Imp to Demon King: A Journey of Conquest-Chapter 370: Return, Stats, and Helm of Darkness
Chapter 370: Return, Stats, and Helm of Darkness
Two weeks later, Harmony’s Gate hummed with swirling mana cut by three gigantic figures crawling through the narrow opening. The plaza’s neat slabs groaned under their knees as their fifty heads observed the surroundings.
"HAA!" Panicked screams rippled through the peaceful citizens the moment their eyes landed on the Hecatonchires. The grotesque faces, the one hundred arms, the pale skin stretched over absurd muscles. Everything was a show of horror they hadn’t expected to see on this bright morning, a nightmare brought to reality by some wicked sorcery.
Winds whipped the blue uniforms of police officers charging to the scene, only for their hurried steps to freeze and their jaws to drop when the three intruders pushed themselves to their feet.
The territory housed a few jotuns, but they wouldn’t even reach these three monsters’ knees.
"H-Hey," an officer stuttered to his colleague, his voice cracking in disbelief. "Is it me, or are they taller than the northern mountain? P-Pinch me, please, I want to wake up."
"Ouch!" A second later, the same officer snapped to his colleague a wronged grimace twisting his lips.
"You asked us to pinch you, sir." The colleague gave him a solemn salute. "Should we engage these creatures or evacuate civilians?"
The officer coughed in his fist, putting up a confident facade. "Evacuate the..." He paused, his eyes widening as Gyge’s grumbles overwhelmed the city’s sounds.
Was that really just a voice? Even the sonic spells he had witnessed seemed less powerful. At least they didn’t force him to slump to the ground and cover his ears to endure as windows shattered everywhere.
"Never again, you hear me, Adam? Two weeks to find a working Gate, only to squirm through the opening like worms when we could have crossed the universe had you known where your realm was!"
Beside them, Adam rolled his eyes. "Sure, I could have mapped the entire universe, too. Anyway, you know the location now, so tour the realm for a while until we’re ready to start the war."
Briareus pointed at the spiritual Qi tower, his nostrils opening up. "Smells fresh, almost like mother. I’ll wait there."
Gyge nodded while Cottus smiled at Garduck, who still carried one of his arms. "I have high expectations for you, little friend. Grow stronger so your bravery can shine brighter." He handed him the still-evolving Achilles before waving his hands on his way to the tower.
"I will! Thank you again, great Cottus!" Garduck struck his chest, his gaze firm before his eyes darted to the sprawled and grimacing officers, then Adam. "Let me handle them before I start my evolution. You should focus on yourself." He clenched his fists, knuckles white. "Each day counts, for the time to counter attack approaches."
Adam’s grip tightened on Kusanagi as he nodded. "I don’t know how long we’ll need to evolve, but I hope to see you soon... and Garduck?"
Garduck paused, his brows rising. "Yes?"
"I know I’ve made mistakes, but you’ve always overcome your fears to cover my back. Thank you for your trust."
Garduck watched his soft smile, returning it before waving his hand. "And you’ve helped me achieve my dream. Don’t underplay your merits, Adam. You’ve earned my and everyone’s loyalty long ago. See you after evolving."
Adam watched him calm the officers, who stumbled more than drunkards after a beach party.
Each time he returned, he somehow made their work harder. Perhaps he should give them a bonus or organise a feast to apologise? Well, Garduck would handle the matter appropriately, anyway. Checking his interface, cap, and Kusanagi was more important for now.

He knew of the effects since he had used it already. Still, the stats boost was a welcomed addition. However, things became tricky when he tried to inspect Kusanagi.
Kusanagi
???
’Yeah, still can’t see its detail.’ It had been like this since he had first tried—a pity, considering it was more famous and probably sharper than Excalibur in Japanese myth.
He sighed, switching to his interface’s outrageous numbers. If not for his powerlessness against Zeus and Hades, he would have thought he had become powerful, but the truth was bittersweet at best and cruel at worst. He was weak, too weak.

His talent name had changed after reaching its full potential. Though he didn’t understand why it had grown before he evolved, he forgot about the mystery the moment he saw the incredible prizes available. Basically, the empty spots on the red wheel were now filled with divine fruits and parchments.
He had even seen a mythical peach of immortality once but got a golden apple of Hesperides instead. Though disappointed, he had rapidly recoiled in shock, then grinned in delight.
The fabulous juiciness and taste aside, he got a million free essence points! And with it, his new primordial essence boosted his stats further at the same ratio as his previous infernal essence.
But he wasn’t satisfied. He moved to his castle, shadows dancing on his solemn face. Divine equipment increased his stats by a percentage of their base value. He had to raise them somehow.
’Perhaps by drawing other fruits? Another parchment of absolution would be wonderful, too.’ His eyes narrowed into slits. ’My talent can become the best if I find a way to rig it—at least to get the reward I want from the daily pool. It should be possible since Tiamat did it to give me the knight contract and Karna’s Kundala.’
His eyes drifted to her room as he reached his. ’Should I ask?’
As if catching his hesitation, her door creaked to reveal her jewel-like purple eyes.

AN: I will change the stat formatting after he evolves because it’s too messy.
