Chapter 328: Gearing Up

With each word he read, Adam’s brows rose until they arched in pure disbelief.

Who in a position of power had never betrayed another one or an oath? He didn’t know the answer, but a hand’s fingers could surely count them. Therefore, though the weapon’s abilities seemed constrained, they would apply to almost every god.

The exceptional news caused him to tighten his grip on the smooth leather stripes enveloping the hammer’s handle. He could even vow something to increase its power. And what better one than his ultimate goal?

Without wasting a second, he brought the hammer to his forehead, the icy metal prickling his skin as he muttered. "I vow to obliterate gods, demon kings, and devils alike."

Instantly, a notification condensed from crackling lightning arcs before him.

[Stat bonus doubled when confronting a god, demon king, or devil.]

A delighted grin crept on Adam’s face. Even if insufficient for now, that would help a lot in the future.

"Mhh? That’s not the vow I had in mind." Durgrim frowned for a second before he shrugged. "Well, this one is also acceptable since they’re threatening everything you’ve built with your sweat, blood, and tears."

Adam strapped the hammer to his belt and nodded. "I’ll never live in peace as long as they interfere. In any case, excellent work with these items. You have no idea how much they’ll help me."

Durgrim raised his thumb with a nod. "Isn’t our creed to believe in actions, not words? Those are mine." He walked to a sealed chest and gestured. "I have a light armor for you, but it’s only a mythical set."

Walking to the chest, Adam chuckled. "I’ve seen a lot of smiths who would die in shame if they heard you."

"No way. They’d just become farmers and enjoy a less... demanding job." Durgrim returned the chuckle as he opened the chest, revealing a breastplate, greaves, boots, armguards, pauldrons, and a helmet.

They filled the tent in their soft emerald hue as the engravings pulsed a bright azure. The breastplate featured the same coat of arm he had seen on the military officers’ chest: a blazing crown crossed by a scarlet sword.

Intrigued by their thinness, Adam picked up what looked like a metallic breastplate before a deep furrow creased his brows. "You might have made a mistake here, old Durgrim. There are no openings to put it on."

He shook his head, noticing the boots and armguards had the same issue.

However, Durgrim sneered. "You’re so outdated, my lord. Who still puts armors the old way with all the belts and straps to secure them? By my ancestor, you’re wasting more time equipping yourselves than fighting."

As Adam raised his palms in confusion, Durgrim pulled on the boots. The metal stretched under his fingers like rubber. "Here. It’s more supple yet retains its durability."

Adam’s eyes widened in disbelief. How did a dwarf from a world of magic get this strange yet incredible idea?

Durgrim continued, answering his silent question.

"Theo helped me develop this composite alloy." Noticing Adam’s confusion, his eyes widened. "Don’t tell me you forgot about the lord you spared during the second trial. Was it War Machine? Anyway, that’s him."

Adam scratched his head and chuckled. "You’re right. I forgot he even existed. Anyway, that’s nice."

As he slid the armor pieces on, he couldn’t help but feel like it was just a cold sweater and pants. Yet, he whistled when he knocked on his breastplate, causing a loud clang to reverberate.

Mab moved out as he put his helmet on. The large openings around the eyes didn’t hinder his vision at all, and the armor’s suppleness surprisingly allowed for sharper movement than leather.

"Impressive. No, it’s the best armor I’ve worn to date."

"Of course it is. Muramasa is the best blade smith, but armors aren’t his specialities." Satisfied by the praise, Durgrim smiled before the ruffle of the tent’s curtain drew his attention to the figure walking in.

"Oh? I didn’t think you’d talk behind my back, old friend. How about a contest to get a definitive answer?" Muramasa offered him a broad smile, his fingers itching to hold a hammer and pound metals. "You won’t need to worry about materials. We have Uru, Yggdrasil roots, and other metals."

Adam chuckled as he patted Durgrim’s trembling shoulder. "Thank you for the gear. I’ll leave the materials here."

With a snap of his fingers, the magic cub appeared and poured out so many mythical and divine materials that Durgrim almost choked on his saliva.

As a glistening sea littered the ground, he waved his hand and walked to the entrance. "Have fun, guys. Oh! Try to upgrade Balmung and Gae Bolg, but don’t give anything to the mythical figures until I forgive them."

He heard their excited chuckles from the outside. These two inseparable craftsmen finally got the resources they needed to perfect their crafts, and he was eager to see what they’d produce next. But now that he had decent equipment, he had to focus on himself.

With a thought, he called for his interface window and assessed his increased stats. ’Four thousand for each piece of equipment, no set bonus, though.’

As of now, his strength towered at a whopping 1.3123.574 points, while agility came second at 1.246.654 points. Vitality came last since his weapons didn’t increase it, but 912.007 points weren’t anything to scoff at.

Still, he knew he was far from Baal’s level, much less major gods like Marduk, Zeus, or Odin. That’s why he had wanted to go to the demon realm. After all, he could have absorbed demonic essence without limits until he killed a demon king, but alas...

’I hope the underworld has abundant energy to compensate.’

He turned toward the wide-eyed Mimi with a sigh. "I think I’m ready to go. Thank you for your hospitality."

She gazed at the armor hugging his muscular figure, blushing like a tomato. Why was he better looking after covering his torso? How did it make any sense?

"Cough. You look... good." Unable to calm her racing heart, she used Luna’s secret technique—she turned to hide her embarrassment. "I know I won’t change your mind, but promise me two things."

He raised a brow and smiled warmly. "You know I’ll give you whatever you need. In fact, you don’t even have to ask. Take it."

"T-That’s not what I meant. Promise me not to burden your mind too much. I don’t know how to explain it. Perhaps I’m even wrong, and it’s normal for people to change after ten years, but... I don’t know. I feel you buried something important under the urgency fueling you."
