Chapter 200: Yveline’s past

Before he could finish, Yveline suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood.

"Yveline!?"

Rahu immediately rushed to her side, and the tyrannical domain vanished as Yveline’s body began to sway.

"N-No way? I-Is the curse is activating right now? Dammit!" Those were Yveline’s last words before she collapsed in Rahu’s arms.

Rahu’s frown deepened when he saw this. Stretching out his finger, he lightly touched Yveline’s forehead.

Her skin was turning paler and paler by the second; her breathing was faint, but she was still alive.

In an instant, his conscience spread throughout her body. Scanning every inch of her, but he was faced with an enormous obstruction.

"Get Lost!"

The forces of the Two Divine physiques broke apart in an instant, the moment Rahu’s voice echoed.

He lightly closed his eyes; in the next instant, both of their bodies fell lifelessly on the ground.

...

In a pitch-black world...Inside Yveline’s mind.

A tall figure walked in the dark world, his eyes wandered everywhere. This wasn’t darkness; this was something else.

But then, his eyes fell on a distant figure. Rahu’s eyes widened the moment he saw what it was.

Millions of small white figures circled like a storm.

It was utter chaos, "No way, are those...souls?"

Rahu observed that and stopped in his tracks when his eyes fell on a lone figure in the middle of it all.

It was Yveline...she was kneeling on the floor with her hands draped over her head. Her eyes were lifeless.

Taking a step forward, he disappeared.

Step Step Step

Yveline’s eyes fluttered when she heard those footsteps. Lifting her gaze, she saw a tall, handsome man standing in front of her, looking down at her.

"...Rahu?"

Her eyes were confused for a moment, but a second later. Clarity returned.

"What!? How are you here!!?" Yveline shouted, her voice filled with disbelief.

"Yveline...what’s the meaning of this?" Rahu asked, his voice was flat.

He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. The Yveline right now looked so...vulnerable.

Which...he didn’t like one bit.

There wasn’t the usual confidence she had in herself. The sky-high arrogance with which she carried herself.

Those disdainful eyes that didn’t put a single soul in her eyes, that haughty demeanor with which she used to talk to others.

He had understood the moment he saw her eyes, the space they were in. It was Yveline’s mind.

Thousands of souls roaring around like a storm were actually affecting her mind.

Yveline’s entire body trembled when she heard those words, but she didn’t reply to him.

"Those souls are probably the reason for your current state. Look into my eyes, Yveline...Do you need my help?"

It wasn’t difficult to guess from her previous words...she was cursed. This curse related to the souls was the most cruel and inhumane one.

"Those souls...are they the ones you killed in your lifetime?" Rahu once again asked, but still he didn’t get any reply.

Rahu didn’t mind, "Yveline...Our road ahead will be filled with such challenges. I do not know what kind of trouble you have gone through. But know this, your problems are my problems. And the thing I hate the most is lacking the courage to stand against your obstacles."

Yveline’s body trembled further when she heard those words; an intense glint shone in her otherwise lifeless eyes.

"...My clan"

She finally spoke, her eyes dropped on those souls circling high above. In Rahu’s eyes, they were merely circling and occasionally screeching.

But in Yveline’s eyes, it was entirely different.

"Yveline...why did you kill!?"

"Yveline, what did we do to you? How could you kill your own brother?"

"NOOO!! STEP BACK YOU MONSTER...HOW COULD YOU KILL YOUR OWN MOTHER!?"

"Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline...Yveline..."

"SHUUT UPP!! YOU BASTARDS!!"

Yveline let out a feral roar when she heard those words, but it was ineffective; the souls continued their words.

"Yveline... why did you kill me...your aunt!?"

"You butchered your own blood!"

"Traitor!"

"Murderer!"

"You chose power over family!"

"How did mother scream, Yveline? Do you remember?"

"Brother begged you...he fucking begged you!"

"Monster..."

"MONSTER!!"

The voices overlapped, distorted, multiplying and combining into an abomination.

"Yveline... we loved you—"

"You were supposed to protect us!"

"You were our pride!"

"And you slaughtered us!"

Her fingers dug into her temples.

"Stop..." she muttered under her breath.

But the souls only descended lower, their forms twisting grotesquely, faces warping between grief and hatred.

"Why didn’t you die with us?"

"Why are you still breathing?"

"You don’t deserve strength!"

"You don’t deserve THAT throne!"

"You don’t deserve...LOVE!"

The last words struck deeper than the rest.

"SHUT UP!!" she roared once again, her voice cracking and distorting the void itself.

But the souls laughed eerily...thousands and thousands of them together.

"Run again, Yveline."

"Kill again."

"Pretend you feel nothing."

"You will always be alone."

Their voices grew rhythmic.

"Alone... alone... alone... alone..."

Her eyes slowly began to turn pitch black, but before she could fall deeper, a calm voice echoed.

"I finally see the issue here...My dear wife."

The darkness began to back off the moment Yveline heard his words.

"Stand up, Yveline! Those are mere ghosts of the past! How dare you let a bunch of mere souls affect you!?"

Rahu’s voice thundered in her ears like a bolt; her eyes widened in an instant.

"You are Yveline. You will stand beside me as Empress when I claim my throne! Get up!" Rahu stepped forward; this time, his voice was no longer loud. It softened slightly.

"Look at me, Yveline."

"Rahu?" Yveline raised her head.

The storm of souls still howled, but they were all over-shadowed by his gentle expression.

"You think these voices are worthy of defining you?" he asked, his voice soft. But they rang in Yveline’s ears like a thunderclap.

"You are alive." His gaze suddenly sharpened.

"If you killed them, then there was a reason. If you choose power, then there is a necessity. The rest, I don’t give a flying fuck."

"...Reason?"

"Yes, Yveline, there was a reason. But suppose there wasn’t...SO WHAT THEN!? If you have the power, you take what you want! There is no permission needed and no apologies given! The weak were born to kneel beneath us and to be crushed by the strong. They exist for one purpose alone: to be trampled into dust beneath the boots of those strong enough to stand above them...For that, is the law of the worlds."
