fully measure his body’s capabilities."

"He said earlier that he needed to control his energy so that the output would not be too much for the devices, right?" Olivia recalled what Zen had said to them earlier.

Remembering the young man’s apologetic expression as he worried that he damaged the lab equipment, the two could not help but laugh at his silliness.

However, in the next moment, Veronica’s expression became solemn, "That’s right. It can only mean that the data in our hands was the result of him holding himself back by a lot, since just his normal state had already caused the lab equipment to be on the verge of shutting down."

At this moment, the two of them had just parted with Zen as they were on their way towards the conference room where Ren and the others were.

As Zen consented to his information being seen by his parents and their colleagues, Veronica and Olivia had been preparing how they would report their findings.

After all, the subject of the experiment was Ren and Rina’s son, so they could never speak carelessly.

As they thought of the possible consequences from doing so, the two could not help but shiver as a nervous expression crept up on their faces.

Meanwhile, in Zen’s private room...

"Ugh, I’m finally back!"

He said out loud with a happy tone, unafraid of others outside hearing him due to the excellent soundproofing of his place.

"Since Teacher told me to prepare at least seven days straight of training, I still need to write some notes for Mom, Dad, and Sera..."

Zen hummed happily as he sat at his desk and began writing.

Although he felt as if he could no longer wait to enter the game again, he decided to be patient as he did not want others to worry about him.

’I wonder what my rewards would be..."

Thinking of the rewards Arthur promised him, Zen could not help but daydream of the possible grades of his rewards.

’Maybe a top-tier legendary? Or... Or maybe even a mythical grade!?’

He smiled from ear to ear as he kept writing.

Although he had already told Veronica and Olivia earlier that he would need at least three to four days to himself, which they would surely tell Ren and Rina, he did not tell them many details.

Thus, Zen wrote page after page of what he planned to do in the game, as well as a more detailed version of what he told his aunties earlier.

"Speaking of the game... I wonder how Nana’s doing."

After the first time she had entered the Free World, both he and Sera had not been able to speak to her about it since, so they could only hope for the better.

"Well, there’s Dad, Mom, and our Aunties and Uncles, who would surely be there for her..."

Zen spoke out loud as the sound of his writing echoed quietly in his room.

’Hm, come to think of it. Unlike the games I normally play, the skills in Free World don’t indicate the mana expenditure and its cooldown... I think Imma need to ask Teacher about it.’

As Zen was writing, he also began to think of things he needed to clarify, along with other things for confirmation that he assumed would be helpful to his parents.

’Guilds... I’ll need to ask Teacher about it... Hmmm...’

As ideas kept popping into his head, Zen grabbed another paper. ’It’s better for me to write my agendas to make the week in the game as productive as possible!’

Although he had photographic memory, it was still better to write his ideas down so that they would be more organized and easier to remember.

This lasted for over an hour before Zen finally set down his pen.

"Hooo~ Finally done."

He then got up and left the notes at the small table near his door, so his parents would be able to read them as soon as they entered their room.

Of course, Zen also did not forget to take a picture of what he wrote and send it to their family group chat along with a short message.

Although their family had become used to not relying on phones whenever they’re together, he wanted to make sure that they would be able to read his notes.

Zen’s lips curled into an excited smile as he hurriedly jumped on the bed and picked up the sleek black helmet on the bedside table.

He still felt happy as his and his sister’s original gaming helmets had long turned to dust along with the airplane from back then.

Without delaying further, Zen hurriedly equipped it as he spoke.

"Dive in."

Just like that, the sight in his eyes turned black as the ever-so-familiar feeling of weightlessness that he had dearly missed assaulted his senses.
