I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!-Chapter 255: Identity Test
A heavily modulated voice came through Leo’s comms system. "You are approaching the restricted airspace of a High-Tier designation zone. State your identity and your purpose for approaching immediately."
Leo took a deep breath, looking at the massive battle ships cast over his small craft.
Although the mother ship he had bought for his war against the Lionel Family was also state of the art, but compared to the one possessed by Vitrean was leagues apart.
Their weapon systems were visibly active, practically telling him that they were ready to blow him apart if he didn’t answer them, or tried to force his way through.
This was the first real test of his absurd surplus of fake IDs.
He glanced at his console, where he had already queued up one of the eleven profiles. He had deliberately chosen the most unremarkable one of the bunch, a human-adjacent race with no striking features, tied to a perfectly mundane background.
He tapped the console, transmitting the encrypted data package.
"This is a private vessel," Leo replied, keeping his voice carefully neutral and devoid of any panic. "My name is Kaelen, and I am transmitting my identification credentials now."
"Credentials received. State your purpose for approaching the planet," the officer demanded.
The tone remained unyielding, clearly on edge from the recent galactic conflict that had left the surrounding space a graveyard of metal.
Even though the chaos of the ancient house battlefield was over, but it still left many high tier planets the weakest that had ever been.
It also made them worry that an enemy might try to take advantage of this period of weaknesses and recovery, so they were on edge.
"I am an immigrant," Leo stated smoothly. "I have come to secure the necessary permits to register and establish a new company headquarters."
There was a brief, almost imperceptible pause on the other end of the line. "A business registration? From an independent vessel?"
The officer’s voice carried a heavy dose of skepticism, which was entirely expected. The astronomical costs and sheer influence required to even step foot on a high-tier planet for business purposes were legendary.
"What is your planet of origin?"
"I hail from Corvus," Leo answered without missing a beat, naming the world listed on his forged documents.
He knew that the people had already seen his home planet on the identity card. They were still asking him to verify, as if they were suspicious.
"It’s a middle-tier planet in the outer rings of the central region."
Another heavy silence stretched across the comms. Leo knew exactly what was happening on the other side of that floating fortress.
The security forces were running his Kaelen identity through dozens of advanced algorithms, checking his middle-tier background against criminal databases.
They are also looking for any lingering ties to the ancient houses, the recent war, or the other high tier planets that were hostile to Vitrean.
"A middle-tier immigrant looking to play in the big leagues right after a sector-wide war," the officer finally replied, though the hostility in his voice had dropped a little, replaced by mild disbelief.
"You picked a hell of a time to relocate, young man. Cut your engines and prepare to be boarded for biometric scanning and standard cargo inspection. Any resistance will be met with immediate destruction."
"Understood. Powering down now," Leo said, leaning back in his captain’s chair.
He let out a quiet sigh of relief. The first hurdle was cleared. The identity card, despite the ridiculous circumstance of receiving eleven of them, was holding up perfectly against high-tier military scrutiny.
Now, he just had to play the part of a wealthy, foolish immigrant from a middle-tier world who had more money than sense, a role he was more than prepared to perform perfectly.
He had already kept all the cargo that could be considered suspicious, in his storage ring. Even the other false identity cards, including things related to his real identity were kept in his storage ring.
Of course, he was worried that they might see his storage ring and ask to check the contents within. Which was why he didn’t wear the ring on his finger.
He placed the storage ring in his mouth, keeping it under his tongue, using the same method he had used to sneak it inside the unnamed prison.
He knew that if these people were serious and scanned his entire body, they were definitely going to detect the ring in his mouth.
Still, he hoped that they weren’t going to go that far. After all, his identity was more or less confirmed through his false life card.
The heavy thud of magnetic docking clamps echoed through Leo’s ship, sending a slight tremor up through the deck plates. The sound was followed by the distinct sound of the outer airlock opening.
Leo stood up from the captain’s chair, smoothing down his clothes. He arranged his features, revealing a hint of civilian nervousness, the exact expression a rich kid from Corvus should have when surrounded by high-tier military.
He pressed his tongue firmly against the roof of his mouth, holding the cold metal of the storage ring securely in place. He reminded himself to keep his answers brief.
Speaking too much with a ring tucked beneath his tongue would give him an odd lisp, which might draw unwanted attention.
The inner airlock door slid open, and four heavily armored figures stepped into his ship.
Their armor was pitch-black, and interlaced with glowing blue energy circuits. Their faces were entirely concealed behind semi transparent visors.
The sheer presence of the Vitrean security forces felt suffocating. These were elite soldiers who had just survived a sector-wide war.
Even though they didn’t reveal it, their body was still reeking of a frightening killing intent. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
The leader of the squad stepped forward, holding a sleek, rectangular scanning device. "Identify yourself verbally for the audio log."
"Kaelen," Leo replied, his voice carefully controlled, opening his mouth just enough to speak clearly without dislodging the ring. "Of Corvus."
"Stand perfectly still, young man," the officer commanded.
He raised the device. A green light swept over Leo pupils.
