In Another World, Everyone Want to Kill Me!-Chapter 161: The Questions and the Answer
Upon hearing this, Yue Mingxuan quickly opened the paper.
Just one glance at it left him shocked and he stood up in astonishment.
Written on it were a simple system of two linear equations and an ordinary brain teaser.
How could Gongsun Xing have written such questions?
Could he also be someone who had traveled through time?
Concealing his inner excitement, Yue Mingxuan quickly sat down and began solving the problems.
Xie Lianhua had originally wanted to see Yue Mingxuan retreat in embarrassment after realizing the difficulty of the questions.
Instead, she had not expected him to begin answering them in a proper and confident manner. Hatred simmered in her heart, yet there was nothing she could do about it.
She could only pretend to stroll casually behind Yue Mingxuan to sneak a look at his answers.
However, upon seeing what he had written, she realized that she could not understand a single word of it.
After a short while, Yue Mingxuan finished answering the questions and handed the written paper to Xie Lianhua who is standing nearby.
"I’m finished."
He was well aware that Xie Lianhua had been peeking at his work all along, but he did not expose her.
He was confident that knowledge from a thousand years later would be far beyond the capacity of her mind to comprehend.
Xie Lianhua snorted coldly and unwillingly accepted the paper Yue Mingxuan handed over.
Without saying a single word, she turned around and walked out.
The short distance from the flower hall to the main hall felt unbearably long to her.
She walked very slowly, because the sheet of paper in her hand felt as heavy as a thousand catties, constantly dragging down her steps.
Although she could not understand what Yue Mingxuan had written, she knew very well that he was holding a winning hand.
There was not the slightest trace of panic in his eyes, aside from the brief shock when he first saw the questions, he had been radiant and brimming with confidence the entire time.
The road was short and soon Xie Lianhua arrived outside the doors of the main hall.
She hesitated again and again, yet could not bring herself to raise her hand to knock.
A voice in her heart kept whispering seductively: "Destroy this paper, destroy this paper, and Yue Mingxuan will never get another chance to steal the spotlight. Then Prince Rong’s eyes won’t be fixed on him alone anymore..."
Just as Xie Lianhua was about to turn around and leave, the door suddenly opened.
Gongsun Xing stood inside and looking at her with a smile that was not quite a smile. "Has that person finished answering?"
He had already sensed the presence of an outsider lingering outside the door for quite some time, breathing rapidly as if struggling with a major decision.
If he had not opened the door in time, who knew what sort of mischief Xie Lianhua might have pulled.
With a single glance, Gongsun Xing noticed the paper in Xie Lianhua’s hand and said coldly, "Hand it over."
Seeing that she had been discovered, Xie Lianhua had no choice but to pass the paper to Gongsun Xing.
Feeling the anger radiating from him, she hastily defended herself. "Miracle Doctor Gongsun, what the answerer wrote is a complete mess. I couldn’t understand it at all. I was afraid it would offend your eyes, so I planned to let the Imperial Consort review it first before bringing it to you."
Hearing her excuse, Gongsun Xing raised an eyebrow. "Oh? I don’t recall your mistress instructing you to do that. Or is it that whatever I, Gongsun Xing, wish to do must first receive permission from a mere princess like you?"
Gongsun Xing’s words frightened Xie Lianhua so badly that she immediately dropped to her knees.
These two men were guests so distinguished that even an imperial summons might not bring them; if she offended them, ten lives would not be enough to atone for it.
At that moment, a gentle and jade-like voice came from inside the room. "Gongsun Xing, look at you, haven’t you scared the young lady half to death?"
Gongsun Xing turned around and said, "Do you know she was just about to deceive me?"
The voice replied again, "Who in this world truly has the ability to deceive you? See, didn’t you discover it anyway?"
Hearing this, a pleased smile curved at the corners of Gongsun Xing’s mouth. "Since you’re pleading on her behalf, we’ll let it go this time. But if it happens again, then I’ll have to think that Beirong does not understand how to treat its guests and in that case, there would be no need for us to come here again."
The voice carried a hint of indulgence as it said, "As you wish."
Xie Lianhua who is still kneeling on the ground felt as though she had just walked once past the gates of hell as she listened to their exchange.
The cold sweat began to soaking her back.
Upon hearing that Gongsun Xing had spared her this time, she quickly stood up, gave a salute, and fled in disgrace.
Gongsun Xing then closed the door and walked back into the room.
Inside, a young man who is dressed in dark robes was reclining against a soft couch while gazing out the window at a cluster of emerald green bamboo.
His lips were pale, making it obvious that he had suffered serious injuries.
When the young man saw Gongsun Xing come back, he spoke. "Why bother getting angry with that sort of person? It only ruins our mood for enjoying the bamboo. Watching her kneeling there was simply an eyesore that dirtied this scenery."
Hearing this, Gongsun Xing smiled. "I thought the dignified Young Master Wang of Sword Forge Villa had suddenly changed his nature and learned to cherish and pity women. At first glance, that girl did look passable enough as a person, aside from the heavy scent of powder on her. She might even be usable as a rough servant... but it turns out you weren’t feeling compassion at all. You were just worried she’d spoil your enjoyment of the view."
