I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 192: Humans are treacherous!
Back on Earth, the heroes stood in stunned silence. The sky was clear again, save for the distant sparks of the Lionel fleet tearing itself apart in a civil war of greed.
"They... they stopped?" Lancer mumbled, lowering his guard.
Blaze looked at the radar. The Alpha Corp ships were moving in like a swarm of vultures, but they weren’t firing on Earth. They were dismantling the remaining Lionel loyalists.
"No," Blaze said, his voice heavy with a new kind of realization. "They didn’t stop. They were stopped by someone who didn’t even need to be here to win."
"It looks like I really sided with the right person. A new era is about to begin..." The corner of his lips crept up. "Prepare a ship. Although there’s not much left to help, we should still join the party."
In his ship, Leo stood up and stretched. He looked at the Patriarch, whose spirit seemed to have finally broken.
"Don’t worry," Leo said, walking toward the door. "Although it might feel like you’re in hell, it isn’t even close for your family. So you won’t be bored..."
He stepped out of the room, leaving the old man in the dark.
"Next stop," Leo told his pilot, "The Intergalactic Court. It’s time to legally finalize the death of a Dynasty."
....
Meanwhile, the Patriarch of the Lionel Family was left alone in the room, watching the scenes of destruction across the news channels on the screen.
When the broadcast began, everyone was talking about the Lionel Family’s secret might, wondering if they were going to turn their fortune around.
Now, it was different. The entire feed was filled with the discussion of Alpha Corp, which had seemingly taken down the Lionel Family without losing a single ship.
It also happened live, when no one could deny it. It happened in the presence of many Overlords, some from other Space Sectors that were here to watch the show.
Leo Vanderlen was already famous across the galaxy because of his bank. But now, the Alpha Corporation as its own was making a name.
This time, it wasn’t for their innovation, or their wealth. It wasn’t because of their philanthropy either. It was purely for their war might.
They hadn’t taken down a random family. They had taken down the army in which an advanced middle tier planet had poured all their connection and wealth.
"Do you have something to say?" Ulen asked the old man, watching his eyes tremble. He freed the old man’s mouth as well.
"Why... Why is he going this far? If my granddaughter offended him, couldn’t he just kill her? Why did he have to destroy my family’s legacy! Why?!" The old man asked, his voice dry. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Ulen sighed, subconsciously raising his hand to stroke his beard. However, his fingers passed through empty air.
Only then did he remember again that he didn’t have a beard anymore. His beard was already shaved.
"Cough," he coughed lightly, as he sat next to the old man, pretending as if nothing had happened.
"Do you even need to ask? Can’t you guess what is going through his heart?" Ulen asked. "As a man, if someone had burned your friends to death, and no one could touch them because of their family’s influence, what would you do?"
The old man didn’t answer. If it was him, just to maintain the family’s reputation and to make sure that no one touched his friends, he would’ve made an example of that family.
He would’ve killed the person responsible, but he wouldn’t have stopped there. He would’ve crushed everyone related to them.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t get himself to accept that openly.
"Is that fair? Why should the family members be punished for one person’s mistake! Why is someone like you siding with a petty man like him? One day, he might also kill you! He is unhinged! You shouldn’t help such monsters!"
The old man knew that Leo was the mastermind, but he had also realised that Leo wasn’t personally very strong. If he could turn this guard towards him, he could still turn everything around.
"Fair... Are you really looking for fairness in this world? What a foolish thought..." Ulen shook his head lightly.
A thought crossed his mind, which he expressed out loud.
"I don’t know what kind of person he was before your family messed with him. Was he really this brutal? Or was he someone foolish who also looked for fairness in this world, afraid to hurt anyone?"
"I suppose we would never know, because that person no longer exists. And I won’t blame him for that."
He had heard Leo mention his ill fated relationship with the Lionel Family, albeit never in detail. Besides that, he didn’t really know much about that person’s past.
All he knew was that Leo had saved him from that dark cell. Although he didn’t show it on his face, he was really grateful to that man, especially since he had long lost hope of ever seeing the light of day.
Deep down, he had already marked this favor in his heart. Even if Leo was using him, he wouldn’t have cared, as long as he could do something significant to repay that favor of his life in the future.
"You don’t know humans! They are cunning, and they are very good at acting! It looks like he has already fooled you! You don’t realize that it’s not revenge! He’s just doing it to take his competitor out, so his bank could rule this sector!"
The old man was still trying to convince Ulen to side with him.
"If you can free me, I can help you! You can become the next owner of the Alpha Corp! What he owns, will belong to you! I won’t take a single credit! All I want is to protect my family! Please help this helpless old man!"
His eyes were almost wet. It was unclear if he was actually crying, or just pretending to be.
Ulen looked at those teary eyes that looked extremely convincing. "You’re serious? I can possess everything that he has?"
