Chapter 1456: Reed

Given the practical applications of such abilities, it was conceivable that they could be employed for combat purposes, crafting weapons and defensive constructs with formidable efficacy.

At first glance, it might have seemed that the Matter aspect held greater potential for practical utility and combat prowess, given its tangible and physically oriented abilities. However, appearances could be deceiving. While the Matter aspect boasted impressive capabilities in the realm of physical manipulation, the Spirit aspect offered a more esoteric and potentially versatile skill set, with the ability to tap into unseen forces and interact with entities beyond the confines of the material world.

"Where are the territories of those two located?" Maxime asked.

"You had to ask, huh?" Sakaki said and then sighed.

"What do you mean by that?" Sakaki asked, visibly confused.

"Both of them are in the opposite directions in the territory of the machine gods... even if we move in a straight line across their territory, it would take around two weeks to reach them," Sakaki explained. "And that is considering that we already have been pretty deep in their territory and Rain can teleport to the closest point. We might be found at some point, and the chances are high. If we use a safer route, then it will take at least a month."

Everyone went silent since the best possible targets were in difficult locations... still, targeting them was their best option in order to slowly build up their strength against the most troublesome enemies.

"Lidos is the closest one, but I still would want to face Ateros first in order to equip everyone with the best weapons possible," Rain said. "Still, after losing two of them, the chances of them interrupting the next fights if they take too long are quite high."

"We will work together to think of a solution to this," Sakaki said. "For now, you and the others can enjoy your time off and the current good news."

Rain was having a hard time keeping his eyes open, so he welcomed that break. In the end, he went home and slept for a couple of hours. When he got up, he heard that Sealyn went into labor hours ago, but the kid was having a hard time coming out... even though Sealyn was one of the strongest people around, the birth still was quite the ordeal for her and stayed like that for several more hours.

In the end, things ended well, and eventually, a kid was born. It was a boy... When the cries of the boy echoed in the house, people soon began to shout and celebrate. It was the first birth in quite a while, after all. Moreover, the kid was related to most of the important people in the group.

When Rain went to check things after a while with Sealyn and the kid, he soon found a bunch of people happily talking with each other... those were mainly his kids, his sisters, and the grandchildren of Esmeralda and Branden.

"Hmm... they are getting along well," Rain thought. "Was this what he had planned?"

A while ago, Branden asked Rain to let his kids work with his main group during those important missions... so maybe he assumed that something like that would happen. All of those guys were single, after all. They were pretty strong, too, and if they got involved with each other, they might become even stronger to protect each other in difficult times.

After a while, things were organized in Sealyn’s house, and people were allowed to enter and see the kid. While a bunch of people wanted to do that, Sealyn and the kid needed some peace and quiet, so only those close to them were called. Sealyn looked pretty tired when Rain entered the room with Seadrei and Seadir, she was holding the baby in her arms while he was enveloped in a soft piece of fabric. The baby was already sleeping, and he looked more than a little healthy... still, everyone frowned since the baby already had red hair... even though the mother and the father had blue air as the sea folk had.

"It seems that he is going to have the good looks from his grandfather," Rain said. "Congratulations, Sealyn. You too, Van."

"Thanks, Dad," Sealyn showed a tired smile.

"Perhaps you will calm down now," Rain said. "Can’t let the grandparents, if the kid raises him while you go out there, kick some butt."

"I am plenty calm already..." Sealyn said and then sighed. "His name is Reed. Thanks to his hair color, this should suit him. Before you ask, I asked Nigel some ideas of names from the past since I wanted something fresh and novel."

"I see... that is a good name," Rain said. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Rain approached and then poked a bit the chubby cheeks of his first grandson... he did all the time when his kids were sleeping in the past, and he missed that quite a bit.

"Are you two ready to be called granny?" Rain said.

"... What about you?" Terra asked.

"It will be a bit weird if he calls me granny," Rain shrugged. "Anyway, I am the coolest person around, so I will be a popular grandpa."

Everyone laughed a bit, but soon, they left the room and left those three alone. They deserved that time for themselves. Although Rain was unaware of it, the Trent people made a lot of food to make everyone party to the arrival of Reed and celebrate their recent victory, too. People filled their bellies got, dead drunk, and made a lot of noise. Rain stayed with them for a while, but soon, he sneaked out when people started to get drunk.

"It is time to get to work... I should try extra harder now since I have another person to protect that I would give my life for," Rain thought.

Reed was also another person who would increase his worries a fair bit, but the motivation that his grandson gave him far outweighed the worries.
