In Another World, Everyone Want to Kill Me!-Chapter 260: Unseen Moves
Over the past few days, she had also heard that her imperial brother frequently visited the imperial study to confer privately with the Emperor, though she had no idea what it concerned.
Aside from the first day she arrived in Beirong and had her audience with His Majesty, she had remained at the inn and had not gone out at all.
She had never been particularly fond of going out anyway.
Thus, Princess Xueyin enjoyed several days of peace and quiet. But the same could not be said for Yue Mingxuan.
After recovering from his illness, he was always eager to go out for a stroll and somehow he kept running into the newly returned Second Prince.
He had no idea how he had managed to offend His Highness who always seemed displeased at the sight of him.
Even when Yue Mingxuan deliberately took detours, it still seemed to irritate the prince.
In the end, he was nearly provoked into losing his temper, he had almost come to blows that day, only to be stopped by Gongsun Xing who arrived just in time.
As someone from Silver Needle Sect, Gongsun Xing was by nature indifferent.
He treated everyone the same, except for Wang Jian and Yue Mingxuan.
It was therefore understandable that he paid little attention to Rong Zishen.
Being honored as a Miracle Doctor, when Rong Zishen watched him take Yue Mingxuan away, he truly said nothing.
It was not fear, he simply had no countermeasure.
"This Rong Zishen is simply too ruthless. The gloom he carries comes from all the killing he’s done on the battlefield, but he doesn’t have much of a head for schemes. If someone really wanted to plot against him, even Wang Jian could manage it. I just can’t be bothered to argue with him—it’s nothing," Yue Mingxuan said as he and Gongsun Xing walked back along the stream.
Gongsun Xing asked how he had run into Rong Zishen again.
It really was not Gongsun Xing overthinking things.
Over these past days, they had run into each other more than twenty times.
Whenever Yue Mingxuan stepped out, Rong Zishen seemed to be outside as well, like someone waiting by a tree stump for a rabbit to appear.
Gongsun Xing nodded and Yue Mingxuan continued, "Mother and son are cut from the same cloth. It’s better to stay cautious."
With a mother like Concubine Keshun, it was hardly surprising that her son turned out this way.
Perhaps it would be better not to go out for the next few days.
He needed to visit Flying Opera Group at night anyway, he might as well stay in his chambers during the day and sleep.
Surely Rong Zishen would not be waiting on the roof for him at night... that was Moonless Cicada’s job, after all.
Gongsun Xing nodded in acknowledgment.
After escorting Yue Mingxuan back, he did not go inside.
He stood at the doorway for a while before leaving.
Recently, he had begun organizing the materials from Silver Needle Sect and preparing to transport them into the palace, yet he suddenly found himself wondering what plans Yue Mingxuan might have for the future.
This palace was certainly not a place to stay for long.
For several days in a row, there was no sign of Shang Qinghua and Rong Zishen’s consort selection had come to an end.
In truth, selecting consorts was merely a matter of choosing a few women to keep in the household.
Rong Zishen was rarely home, he spending most of his time campaigning on the battlefield, so it would essentially be a household of women managing affairs.
Yue Mingxuan had originally wondered whether Xueyin, with her temperament, might be bullied, but Moonless Cicada said that although Princess Xueyin appeared gentle, if it truly came to a fight, she was not without the means to defend herself.
Besides, she was a princess, the natural authority of royalty was enough to intimidate most people.
Still, Yue Mingxuan could not imagine what trump card Shang Qinghua possessed that could persuade the Emperor to grant Xueyin the position of principal consort.
Being the principal consort meant she could potentially become the future empress, yet she was a foreign princess.
Yue Mingxuan clicked his tongue a few times while hugging a basin of grapes as he sat there lost in thought.
Since he could not go out these days, he called Moonless Cicada down to keep him company and chat.
"Why are you thinking about all this? Honestly, could you settle down at night? I can’t sleep during the day, and sleeping at night is miserable enough—you still insist on running around," Moonless Cicada complained as he grumbling a few sentences and earning a glare from Yue Mingxuan.
It was not that he wanted to go out at night.
Now he did not even dare visit the clinic during the day, fearing that Rong Zishen might come and cause trouble. If patients were hurt, that would be terrible.
That evening, just as he finished packing and was about to head out, Shang Qinghua suddenly came in.
He looked utterly exhausted; as soon as he entered, he poured himself tea and drank.
Yue Mingxuan was startled by his appearance and stood there blankly for a moment before coming back to his senses.
He tossed the things he was carrying onto the couch and walked over.
"Prince Shang, where have you been? Are you turning my place into a teahouse now?" he said, though even as he spoke, he called out for Sui He to come in, asking her to bring a fresh pot of tea and a few plates of pastries.
It was obvious he had not eaten.
Shang Qinghua closed his eyes and rubbed his brow. "Playing chess with His Majesty."
Yue Mingxuan raised an eyebrow. "Since when did a hostage prince have such a good relationship with the Emperor? Has His Majesty taken a fancy to you? I have to say, that face of yours really is quite handsome."
