Infernal Entity: Evolving With My Demonic System-Chapter 57: Upgrade
The Glass Dome was an old-world invention, originally designed as a containment box. Over the years, and throughout the course of history, when abilities and Mythic creatures became a norm in everyday life, the glass dome was refined to contain ability users.
To achieve a reinforced structure that even the strongest mutants couldn’t break, Mythic Shards were infused into the glass itself.
Sometimes, these domes were designed to contain prisoners, the worst of the worst mutants who sought only to use their abilities for selfish reasons. These domes were the ultimate prison, with no doors to open whatsoever. Other glass domes, like the ones at the Oval Academy, were designed for training purposes and, as such, had doors.
Kinsey walked back into the second-year building and slipped into the fighting room. Drax Tan, far too focused on the fight unfolding inside the dome, failed to notice when she reached the control terminal and pressed a button. Slowly, the dome doors began to open.
At that exact moment, Axel received a devastating blow from Luke. His body was sent flying and landed a few feet away from the dome entrance.
"Hey! Take this... I have a feeling you need it."
Axel’s eyes widened when he saw the Godrend sword in Kinsey’s hands. Different thoughts swirled through his mind as he tried to piece everything together.
"Looks like we’ve found our spy..." Aurora said inside his head.
"If she took it, that means she saw you. She saw you kill, evolve and wipe your friend’s memory. She knows far too much, Imp."
There was too much happening at once. One, Axel was in the middle of a brutal fight. Two, Kinsey had just interfered, openly disrupting the duel, and that alone could cause serious consequences. From the crowd of second-year students, someone shouted, "Isn’t that cheating?"
Others quickly joined in, arguing back and forth over whether halting the fight to use a weapon was allowed.
Drax stepped forward, ready to intervene, but Nile was already moving. She boldly stepped in front of him. There was no hint of fear in her eyes as she spoke.
"Weapons are allowed, aren’t they?" Nile said calmly.
"Yes, but—"
"You said it yourself. Rules are rules."
Using Drax’s own words against him was a smart move and that left him with no room to argue. With a scowl, Drax stepped back. "The fight shall continue then."
Back inside the dome, Axel grabbed the sword from Kinsey, but not without shooting her a deep, warning stare.
’If I make it out of this,’ Axel thought, ’we’re going to find out exactly what she knows.’
---
Axel now held the sword in his hand and felt it right away. It was heavier.
Not in a bad way. The weight felt settled, balanced, like the blade now belonged there. Power was felt through the grip, low and steady, and it crawled up his arm in a way the sword had never done before. Axel concluded, stared at the blade.
"What did she do to you...?" he muttered.
"It looks... upgraded." Aurora said.
Axel didn’t answer. He raised the sword slightly and activated his ID skill.
The world dimmed for a moment, and text formed in front of his eyes.
< [Mythic Weapon]
[Godrend Sword]
[Level: 5]
[Abilities:]
[Energy Burst]
[Fire-Based Infusion]
[Ruin Echo Blast]
[Choose skill to activate] >
Axel’s eyes widened.
The sword had been level two. He remembered that clearly. Now it was level five, and not just that, he could feel the energy from the three Mythic shards were fused into the blade. He knew those shards. He had wanted to use one of them before, but now all three were inside the sword. His mind ran the numbers on its own.
"...That should have cost 1,500 CNTs."
"Why the hell did she upgrade it with such amount?!"
"Focus!" Aurora said sharply. "You can ask later. Your fight is now."
The glass dome around them reflected the heat and the light. Luke glared at him from across. Even the ground beneath his feet was already scorched black.
< [Strength: 20]
[Speed: 20]
[Infernal Core: 85%] >
With Strength and Speed both at twenty, and an Infernal Core at 85 percent now, Axel kicked off the ground and vanished in a blur. The air cracked behind him as he closed the distance in an instant.
< [Hellrand Slash Activated] >
He slashed the Godrend Sword without slowing down.
< [Infernal Core: 80%] >
A massive Hellrand Slash tore forward, no longer just red-black energy, but thick and violent, packed tight with force, all thanks to the newly upgraded Godrend sword. The slash ripped through the dome and exploded forward at terrifying speed, racing straight for Luke.
Axel didn’t wait to see what would happen. He dashed hard to the side of the dome, boots scraping against glass, and twisted his body mid-run and released another Hellrand Slash, just as powerful, just as fast, coming from the opposite side.
Two attacks, from two angles. Axel knew one of them would land.
Luke’s eyes widened. For the first time, real shock crossed his face. He tried to move, fire flaring around his legs, but it was too late. The first slash slammed into his chest.
Fire met hell energy, and the impact burned straight through.
"Arghh!" Luke screamed as the force lifted him off the ground, his body smoking as he was thrown backward.
The second slash struck a heartbeat later, crashing into his side and smashing him across the dome floor like a broken doll.
Luke hit the ground hard and rolled, groaning as flames flickered weakly around him. Axel glanced at Luke’s status without stopping.
< [HP: 15] >
A small smile spread across Axel’s face.
"Time to see what this upgrade can really do."
He sprinted forward, the sword hummed louder with each step. As he moved, he pulled up the sword’s information again and activated a skill.
< [Ruin Echo Blast – Activated] >
Axel slammed the sword into the ground beside Luke.
Purple energy burst outward in a wide circle, carving glowing lines into the floor. The air shook and a second later, the energy detonated.
"Shit!" Luke panicked as the blast wrapped around him, lifting him off the ground again before slamming him down.
Axel didn’t stop. He dashed to the side, boots sliding, and drove the sword down again.
Another ring of purple light formed and another explosion followed.
The dome rattled as the blast tore into Luke, Axel rolled away just as flames lashed out blindly. He came up on one knee and raised the sword, activating another skill.
< [Energy Burst – Activated] >
A yellowish energy gathered at the blade’s tip, causing the sword to vibrate violently in his hands.
"Don’t shoot it yet!" Aurora said quickly. "Infuse the Hellrand with it."
Axel listened.
< [Hellrand Slash Activated] >
With a swing of the sword, the Energy Burst collided with the Hellrand Slash, feeding it, swelling it and turning it into something monstrous. Dark energy spiraled around the slash,
It smashed into Luke head-on, swallowing him in light and heat. When it passed, Luke hit the ground hard, his body burned black in places and smoke rose from his skin.
Axel checked his status again.
< [HP: 5] >
Luke lay there, shaking, chest rising and falling fast. His body was badly scorched.
What an irony. A Pyrokinetic being scorched...that was unheard of.
"End of the line." Axel said.
Just then, Luke’s eyes snapped open.
"Enough!" he screamed as flames exploded outward from his body.
It wasn’t a wave or a stream of fire, it was a blast.
The dome filled with fire in an instant, like a bomb had gone off. The heat swallowed everything and Axel was thrown backward,
His skin burned as the flames ripped into him.
