Immortal in Horror Game: She is the Fortune Teller!-Chapter 74 - 71: Horror Hospital 38 (Preparing to Change Bodies)
The director sneered, "They just rely on our technology for treatment. Once they learn our treatment techniques, they’ll turn around and eradicate us in an instant. How could humans possibly allow any non-human life forms to stand on equal ground with them?"
Josh looked up at the director, his eyes instantly becoming pure and innocent, "Dad, will the process of becoming human be very painful? How did you discover that this experiment could turn us into humans?"
The director lovingly patted her head, measuring her body data as he spoke, "You must understand, brief pain can bring immense power. With this power, we can completely wipe out humans. As long as we can achieve this, everything is worth it!"
Josh blinked her eyes, "Do we really have to eradicate all humans? They haven’t harmed us, so why do we need to do this?"
"You don’t want to kill humans?" The director suddenly leaned closer, grabbing her hair with one hand and clutching her throat with the other, the veins on his elderly wrists bulging.
Anger contorted his face, his nostrils flaring, and the hot breath pouring from his nose reminded Josh inexplicably of an erupting volcano.
Yet his gaze was chillingly cold, with a ruthlessness that sent a shiver down her spine, as if daring to say "no" would have him choke her to death on the spot.
Josh was caught off guard by the chokehold, the restraint on her neck causing her to furrow her brows in pain.
But she maintained an innocent look, gazing at her father, "No, I just want to know the reason for wiping them out."
The director released his grip with an icy expression, "You don’t need to know."
Josh frowned slightly, pondered for a moment, then asked, "After I become human, what will I need to help Dad with?"
The director’s expression turned from gloomy to cheerful, patting her head affectionately, "Of course, you’ll join me in completely cleansing the filthy and despicable humans outside."
Josh nodded somewhat understandingly, "Are there many humans outside? How long will it take us to clean them out?"
A gleam of shrewdness passed in the director’s eyes, "However many there are, what can they do? Dad’s experiment is finished. Once the experimental subjects in the greenhouse capsule are released, it won’t be long before all humans are infected with the cat gene virus, turning them into cats like us."
He looked at Josh again, "During this process, those despicable humans will surely attack the hospital in retaliation, trying to eradicate the source of infection. Dad needs you to help fend off these humans."
[Ding! Congratulations, you’ve obtained the clue "Director’s Human Invasion Plan." The main quest progress of "Director’s Bloody Past" is at 50%.]
As Josh listened, she uploaded all the information to the group, sharing the main quest progress.
She handled the director while messaging the group, pinging them: [You can go to the director’s office for clues. The computer’s top-secret file password is 381208. The director’s doing an experiment now, so he probably won’t go up soon.]
Yuze: [Go up? You’re under the principal’s office?]
Josh: [Yes, don’t alert anyone. I’ll see if I can gather more useful information.]
Yuze: [... You know your spiritual power is only F-grade, right? That experiment body could crush you easier than an ant.]
Josh: [Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.]
Yuze: [You better be.]
Rob: [The captain’s not speaking human, he’s concerned about you dying in the instance. At your level, you can’t use a Resurrection Card; if you die, you’re really dead.]
Josh: [I know.]
Yushi: [Safety is the most important.]
Josh: [Okay.]
When she looked up again, the director had already attached various tubes to her, with the other ends connected to Code 7.
Code 7 lay on another operating table beside her, bare-chested, with a remarkably calm expression.
The director applied alcohol to their temples, inserting the ends of an oddly-shaped tube into both of their temples with needles.
Josh instinctively flinched in pain.
A securing mechanism rose from under the operating table, fixing her head in a secure grip.
She looked at the director, "Dad, what is this for?"
The director soothingly patted her, "This tube will connect your spiritual seas. Once the experiment is over, you’ll possess his body."
A flash of surprise passed through Josh’s eyes; she had always thought having her own body meant becoming human, like when she was immersed in the pool before.
She hadn’t expected it meant possessing someone else’s body.
She tried to look in Code 7’s direction but found her body couldn’t move.
Josh hurriedly spoke out, "Code 7, are you willing to give me your body?"
Code 7 didn’t speak.
The director chuckled, "Why wouldn’t he be? I raised him from a child just for this moment, to give his body to you."
Josh suddenly realized, remembering the words from when she first met Code 7.
He had said he became like this because of her...
So this was what it meant.
Earlier on the rooftop, for a moment, she had indeed sensed Code 7’s killing intent.
He genuinely wanted to kill her.
Josh wanted to say more, but the director gestured for her to be silent, "The experiment is about to begin, my child. Focus on feeling the connection between you and him. Don’t speak; feel his pain and struggle."
Josh pressed her lips together and eventually closed her eyes.
She needed to understand how this experiment was conducted.
The director, satisfied, moved to the other side.
Josh could only glance sideways, seeing the director take out a toolbox.
An all-too-familiar toolbox.
She recalled previous clues.
Nearly all the clues pointed to the director being a cat-abusing psychopath.
Yet through their interaction, Josh could only sense that although he was insane, his overall intention was still for the good of the Cat Clan, showing no signs of detesting or wanting to abuse cats.
But he truly took out a toolbox, filled with various torture devices identical to those used by cat-abusing psychopaths.
The director smiled warmly at the lying Code 7, his aged fingers gliding over his abdomen.
Suddenly, with a "puff" sound, a scalpel pierced into his abdomen.
Josh could empathetically feel as if her own abdomen were stabbed, the pain so acute it made her body tense up, wanting to curl.
But her limbs were restrained and couldn’t move.
Her mind could even perceive Code 7’s emotions.
He seemed already accustomed to it, feeling this level of pain didn’t amount to much.
The director donned his gloves, which were peculiar; they seemed like rubber gloves but with small metal spikes on the palm.
They didn’t resemble any proper gloves.
