Chapter 376: An Alliance Against Oppression

A frown creased Adam’s brows as he glanced at Behemoth and Mimi. How could this man spout so many embarrassing flatteries on a first meeting?

"Don’t listen to this dork." Mimi cracked her knuckles, a dangerous glint flashing in her eyes. "If others refused divine contracts, he is the exception. Even gods didn’t want to deal with his constant bullshit."

"Hey!" Lord 6369 ruffled his long Victorian coat, leaning back with a wronged expression. "You just take this whole masquerade way too seriously. Look at me. I never really cared."

His lips curled into a mysterious smile, mana igniting in his gray eyes. "Or did I? You know the saying: to fool your enemies, you must fool your allies first. Let me reintroduce myself. I’m known as Lord 6369, but I prefer Michael."

Adam nodded, not entirely sure what he’d do with this oddball. Still, if Mimi and Behemoth vouched for him, why not?

"Alright, Michael. But don’t act mysterious with me." He blew on his fist in a not-so-veiled threat. "I developed a visceral hate for slimy people. You’re warned." He gestured down and turned to the last lord. "Sit back and let your friend introduce herself."

"Me? Friend with him? God, no." A blond woman leaned back in her chair, her plump cheeks twitching as she rolled her green eyes.

"Ha.Ha.Ha." Detached, dripping with sarcasm, Michael’s laugh echoed as he sat back. "Which god? Those watching us kill each other?"

"I’m not wasting time answering imbeciles." She glared at Adam, her brow twitching slightly. "I contacted you when everything started to buy meat. I’m Hamburger Lover, but my real name is Amelia."

Adam tilted his head, then shook it. Too long ago, too mundane for him to remember. Not that it mattered.

Behemoth rose, hand risen, before he could greet Amelia.

"I’m Pablo!" He chirped, nodding in respect. "Congratulations on ascending! I bet you can’t imagine how chaotic the chat became after the world announcement."

There was such a thing? Well, his system wasn’t linked to the gods’ anymore, so aside from people in his friend list, he couldn’t contact anyone.

Michael nodded. "You should have seen the Greatest Imp raging. He looked like a mad ghoul when he cursed for three days nonstop."

"Or a kid you stole a lollipop from." Mimi snickered, causing everyone to snicker at her. "What? I’m not a kid anymore!" She puffed her cheeks, changing the subject. "Anyway, these two have built decent territory and have decent specialisations."

Michael adjusted his coat, cutting her off. "I guess it won’t come as a surprise, but I’m a fervent fan of the Victorian era. By the way, I’m the one who commissioned War Machine to resurrect the steam engine." He waved his hand dismissively. "I’ve put Loki’s contract on hold to observe the second event’s results, and I must say I’m not disappointed by my... prudence."

With Loki mentioned, Adam glanced at Mimi, who clicked her tongue. "He never really signed a contract with me. It was an illusion, a scam. You must avenge me, brother."

He nodded. "I myself have a few things to settle with him. But more than anything, I hate bastards who play on both sides."

His words were aimed at Loki as much as his new allies. It was a clear warning, a show that he didn’t fear the god of trickery, much less them.

"Roger that. Let me continue with my presentation, will you? It’s undoubtedly worth your time." Michael smirked. "After adapting the engine to mana, I focused on siege weapons, and those eleven years of progress will blow your mind."

Adam leaned forward, eyes sparkling. That was interesting! What did he create? Punk-styled giants powered by magic and cogs like in those RPGs? Or was it more? Planetary cannons would be incredible, too!

Though he could shatter them with a flick of his hand, he couldn’t suppress the surging wave of excitement that made his fingers twitch on his knees.

"I see I got your attention, dear sir! Let’s just say I have enough firepower to force a realm to its knees without losing a single soldier. As for the specifics... I’d rather surprise you when the time comes."

Adam tilted his head, slightly frowning, but ultimately nodded. Even if the man had stupid plans, they would all fall flat when three Hecatonchires and Garduck guarded the city, along with the mythical figures. Heck, he almost wanted someone to betray him, just to witness how many seconds they’d last.

As he nodded, Amelia spoke next. "We have the soldiers and weapons figured out, but what about logistics? You see, the most crushing defeats on earth never came because of strength but supplies! And that’s when I come for the clutch."

Confidence curved her lips as she raised her thumb. "I starved my enemies until they raised the white flag while I repurposed entire realms to farming and rearing cattle. If you’re the god of freedom and vengeance, I have no doubt I’ll become the goddess of agriculture and planning!"

"Not bad." Adam nodded, remembering how he had disturbed this realm’s supply chain to conquer it.

The team was balanced with Amelia ensured supplied, Pablo covering weaponry and heavy lifters, and Micheal siege machinery.

Of course, they wouldn’t help much against major gods, but if they could distract a few minor ones after ascending... His eyes sharpened, and his voice grew solemn.

"I can help you recover your real names if you have nothing to add." He raised a finger. "But Mimi is the absolute leader in my absence. If you plan to squabble over her age or details, the door is this way." A second finger rose. "As I told Mimi years ago, an alliance needs reciprocity. I’m not here to pull your weights, so play your part."

The name change ticked, and aoe card formed between his fingers in a sea of dark fire as his eyes narrowed into slits. "You have five seconds to leave if you disagree."

Pablo, Amelia, and Michael exchanged a glance before they nodded. Clear rules and goals—why would they hesitate?

This stupid game fed each one of them, and the others’ blindness just made things worse. After all, they were united to kill Adam, but after? Just like eleven years ago, they’d turn their blades against each other for the gods’ amusement.

There were no alternatives. Only Adam’s side could bring them salvation, revenge, and peace.

"We’re in!" They raised their fists in unison, steely glints flashing in their eyes and hearts drumming in their ears.
