In Another World, Everyone Want to Kill Me!-Chapter 185: Leaping to Safety
A heavy silence flowed among the three of them.
Yue Mingxuan surveyed the surroundings and noticed several tall trees spaced at roughly equal distances.
A thought stirred in his mind, and he immediately formed a plan. "Xi Yu, you said that crossing alone with lightness skill wouldn’t be a problem, right?"
Xi Yu nodded. Yue Mingxuan continued, "Do you have rope and hidden weapons on you?"
Those were surely essentials for an assassin.
Sure enough, upon hearing Yue Mingxuan ask this, Xi Yu took out the hidden weapons and rope he carried with him.
Yue Mingxuan flipped through them, roughly estimated the distances between the large trees, and then said, "Xi Yu, even if you can’t carry us very far while flying, taking us one by one to the treetops shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
Xi Yu nodded again.
Yue Mingxuan then pointed at the nearest large tree and said, "Then take us to the top of that tree first."
Following Yue Mingxuan’s instructions, Xi Yu carried Yue Mingxuan and Shang Qinghua up to the treetops.
These trees were tall and sturdy, appearing to be over a hundred years old.
Even the branches at the very tops were as thick as a person’s thigh.
The dense network of branches interwove naturally, easily supporting the weight of all three of them.
Standing atop the treetops, their view was far more expansive than before.
Only now did they notice that the pavilions and towers were built over water, which churned with bubbles and released steam of an eerie pale green hue.
All three swallowed hard upon seeing it, unable to help but admire the cruel cunning of whoever had designed this mechanism.
Even the slightest contact with the green steam would surely render any medicine useless.
Yue Mingxuan measured the distance between the two large trees and asked with concern, "Um... Xi Yu, are you sure your martial skill is enough to get us across safely?"
One wrong step and it would be a direct ticket to the underworld. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Xi Yu squinting his eyes and looked toward the other tree. "Carrying someone else would be impossible, but I can make it across on my own."
Hearing this, Yue Mingxuan bent down and tied one end of the rope to the tree, then handing the other end to Xi Yu. "Take this end with you, and on the other side, find a branch that’s slightly lower but strong, and tie it there. Once it’s secured, give it a few shakes. Make sure it’s taut—tightening it won’t hurt."
Although Xi Yu did not know why Yue Mingxuan had him do this, he still followed instructions. Securing the rope around his waist, he gathered his internal energy and in a few leaps reached the tree Yue Mingxuan had indicated.
Before long, Yue Mingxuan saw the rope sway a few times. He tugged it hard and found it fairly secure. He tied a knot in his hand, recalled some basics of zip-lining, and then asked Shang Qinghua, "Do you want to go first, or should I?"
Shang Qinghua looked at the rope. "It’s so soft, crossing it will be difficult."
Yue Mingxuan replied, "We don’t need to walk. We’ll slide across."
Shang Qinghua scrutinized the rope in Yue Mingxuan’s hand. "Slide across on just this?"
Yue Mingxuan nodded, reinforcing the knot once more before passing it to Shang Qinghua.
He examined the rope knot in his hands, a hint of doubt lingering, yet he followed his lead and looped it onto his hand.
Seeing Shang Qinghua ready, Yue Mingxuan gestured for him to go first.
He closed his eyes, and with only the rush of wind in his ears, he was almost instantly at the other tree.
Xi Yu had been leaning against a tree resting, but he was caught off guard when Shang Qinghua suddenly slid over. He hurried forward, using a bit of skill to catch him. "How did you get over here?"
Shang Qinghua waved the rope knot in his hand. "I slid over."
Xi Yu glanced between the two trees and then at the rope in Shang Qinghua’s hand, smiling. "I didn’t expect it, Yue Mingxuan is truly a clever one."
Shang Qinghua nodded, silently agreeing with Xi Yu’s assessment.
As they spoke, Yue Mingxuan also zipped across the line.
Xi Yu, unprepared this time, didn’t catch him, and Yue Mingxuan plunged straight into the tree branches, startling a flock of birds.
After a while, he poked his head out from the foliage. "Xi Yu! Why didn’t you catch me?" he complained. "I hit the branches so hard my whole body feels like it’s in pieces!"
Xi Yu shrugged. "I didn’t react in time."
Although unintentional, seeing him in such a disheveled state gave him a bit of schadenfreude.
After all, Yue Mingxuan had always teased him when he was unwell.
Seeing the amusement in Xi Yu’s eyes, Yue Mingxuan scowled. "You didn’t ’not react in time.’ You did it on purpose."
Xi Yu glanced at Yue Mingxuan and a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
His expression radiated pure mischief, as if to say, "I did it on purpose, what are you going to do about it?"
After all, among the three of them, he was the only one with martial skills, and at least for now, he had absolute authority over the situation.
Yue Mingxuan could do nothing but glare at Xi Yu.
A gentleman’s revenge may be a decade in coming, but thid wretched Xi Yu, he would pay for this sooner or later.
"Cut the rope tied over there with your hidden weapon," he ordered.
Xi Yu obeyed and Yue Mingxuan’s quick reflexes allowed him to reel the rope back in safely.
Using the zipline method, the three of them quickly reached the tree closest to the pagoda. Looking at the tower now almost within reach, excitement flashed across their faces.
But moments later, Yue Mingxuan’s expression shifted to one of seriousness.
Among the Eight Gates, while Kai, Xiu, and Sheng were auspicious, passing Kai Gate did not mean Xiu Gate would consist of nothing but a single tower.
