Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Trapped in Fuer’s Room

Josh said, "When the noise outside wakes Fuer, she’ll come out to check the situation. We can figure out a way to stall her, then find someone to risk going into her room to search; there should be clues there."

The others heard this and found it feasible as well.

This task really couldn’t be done by one person alone.

Huang Bairen hesitated, "But what if the people outside don’t manage to stall Fuer, and she returns to her room and sees the person searching for clues? That person is as good as dead."

The scene instantly fell silent.

Josh suddenly said, "Alright then, let’s toss leaves to decide. Heads will go on the adventure, tails will stay outside to draw attention. We’ll do it for a few rounds to pick an adventurer."

The others heard this and also felt it was fair, so they nodded in agreement, "Okay."

The group began tossing leaves.

Eventually, the adventurer was Josh.

Green Hair and Qian Duobao both secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Huang Bairen was secretly pleased too, but still put on a worried expression, "This... might not be suitable. You look quite weak, can you do it?"

Josh also appeared reluctant, "Then maybe..."

Green Hair quickly interjected, "No! Didn’t we agree on this from the start? It’s too unfair of you to back out now!"

Qian Duobao chimed in, "Yeah, if this vote doesn’t count, you might as well just designate someone to die."

Josh had no choice but to say, "Alright then, I’ll go, but you must stall her outside. Otherwise, even if I get the intel, it won’t matter if I can’t pass it on."

The others cautiously nodded.

The group split up to take action.

Huang Bairen led a few people to start a fire by the pool next to the stage, cheering joyfully as they roasted meat. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

The octopus, little monkeys, and lions were all woken up, roaring at them in displeasure.

Huang Bairen spat, "What are you yelling about, you beasts! We are humans, we need to eat. If you can’t stand it, leave!"

"Exactly!" Green Hair even dared to urinate by the lion cages.

Sure enough, Fuer was soon disturbed, coming out with a whip.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Josh sneaked into Fuer’s room and quickly started searching for clues.

On the desk was a photo frame containing a picture of Fuer with a little girl. The two bore some resemblance, likely sisters or the like.

She opened the bedside cabinet and found a diary inside.

From outside came the sounds of whipping and screams.

Josh quickly tucked the diary into her clothes and hurriedly checked other places.

Apart from the bed, there was only the bedside cabinet, a vanity table, and a wardrobe in the room.

Suddenly, her attention was drawn to a newspaper used as a wedge under the vanity table.

The newspaper recounted a story about an octopus that turned into a monster, ran through the sewers, and killed humans in residential areas.

She was about to pull it out when footsteps sounded outside.

Josh’s brow furrowed as she quickly ran to the door, only to find it wouldn’t budge.

The door seemed to lock automatically upon closing.

She’s done for!

Fuer’s hand was already on the doorknob.

There was nowhere to hide in the room; Josh’s brow furrowed as she rolled under the bed.

Fortunately, she was slender and thin, fitting snugly under the low, narrow bed.

Josh curled up tightly under the bed, watching as the door opened and a pair of red high heels appeared in her view.

The high heels stopped at the doorway.

Josh held her breath, watching the situation at the door.

Luckily, the high heels didn’t linger long.

The door was closed again.

Fuer put down her whip and lay back on the bed.

Josh breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

Fuer turned off the light, plunging the room back into darkness.

Only then did Josh notice a faint blue light emanating from behind her.

Lying flat, she turned her head, meeting a pair of eyes.

Josh almost gasped out loud—there was another person under the bed!

More accurately, it was a girl, with pigtails, wearing a flouncy dress, a serene smile on her face, but her body was covered in bluish bruises.

Her eyes were empty, and her smile was stiff, with the faint blue light coming from a blue gemstone in her chest.

Wasn’t this the girl from the photo on Fuer’s nightstand?

Josh suddenly paused, realizing the girl seemed to show no signs of life.

She was a corpse.

Yet her body exuded no scent, and her eyes remained visibly watery, more like a life-like sculpture.

Josh cautiously reached over, touching the girl’s body, rummaging through her clothes.

But there were no clues on this body aside from its appearance.

Josh frowned slightly, controlling her breathing, minimizing her presence, waiting for a chance to leave.

Suddenly, noise erupted outside.

It seemed like Huang Bairen’s group, noticing she hadn’t come out, was creating an opportunity for her to escape.

Sure enough, Fuer was again disturbed, cursed under her breath, and went out with her whip.

Josh’s eyes narrowed.

Now’s the time!

She stared intently at the door crack, crawling out the instant before it closed.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed her foot.

Josh was startled, and the delay allowed the door to close.

She cursed and tried to crawl away, but the hand from under the bed was strong, yanking her back.

Josh’s heart sank, meeting the girl’s eyes.

The girl’s expression turned sad and sorrowful.

She huddled in Josh’s arms like a frightened child, seeking warmth.

"Sister, I’m so cold, can you hold me?" the girl’s voice echoed emptily.

She was indeed ice-cold.

Josh cursed softly, her fingers forming a seal as she muttered incantations, "Seal!"

A complex golden pattern flashed, vanishing into the girl’s brow.

The girl became calm, her grip on Josh loosening.

Josh quickly pushed her away and crawled out from under the bed.

The little girl quickly grabbed her again, pulling off the blue gemstone from her neck and stuffing it into Josh’s pocket, "Sister..."

[Ding! Congratulations, you have obtained a rare hidden item, the Mermaid’s Heart.]

Understanding the girl’s gaze, Josh bit her lip, squatting down, "Come out, I’ll take you with me."

The little girl smiled and shook her head, "You should go quickly, don’t let my sister find out~"

Without hesitation, Josh turned and left.

Her hand on the doorknob, a flash of blue light from her pocket opened the lock.

Fuer hadn’t returned yet.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Josh slipped out and signaled to Huang Bairen and the others from a distance.

Only then did the other members relax, allowing themselves to be scolded by Fuer.

Once Fuer returned to her room to sleep, Josh and the others gathered by the audience seats.

"So, what did you find?" Huang Bairen asked impatiently, looking at her.

Josh gave him a reassuring look, taking out the newspaper, "I found this."

"What’s this?" Green Hair glanced at the newspaper.

Josh spread it out, "Look at the photo, it’s a report about the octopus. The newspaper says this octopus crawled through the sewer and into a house, killed someone, and was locked up."
