Chapter 1527: No true immortality

"I didn’t think that that being would be able to copy my abilities and pass it down to you that easily... but it seems that I was wrong. That isn’t surprising since you already have a small portion of the time aspect. Still, he shouldn’t be able to see things here..."

Lonos’ guess was wrong, but that also made Rain think a bit... how was the overseer able to see and study the basic skills of the aspects? Was it because the dragon god challenged them at some point? It was hard to imagine that he would be able to pull such a stunt and survive intact...

"Am I wrong? I see... it is a combination of skills that you have with some of the time aspects."

Rain clicked his tongue in annoyance... when he relaxed a bit, Lonos was able to see a future where he obtained the information that he wanted. That was how the future usually works... there are many paths and they keep splitting further in the future. Like a future where Lonos would learn the truth and another where he wouldn’t learn.

Eventually, they would split into futures where Lonos would be able to find a solution to that and another where he wouldn’t. About the future that, he wouldn’t learn, and the secret would split into two, where he would be attacked again in the same manner and fail to understand it once again or understand it. It is quite messy...

"It looks like you deserve to experience the next level of the time aspect... still, our job would have been a lot easier if we had access to that kind of information beforehand. We could have saved hundreds of thousands of years worth of experiments."

As Rain maintained his focus, his expression remained stoic and composed, his mind clear and his senses sharp. Yet, despite his efforts to remain unfazed, a slight twitch betrayed the frustration beneath the surface.

Lonos’s convoluted strategies and tactics got on Rain’s nerves, testing his patience and resolve at every turn. The overseer’s penchant for mind games and planning was tiresome, to say the least, and Rain found himself growing weary of the constant mental gymnastics required to outmaneuver his opponent.

However, amidst the frustration, Rain recognized that Lonos’s strategy, albeit infuriating, afforded him some valuable time to plan his own counterattacks. While the overseer danced around with his schemes, Rain seized the opportunity to strategize and prepare his next moves, ensuring that he remained one step ahead of his adversary.

Rain raised his guard and sharpened his senses to react to the next attack... all of a sudden, he got punched in the face only one time, and he clicked his tongue since he didn’t feel the attack... the feeling that it gave him was different than before as well.

"The second level, huh?" Rain thought. "This might be a pain."

All of sudden, again, Rain got punched two times in the face, and his nose broke. Rain took a deep breath to focus more, but he was starting to have the feeling that things wouldn’t be so simple...

Lonos attacked time and time again and it was useless... Rain’s focus never helped him. Even when he kept using Time Dilation and Light Speed before and after the attacks, he didn’t have the chance to react.

"What the hell is this attack... it is even faster than instant attack?" Rain furrowed his eyebrows.

Rain was able to see a small smile appearing in the corner of Lonos mouth. It seemed that he had his own way of having fun too, and beating up those that didn’t agree with him seemed like a good hobby for him.

While Rain was trying to analyze the attack without exposing his thoughts, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his stomach... Rain was sent flying in the opposite direction, but before he could fly for too long, he was kicked in the back too. He could tell that Lonos was kicking him now...

Rain raised his guard to defend his face since he could tell that the next attack would be there, but he still got hit... the attack passed through his arms somehow and then hit him...

When Rain stopped flying and hit the ground, he had a hard time getting up... he felt a sharp pain in his back and numbness in some parts. His spine had been broken...

Rain forced himself to get up while Healing his spine. He was able to heal himself thanks to Telekinesis... It has been a while since he suffered that kind of damage, after all.

"What do you think?"

"... You can smile all you want, but I will win the war in the end," Rain said. "Your own nature will be the cause of your downfall."

"As the machine god that controls the aspect of time, death doesn’t scare me. Death is unavoidable, even for the machine gods. My only fear is that I might not be able to reach my goals."

While the concept of immortality has long captured all species’ imagination, it is essential to recognize that even beings who achieve eternal life will ultimately face the inevitability of death. This truth stems from the fundamental laws of the universe, which dictate that all things, including stars, galaxies, and even the universe itself, are subject to entropy and eventual decay.

One of the most widely accepted theories in cosmology is the concept of the heat death, or entropy death, of the universe. According to this theory, as the universe continues to expand and dissipate its energy over time, it will eventually reach a state of maximum entropy, where all energy is evenly distributed and no further work can be done. This scenario, known as the "heat death," marks the end of all thermodynamic processes and the cessation of any meaningful activity in the universe.

For beings who have achieved immortality, the heat death of the universe poses a significant existential challenge.
