Infinite Adaptation: Starting As A Level 1 Slime-Chapter 45: Escape
The warm wet liquid felt strange on his skin.
He had killed them himself this time.
And he felt...
Nothing.
More dark-cloaked figures charged toward him from every direction.
His aura continued to explode outward, pressing them down before they could reach him.
Mana threads spread from his body toward the approaching enemies.
He would kill them all.
Every last one.
"Mister..."
A weak voice.
Barely a whisper.
He snapped out of his trance.
He looked down at Lina in his arms.
Her eyes were half-open. Her breathing was shallow.
This...
Due to releasing his overwhelming aura, the enemies he had been suppressing were freed.
They charged at him once more.
Mira rose to her feet and stood defensively before him.
The enemies closed in.
Weapons raised.
Ready to strike.
And just as they were about to reach them...
Blink.
Lunaris and Mira vanished into nothingness.
The dark-cloaked figures stumbled forward, their blades cutting through empty air.
They looked around in confusion.
...
Toward the town center.
A large man cut through the dark-cloaked enemies.
His massive sword cleaved through three of them in a single swing. Blood painted the stones at his feet.
"Damn cultists."
He spat on the ground.
Then he looked toward the gate.
His eyes narrowed.
Was that the newcomer they were talking about?
The one without a rank?
A smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
How interesting.
"How interesting indeed."
A feminine voice spoke from behind him.
The man turned around.
His expression soured instantly.
A woman stood there, elegant despite the chaos surrounding them. Her posture was refined, her gaze sharp and calculating.
"What are you doing here, you witch?"
She laughed softly, then cracked her whip.
"It’s only natural for a princess to protect her kingdom."
She tilted her head, her eyes drifting toward where the newcomers had vanished.
"That aside... I’m quite interested in what has picked the Adventurer’s Guild’s Guild Master’s interest."
The Guild Master scoffed.
...
Blink.
Lunaris appeared near the gate with Lina cradled in his arms. Mira materialized beside him a moment later.
She stumbled slightly, disoriented.
"My Lord, what..."
"Keep moving."
His voice left no room for argument.
They ran.
Bodies littered the streets. The metallic stench of blood hung heavy in the air.
Then Lunaris stopped.
His gaze fell downward.
A head lay on the cobblestones. Separated cleanly from its body.
The face was familiar.
This...
It was the guard from earlier. The one who had let them through the gate.
The world really is cruel.
Lina vanished from his arms, stored safely away in his storage.
He knelt down.
His hand reached out and gently closed the soldier’s eyes.
"Rest well."
He grabbed Mira’s hand.
Blink.
They vanished.
A split second later...
Crack!
A whip sliced through the air where they had just been standing.
The soldier’s head exploded into dust.
A woman walked forward, her heels clicking against the bloodstained stones. She coiled the whip back into her hand with ease.
He escaped.
She tilted her head, a faint smile playing on her lips.
How unfortunate.
Her eyes lingered on the empty space.
Well... I’m sure we’ll meet again.
She turned and glanced back toward the town center.
The Guild Master should be wrapping things up by now.
...
A while later.
Deep within the Beast Forest.
A massive silver wolf burst into a clearing.
Mira sat atop its back, gripping tightly.
The wolf slowed to a halt.
This should be far enough, right?
He had used Blink throughout their escape. They should have covered quite the distance by now.
Blink was a new subskill of his Spatial Dominion - one he had just unlocked.
After analyzing how the dark-cloaked attackers used shadows to appear and disappear out of nowhere, he had acquired a shadow movement skill that allowed travel through shadows. It was related to the dark element.
But he hadn’t stopped there.
He pushed his mind to its limit, dissecting how the entire thing worked.
He discovered that it used some form of spatial application he didn’t quite understand - performing something he called "displacement."
He tried applying that same concept onto himself. But without relying on shadows. Instead, he used three-dimensional space.
He figured that he could use his Spatial Dominion without filters to capture every single aspect that made up a person or object. Then he would displace this through space and map it onto a new position within range.
For this to work, he had to release his spatial filtering system entirely. This allowed him to capture every single atom and mana particle within the three-dimensional space - avoiding any errors in displacement.
After releasing the filter, he could easily cover fifty meters.
After pushing himself further, he reached a hundred.
His Thought Acceleration advanced to 2000x in the process.
With this new ability, he could displace himself and others through space and escape any situation.
Although this technique was exhausting - both in mana and mental strength - it was incredibly useful. Using it between bursts of physical running allowed them to cover a massive distance.
And after using it so many times during their escape, his proficiency increased greatly thanks to his Infinite Adaptation.
Now he could cover two hundred meters per Blink.
If he continued moving like this, it might not even take twelve hours to reach their destination.
But there was a reason he had to stop.
His form shifted.
The wolf dissolved, and Lunaris returned to his beastman appearance.
Mira landed gently on the forest floor beside him. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
She looked at him with concern.
"My Lord, is something wrong?"
"Yeah."
Lina appeared in his arms.
He walked toward a nearby tree and carefully placed her on a bed of soft leaves beneath its shade.
As they moved, he had been healing her with his Ultraspeed Regeneration.
But her condition didn’t seem to be getting any better.
He sighed.
He was also just now realizing that he had practically kidnapped a child.
He had just taken her with him in the heat of the moment.
He sighed again.
Well... were it not for this, she really would’ve died.
Though it seemed not much had changed in that regard.
