Chapter 372: A New Genesis

Confused, he scrutinised Kusanagi again with little hope for answers after two weeks of failed attempts. Yet his eyes widened this time as an information window burst forth.

Poisonous blood pooled into eight red-eyed serpent heads that sent shivers down his spine, each breathing dark fire. Seven tails coiled in the background, as if to mark this window as the creature’s territory. Even when rows of texts appeared, it only hissed in the background, scrutinising Adam, its heavy gaze giving him the impression the image was judging him.

But the thing that drew his attention more than everything was the eighth’s tail. Its end seemed different, tougher, sharper. Almost like... Kusanagi?

His gaze snapped on the description, curiosity overwhelming him.

Name: Ama-no-Murakumo

Introduction:

Yamata-no-Orochi, the eight-headed and eight-tailed serpent of chaos and destruction, once terrorised mortal lands. Its colossal body covered eight mountains and valleys, making it an impossible force to confront head-on, even for gods. But where strength did work, wits did.

Enamored with a mortal destined to be sacrificed to Orochi, Susanoo carefully planned to protect her. Eight barrels placed in front of as many portals, filled with potent liquor, met the serpent the following day.

Drunk, Orochi fell asleep, a chance Susanoo didn’t miss. With utmost ferocity, he cleaved the monster into pieces until his blade shattered against the eighth tail, where he found the sharpest blade in creation.

But even he didn’t know that Ama-no-Murakumo was no mere weapon but the nexus of Orochi’s power.

Rarity: Primordial Evolutionary Material.

Usage requirement: Reveals itself only before a chaotic reptilian species attempts to evolve.

Adam’s eyes widened, shock making his fingers tremble around the blade. No, Orochi’s bone!

"So that’s why Susanoo pushed it back. He knew... or someone told him? Why didn’t Izanagi share the knowledge with Tiamat then?" He scratched his head, swiping his notifications upward to find answers.

And there he saw it: Izanami, not Izanagi. So, it was his wife who summoned Susanoo to save him.

Muttering a confused word of thanks, he placed the blade with the other materials before his head hit the pillow.

’I don’t know what result I’ll get with so many materials, but...’ His finger twitched over the yes button, a surge of excitement tempered by a tinge of worry overwhelming him. ’Not something ugly, please! I don’t want to have eight heads!’

The moment he tapped yes, the materials trembled, and the room lost its colors. Energies rumbled in cacophonous hums and loud crackles. Chaos stirred into black balls, each floating like condensed, lightless stars. Purple plasma arcs divided space and spread like paintings on a gray canvas as the materials entered a mystical resonance with his similar nature.

He fought the drowsiness assaulting him, curious by the process. Yet, his mind slipped a little more into unconsciousness with each second crawling by. His eyelids, heavy as lead, forced themselves shut the next second before darkness filled his vision. Still, a final thought emerged defiantly. ’I’ll be divinely handsome!’

Of course, he was half joking. Strength mattered most, but why not be both?

As he fell into a transformative slumber, the system and his body were anything but silent.

[Reviewing evolutionary path: Nídhögg’s fang and root of Yggdrasil already integrated.]

[Possessing seven additional materials.]

The materials hummed against Adam’s skin, his body devouring the one he was most accustomed to first: Tiamat’s condensed essence.

Instantly, his essence thickened and roiled like the flows of a tempestuous sea. Scales erupted on his skin, and horns sprouted from his head despite his shapeshifted looks as draconic blood swallowed his devil core.

Though still there, it didn’t generate infernal essence anymore, making it a relic of his previous species, a mere storage for his energy. But things would change.

With its disappearance, Tiamat’s essence carved his every bone, vein, and cell with ancient cuneiform patterns, turning his entire body into the most optimised storage and generator.

The piece of Mab’s wings was consumed next, bringing terrifying changes to his system. New pathways composed of fairy symbols and pulsing an ethereal dark dug into his flesh and stretched to every cell. Mana danced in the room and rushed to his body as if delighted to meet their new owner.

Apep’s molten skin plunged the room into darkness once its turn came. Its effects were milder but as unfathomable as the other two. The dried scales transformed Adam’s body into something else....

Just like when Ra, Isis, and Seth beheaded Apep, sealed him using magic, or pierced him with harpoons countless times only to see him attack their bark the following night, Adam became eternal, always to return when darkness veiled the sky.

Eris’ apple of discord was... weird. It vanished without commotion or visible change. Yet, his system did. From level 94, he dropped down to one, and the formatting shifted. Millions of points turned into mere units to follow divine strength rather than mortal.

The flask containing Kagutsuchi’s essence exploded. The flames raged, painting the room in a chaotic gold before Adam’s body drew them in.

A savage battle ensued, each chaotic force trying to swallow the other. Adam trembled, smoke rising from his twisted mouth, scrunched nostrils, and ears for months. But his energy, now refined by Tiamat’s and aided by the six devil’s authorities, rumbled with cosmic authority. Slowly, Kagutsuchi’s fire bent until it became abyssal dark—a part of him.

Finally, Ama-no-Murakumo, the heavenly sword of gathering clouds, dissolved. Remnants of Yamata-No-Orochi’s consciousness scanned Adam warily, then relaxed upon feeling the thick, draconic lineage and Apep’s influence. Somehow, it felt... home?

Following the sensation, it merged with Adam’s bones, giving them a lusterless sheen, almost unbreakable qualities, and sharpness superior to even Excalibur. His strength also increased along with his terrifying mass.

And with the taxing integrations over, the evolution could finally begin.

But unlike last time, his body was much better at adapting, not to mention the energy contained in the nine evolutionary materials that continued to fuel him.

[Optimising new evolutionary path focusing on strength and elegance.]

[Discarding useless scales and increasing skin thickness. Keeping humanoid form. Refining features.]

[Regrowing wings based on Tiamat’s and Mab’s. Regrowing tail based on Apep’s and Yamata-No-Orochi.]

AN: He doesn’t lose any stat point. The system only gives textual clues of what his body does. It doesn’t influence or control it.
