Immortal In A Death Game-Chapter 169: Adam’s Age
"I’d like you to meet Chase Damon, Country Manager for the IBAA US."
"What?" Adam’s eyes widened. Why was he suddenly meeting someone so important? He instinctively stood up, extending his hand. "Sir."
"Mr. Adam." Chase’s handshake was firm. "Please, call me Chase. And thank you for agreeing to meet on short notice."
"That’s... no problem at all."
They all sat down, and Chase didn’t waste any time at all. After they were done introducing themselves, he immediately looked Adam in the eyes and said,
"I want to ask you about the Hospital."
Adam was slightly taken aback by the question. But like Chase, he didn’t linger with the pleasantries.
"They’re real," he said.
"I believe you." Chase leaned forward. "What did they do to you?"
"That..." Adam’s jaw tightened. "It’s... hazy. I escaped them twenty years ago, and my memories are jumbled. But the experiments... I can clearly remember how they experimented on me."
"How?"
Adam took a breath. "They burned me. Drowned me. Stretched my skin until it tore. Removed my bones. Cut out organs to see how fast they’d grow back. I was awake the entire time they were doing this. They would—"
Gordon’s coffee cup suddenly shattered in his hand. His fingers were trembling, his face twisted with rage. Chase only glanced at him, however, before he gestured to Adam to continue.
"And?" Chase said calmly, though his own expression had darkened.
"They kept me in a white room. No windows. Always cold. There were maybe a dozen doctors, but I only remember a few faces clearly. Dr. Aniston was the worst. She treated me like..." Adam paused. "Like I wasn’t human. Most of them, actually. There was... really only one who treated me with... care."
"Were there others like you?"
"Yes. I came to learn that there was from... a source." Adam nodded. "But I don’t know if they’re still alive... because the only reason I’m still here able to talk to you is that I can’t... die."
"Hm." Chase fell quiet, processing the information. They stayed silent for a moment, but after a few more seconds, Adam tapped the table.
"Why... are you asking these questions?"
"Because..." Chase met his gaze directly. "I initially wanted to ask for their help to replicate your abilities."
"What?" Adam’s entire body tensed, his hands clenching into fists.
"Let me explain," Chase said quickly. "With all the experiments, I was thinking maybe they found a way to temporarily grant your abilities to people."
"Hmm."
"And this could prevent millions of deaths every month. You survived being burned by the Administrators—imagine if everyone could do that. But knowing what they really did to you makes me think... maybe it’s not worth it."
"If that was possible..." Adam remained quiet for several seconds. "If that’s possible, then I’ll offer all of me. I’ll willingly go back to that white room to be experimented on."
Both Chase and Gordon stared at him, shocked by the sincerity in his voice.
"But... I’ve recently learned that they probably weren’t even the ones who created me," Adam continued. "They weren’t the ones who made me... like this. I think I was found."
"Found?" Gordon leaned forward.
"I... think I might be older than I look," Adam said softly. "It’s possible that the Hospital found me... somewhere underground."
"That—"
"Ah! Is that why you were interested in my collection earlier?!"
And all of a sudden, a familiar voice erupted from the table next to them. The three quickly turned to look, only to see Leona pointing directly at Adam while Harvey and Beatrice tried to drag her down.
"You three..." Gordon sighed, shaking his head. They had clearly been eavesdropping their conversation. "I apologize about this, Chase."
"It’s alright." Chase smiled slightly. "We can continue this discussion later. I’ll contact you, Adam. And I’ll help you find out more about the Hospital."
"You’re... going to help? Why?" Adam narrowed his eyes. "The Hospital might not provide you with anything useful."
"I’m helping you now." Chase stood, straightening his suit jacket. "And it doesn’t hurt to get in good graces with the Rousseau sisters, considering you are rumored to be in a relationship with the two of them. They have considerable influence; the country would benefit from having them as a friend."
"I’m afraid... the Hospital made Sylvie persona non grata."
"They did?" Chase placed his hand on his chin. "If they’re capable of doing that... then they really are government. I’ll look into it."
And with that, Chase left with Gordon, but not before Gordon shook his head in disappointment again at the approaching trio.
"You’re supposed to be the oldest," he said while looking at Leona, who completely ignored him.
And now, with the two bosses of the IBAA gone, the three joined Adam at his table.
"We are sorry, Adam," Beatrice said, sighing while shaking her head. "We did not mean to eavesdrop."
"It’s... okay." Adam also shook his head. "I... want my story to be public knowledge anyway."
"Then tell us more, Adam the... Endless." Leona stared at him with intense curiosity. "Are you saying you might be older than all of us? Combined?"
"Yes. But I’m not sure, exactly." Adam shrugged. "I’ve had visions lately of... being inside a crypt."
"Okay." Leona immediately pulled out a pen and paper from seemingly nowhere. "Draw anything you remember from this crypt."
"I can’t. It’s all hazy and unclear." Adam paused as he just stared at the paper. "But... they were using torches."
"Were there bones and skulls? Fish markings? Maybe crosses?" she continued to ask. Harvey and Beatrice seemed incredibly curious, too. Just looking back and forth between the two of them.
"Crosses...?" Adam closed his eyes, trying to remember. "There probably wasn’t?"
"You—" Leona’s eyes widened, and she quickly clamped her mouth.
Adam noticed her shocked expression, and he quickly waved his hands. " But I’m not sure. My memories might not even be memories, just hallucinations. I wasn’t even sure if I was bound by chains or just rope."
Leona remained stunned, staring at him.
"Ma’am...?"
"Yo. Why are you acting like that?" Harvey snapped his finger at Leona’s face.
"B-because if that memory is actually a memory," Leona whispered. "Adam could potentially be older... than Jesus himself."
Harvey’s eyes went wide, and Beatrice choked on her coffee.
Adam stared at her, completely stunned. "That can’t be real."
"Why were you curious about ziggurats?" Leona asked suddenly. "Do you have memories of those, too?"
Adam was quiet for a moment, then nodded. "But again, they might just be hallucinations."
"Hmm." Leona turned quiet, seemingly deep in thought. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Adam waited for her to say something, but when she didn’t—
"Well..." Adam scratched his chin. "I can read and understand Latin. Is that importa—"
"LATIN?!"
